Reason for Tip

Has been consistent so far this year including a number of close calls including lto when second at Leicester behind a smart horse who’s since gone in again and so the form looks strong. Remains on a very workable mark and looks potentially a little too strong for this field. Will stay this trip fine and whilst good ground possibly isn’t a huge positive, will run a race on it and has performed well in the past on firmer surfaces. Has a good jockey aboard in Harry Cobden who has a 31% strikerate at this track and will know how to get the best from this eight year old. Fortunefavorsdbold went down a beaten favourite lto but i don’t think that lightening is going to strike twice, looks every bit the winner in waiting.

Champion Stakes day brings together some of the classiest horses of the season, and Ombudsman looks the one they all have to beat. The Gosden star has been a revelation this year, winning the Prince of Wales’s Stakes before finishing second in the Eclipse, and then dominating the Juddmonte International at York in emphatic fashion.

He’s still progressing, and despite a deep field, Ombudsman’s turn of foot and relentless cruising speed make him the clear standout. William Buick retains the ride, and the Gosden yard are in fine form. This is his chance to stamp his authority as the season’s leading middle-distance performer.

Seven year old Powerofjet regularly puts in strong performances including wins on this card last year and also as recently as November at Newcastle. Possibly struggled off new mark in the same grade and yard have upped grade today which puts him on a weight that looks reasonable for this race. Will be fine on both ground and over this distance and does have plenty of course experience on his side. Charlie Maggs and his apprentice claim retain the ride and whilst it would be foolish to big up this seven year old at this price, there is a few positives in an open race and he looks capable of producing a decent run today. Charlie Maggs is in good form and knows this horse. Outside chance for Powerofjet but a chance nonetheless. At this price, even a place is a nice return.

Camzara is a lightly-raced three-year-old who failed to fire last time at Ffos Las, but that was over an unsuitable trip, and she’s far better than the form suggests. Dropping back to her ideal distance and returning to the all-weather could unlock improvement, and the Boughey yard knows how to get them firing at Wolverhampton.

Pat Cosgrave takes the ride, and with a kinder draw this time around, she looks capable of outrunning her odds in a fairly open contest.

Field against the favourite here an Forever Louie at 13/2 looks potentially a nice price. Not been disgraced in last three starts with two seconds and an incompletion and the second of ten lto over C&D was a nicely run race. Low mileage and remains open to plenty of further progress and will be fine on the forecasted ground. Yard have opted for a first time tongue tie today and that may bring on further improvement too. Menzies yard has had a few winners in recent days and seems to be in good form which is a positive. Forever Louie does need improvement to beat the short priced fav but it isn’t impossibly by any means and has a chance here.

Picture of inconsistency for ten year old Iron Bridge with form of PP2P2 however that can largely be put down to unsuitable ground, doesn’t really act on soft these days and bounced right back to form lto on better ground. Gets good ground today which is heavily favourable for this old timer and has plenty of ability and staying power still. Will handle this trip on this ground and is on a tempting mark. Course debut at Exeter today but from a yard with a fantastic record here of just under 30% winrate in the last two years. Stable jockey Jonjo aboard who is always used to regular success at this track. Lots to like for Iron Bridge today and looks a big player.

Hello Judge might be a ten year old and he might be top weight in this field but it’s for good reason. Has been enjoying a good time of it the last 12 months including a series of wins at this course as well as Hexham. Won lto over 2 miles and goes back up in trip to 2m3f today. Should pose no concern, has won over this trip previously and has a stellar record at Carlisle of 6 wins from 10 runs over fences. Will relish the good ground and looks primed for another big run even off a career high mark. Yard have a 50% strikerate at this course which can’t be ignored and Danny McMenamin retains the ride which is only a positive. Great jockey and has a 64% winrate at this course on Hamilton trained horses. Hello Judge has a big chance here.

Ex-British horse who does most of his racing now in Ireland and has been progressive since joining this yard. Culminated in a close second here at Naas two starts ago before going on to win in very fine style at The Curragh lto. Not been seen since that win in November and so does need to go well fresh to take this but acts over this trip and on this ground and if resuming progress from last year will be a tough cookie in this. Yard ticking along nicely and a decent jockey aboard in Dec McDonagh. Towards the top of the ratings in this field and for good reason, smashed the field lto at The Curragh by over 7 lengths and has to be respected o
