Race full of unexposed youngsters and the one who looks set to win this is three year old Alba Gu Brath from the Johnston yard. Been twice on both of his first two runs and only got done over last time out at Newcastle by a very smart looking newcomer, was pretty clear of the rest. Remains open to progress and on the figures so far has been progressive. Runs the straight mile again today but at Wolverhampton for the first time. Has a wide draw to overcome and on both previous starts has led from the off so be interesting to see how quickly and successfully he can get to the front from stall 9. Top jockey aboard in Callum Shepherd who has a 30% strikerate in the last fortnight and Alba Gu Brath is the stand out in this field who looks primed to get the job done today. Looks the winner.

Krissy has been in excellent form since November, with recent figures reading 121, and arrives here following a dominant front-running win at Wolverhampton. She runs over the same trip again today in what looks a weaker race on paper.

A key positive is her draw in stall 3, which should allow her to get out quickly and dictate matters from the front — a style that clearly suits her. Lauren Young takes off a valuable 5lb and has a strong record riding for this yard, further enhancing Krissy’s already attractive profile.

Off a mark of just 54, Krissy looks the standout on the card and is taken to make all once again.

Three year old Montu hasn’t quite shown the promise that was expected in first three starts with form of 797. Frankly, he is very nicely bred and should be much better than what we’ve seen so far and now runs in a very ordinary Class 6 handicap which is a weak entry point he can take advantage of. Goes up in trip to 1m1f which on pedigree is a big positive and has a plum draw in stall 1 too. Some horses do take a little to get going and often handicaps unlock the progress that’s been missing and Montu is taken to do just that. Improvement not a guarantee hence the odds, but is capable of much better and hopefully thats what we see. Dylan Hogan gets the ride, outside chance but definitely a chance.

Enpassant has found life tougher since a productive spell last season, but his current mark now looks far more workable. He’s only 3lb above his last winning rating and showed signs of a return to form last time out when fifth in a bunched finish here at Southwell.

He drops back into Class 6 company today, which immediately makes him more competitive, and the race itself looks weak. While the yard and jockey are currently short of winners, those runs don’t last forever, and Enpassant is more than capable of outrunning big odds.

At 16/1, he looks a cracking place shout and shouldn’t be ruled out of winning altogether.

Now a ten year old, Eye Of The Water has plenty of experience, including here and whilst he has been out of the winners enclosure since mid 2023, is on a very good mark and has been edging closer and closer of late with some decent runs. Wasn’t far away lto at Lingfield when fourth of ten and this is a particularly weak race that Eye Of The Water should be able to contest. Top jockey aboard in Cieren Fallon and he has a good record at this course. Does have a wide draw to overcome but that’s the only major question mark. Off this weight, in this level of race, likely to be involved and a big player.

On the face of it, form of 63990 since July isn’t overly inspiring for this seven year olds chances but he is very much on a bottomed out mark and on previous form is now definitely well handicapped. A revival looks very likely given the drop in grade here and this looks an easy enough race that could spark that revival for this boy. Not ran here in a while, so the change of track could be a positive and has usual jockey aboard in Mullen. Sneaks into a 0-50 rated race for the first time off a mark of 50 and at this level, he has to be taken seriously. Decent chance of a return to form today.

Six year old Enola Grey is one of those horses who just seems to thrive on the Tapeta. only won once on turf but has recorded six career wins on this surface, including lto here at Wolverhampton. Well clear that today and the 6lb rise is definitely not enough to rule her out in this. Has a plum draw at a course she enjoys with a decent jockey aboard in Kaiya Fraser. Yard not enjoying the hottest of spells but those runs always end and Enola Grey looks to have a fantastic chance in this race. Joint top weight with Mollie Foster but preference is for Enola Grey who has better course experience and coming fresh of a win here at this track last month and looks set to complete at Wolverhampton double.

Auntie Jo returned lto from a 9 month break and despite needing the run, looked a strong performer for a big part of the race. Should strip fitter for that run out and improve today at a course she has enjoyed in the past. Yet to win a race, but this is a race today where that can change. Isn’t a lot to like about a lot of these entrants in this and Auntie Jo drops back to preferred 5f and has a plum draw from stall 2. Represents a yard who is no stranger to Wolverhampton success and Mark Winn aboard for the ride. Big run very likely and wouldn’t be a surprise to see this four year old enter the winners enclosure today.

Down To The Kid is a Southwell specialist, with all six of his career wins coming at this track. He returned from a seven-month break last time out and ran a huge race when finishing a close second, suggesting he’ll strip much fitter for that run.

Drawn well in stall 3 and remaining on a workable mark, the main question is the drop back in trip, but he has plenty of early pace and should cope just fine. A big run is expected in a wide-open contest.

Magna

Magna showed dramatic improvement last time out when dropped to 6f for the first time, winning well after failing to score in 14 previous attempts over longer trips. That switch clearly unlocked improvement.

He remains unexposed over sprint distances and has the early speed to overcome a wider draw. Representing a solid yard and with Neil Callan again aboard, Magna looks capable of following up in a modest-looking race.

Ziggy’s Triton

Ziggy’s Triton is chasing a Southwell hat-trick after two impressive wins here, including defying a 10lb rise last time out when scoring again with something still left in hand.

He’s been hit with another 5lb rise, but the manner of his recent victories suggests there may still be more to come. Drawn well in stall 4 and with Mark Winn aboard, Ziggy’s Triton is taken to defy the handicap once again.

Queen Sansa

Queen Sansa remains a maiden after ten starts, but that has allowed her mark to drop to a very tempting level. She showed clear promise last time out when finishing a close second at Lingfield, suggesting a win is not far away.

This looks a weak race, the trip suits well, and she has previously shown ability at Southwell. Jack Dace’s 5lb claim is another positive, and Queen Sansa looks a major contender to finally get her head in front.
