Reason for Tip

This race looks ideal for seven year old Pure Carbon. Largely consistent bar a blip at Ludlow and form reads 21U12 since October last year. Flagged a little in the closing stages lto but that was 2f further than the usual trip and so the return to the straight 2 miles today looks a big positive. Has looked very strong in the last 6 months and looks more than capable of taking this race. The forecasted ground is ideal and he represents a yard who aren’t really putting a foot wrong at the moment. Derhams have a 33% strikerate in the last couple of weeks and Pure Carbon has the benefit of Brendan Powell aboard today who has a good record for this yard. Has only run once at Ascot for this yard in the last couple of years but won that race and has a good chance at maintaining that perfect record today at a course Brendan historically does very well at. Major player today and Pure Carbon looks a very likely winner.

⭐ NAP of the Day

Seven year old Pure Carbon looks to have been found a very good opportunity here. He has been largely consistent apart from a small blip at Ludlow and his form reads 21U12 since October, which is very solid for this level.

He looked to just tire late on over a longer trip last time out, so the return to 2 miles today looks a big positive. The ground conditions look ideal and the Harry Derham yard are in excellent form at the moment, operating at a 33% strike rate in recent weeks.

Brendan Powell takes the ride and has a very good record for this yard, and Pure Carbon has also won at Ascot previously, which is another big plus. Everything points towards a big run and he looks the one to beat.

Reason for Tip

Large field in the penultimate race at Doncaster today and with some bookies paying 5 places, there’s a good chance at finding a nice priced horse to place or even better. One who looks a bit of a dark horse is Woven from the Dods stable. Might be a ten year old but can still run a race and won at Ayr back in October three starts ago. Looks to still be rather well handicapped and whilst he was disappointing lto over C&D in November, that was a much warmer race and has a chance in this company today. Fine on this ground, goes well fresh and has a good record in this race with two seconds from four starts. Likes to sit off the pace and come late which can work here and certainly not written out of winning this. Sean Kirrane gets the ride. Woven is more than capable of outrunning these odds on his day and that doesn’t look out of the question today on return from a little break.

🎯 Dark Horse

A big field handicap where it could pay to look at something at a price, and Woven looks like a very interesting outsider.

The ten year old might be older than most in the field but still has the ability to run a big race and won at Ayr back in October. He has a very good record in this race with two seconds from four starts, which shows he handles the track and race conditions well.

He was disappointing last time over course and distance but that was a stronger race than this and he now returns from a short break. He tends to sit off the pace and come late, which can work very well in big field races like this.

At 14/1, Woven looks overpriced and could easily run into the places or better.

Reason for Tip

Reasonable flat performer when previously with the Beckett’s and has since shown similar strong performances for the Lawes over the obstacles. Remains very unexposed in this discipline and open to plenty of further progress. After three near misses over 2 miles with form of 222 now goes up in class and distance today. This is a warmer race and will require a little more but the increase in distance looks a positive on pedigree and will appreciate the conditions here. One of the more consistent types in the lineup and this race definitely doesn’t look out of the question. Kevin Brogan aboard and whilst he’s not statistically one of the strongest, does have a good record here at Ascot. Looks to have a good chance.

Reason for Tip

Interesting race here in the second on the card at Doncaster and with the Haggas trained horse being a very short price, there’s nice value across the rest of the field. One who looks to be a very solid contender is three year old Firewalker from the De Foy stable. Very nicely bred colt who cost a princely 360,000gns as a foal and holds a 2000 guineas entry. Went down a beaten fav on debut at Southwell but both first and third from that race have gone in since and so form looks solid. Firewalker on breeding will appreciate the additional furlong here today and has a cracking draw from stall 2. Yards youngster often come on a great deal for their debut run and so Firewalker is taken to do just that. David Egan aboard today. Firewalker was disappointing on debut and should come on leaps and bounds and looks a good prospect with a decent chance here.

Reason for Tip

Wide open race here in the 4.27 and eight year old St Denis’s Well looks to hold a good chance for last years renewal winning trainer. Has not really taken to fences thus far and struggled in the Porterstown at Fairyhouse. Was pulled up at Leopardstown two starts ago when there was a nostril problem but bounced back nicely at Navan when second over hurdles. Another chance is given to this boy over fences and is more than capable of staying this trip off this mark. Will appreciate the ground and this isn’t a strong race. St Denis’s Well does need to show a little more fluidity and consistency but represents a shrewd yard and has a top jockey aboard in Jack Kennedy. Has a chance.

Reason for Tip

This race is full of half decent horses, but most of them are quite unexposed at this trip and theres a decent chance a lot aren’t crying out for the extra distance and so heads turn to Lavelle trained Bethpage. Will absolutely stay the trip, will be fine on good ground and has contested much deeper races than this when last seen at the back end of last year. If on song and going well fresh will be tough contender today and has the benefit of a top jockey aboard in Sean Bowen. Yard are flying with a 43% fortnightly strikerate and that bodes well for the return of Bethpage. Big chance at a nice price.

St Denis’s Well returns to fences after a solid second over hurdles last time out. This race looks wide open and he has the stamina and class to be involved if putting in a clean round of jumping.

Bethpage returns from a break but has been running in stronger races than this and should appreciate the step up in trip. The Emma Lavelle yard are in excellent form and Sean Bowen is a top booking. Big chance if fit and ready.
