Reason for Tip

Five year old Newbrook Diamond made debut last month at Naas and put in a very credible run when finishing second. Looked to be a pretty smart hurdler and is open to plenty of progression, something we regularly see from the Elliot yards second time runners. Drops back in trip slightly here which seems a plus on pedigree. Bar the Mullins runners, doesn’t really seem like the rest are up to that much frankly and it’s likely between the three at the head of the market. Newbrook Diamond showed plenty of promise in that debut run and is taken to get the job done today under a positive ride from stable jockey Jack Kennedy.

A classy mare who has already won a Grade 2, Grade 3 and a Listed event last season. She makes her seasonal return today, but goes well fresh and handles a variety of ground conditions. Rated 149 over fences last year, she doesn’t need to run anywhere near that level to win this hurdle.

Representing the all-powerful Mullins yard and with Paul Townend in the saddle, she looks far superior to this field on paper and should simply have too much ability.
A strong, confident NAP.

Reason for Tip

Queen Of Astolat was a modest fifth of eight at Nottingham lto on debut. Looked very green that day and is likely to come on a lot for the experience and bred to be much better than that. Goes up in trip slightly here which looks favourable on pedigree and Queen Of Astolat has a good draw out of stall 3. She sat towards the rear lto which doesn’t often work as well at Nottingham as it can at a track like Chelmsford so if the same tactic is employed, should fare better. Is capable of a big run and whilst yard are running a bit cool at the moment, they do have a good course record with an 18% strikerate at the course. Top jockey booked in Kieren Shoemark who knows how to win at this track and there is positives to her chances today despite the odds. Likely improver and has an outside chance.

Chedlingtons Guest has shown modest form so far but remains lightly raced and shaped well on handicap debut last month at Huntingdon. He travelled strongly before fading late — likely stretched by the longer trip.

Today’s drop to 2m5f looks ideal, and the first-time cheekpieces could bring out improvement. Conditions suit, the yard tends to do well at Exeter, and this race isn’t overly strong.
At the price, he’s a lively outsider who can outrun his odds.

Five year old She’s Notjoeking has shown consistency and progression so far this term with form of 443 since returning. The third lto was positive and wasn’t miles away that day. Runs off the same mark here today but with Gregor Walkingshaw aboard with his 10lb apprentice allowance which puts this girl on a very tempting mark. Likely to take a big step forward today and both trip and ground are suited. Yard going very well at the moment over hurdles and likely to extend that run of form in this race too.

Gets the same conditions here today and looks a big player if solidifying that ability here again. Should progress from the debut run and has a top jockey aboard in Harry Cobden. Lots of unexposed or first time runners in the race but Knock Off Soxs looks open to lots of progression and is taken to go one better today and win.

Largely consistent six year old from the Murphy yard with form of 3F133. Wasn’t beaten by much on seasonal debut lto at Carlisle and should be fitter and more primed after that run. This is arguably a weaker race than that one lto and Jackpot D’ainay looks a major player. Yard in very fine form with their hurdlers and they have a good record here at Carlisle. One of the best in the business aboard in Sean Bowen who enjoys regular success on Murphy horses and this boy could be hard to beat today.

Almaty Star was raised to a mark of 86 following some successes earlier this year including here at this track. Struggled on the revised mark but showed promise when going down a short second lto off a mark of 78. Runs off that same mark again today which is 5lb below highest winning mark. Does generally run well at this track and so we can expect another big run today. Has a plum draw out of stall 2 and Jack Mitchell retains the ride which is a positive. Lots to like off this mark and another win is coming soon and that could be today.

Lightly raced and showed ability when 4th on debut at Uttoxeter last month despite greenness. Should come on plenty for the run, ground is fine, and Nico takes over today — a big positive. Weak race and improvement likely. Major chance.

2) Millstream Lady – 1.52 Punchestown (9/2)

In excellent form this season with figures of 1–3–1, including a Listed victory at Limerick lto. The trip today looks perfect and she’s unexposed on heavy ground. Yard and jockey both flying. Strong contender.

3) Good Friday Fairy – 2.36 Exeter (10/3)

A model of consistency with form of 24112. Returns from a break but has won fresh before and this is a very winnable race. Excellent course form and the ground is spot-on. Yard in superb form and Sam Twiston-Davies booked. Big player.

4) Best Night – 3.11 Exeter (9/1)

Very eye-catching debut winner for the Pipe yard, then third lto before undergoing wind surgery. Makes handicap debut today in a very fair race. Unexposed, improving, jumps well, and trip/ground look ideal. Generous price and a big threat.
