Reason for Tip

Five year old Newbrook Diamond made debut last month at Naas and put in a very credible run when finishing second. Looked to be a pretty smart hurdler and is open to plenty of progression, something we regularly see from the Elliot yards second time runners. Drops back in trip slightly here which seems a plus on pedigree. Bar the Mullins runners, doesn’t really seem like the rest are up to that much frankly and it’s likely between the three at the head of the market. Newbrook Diamond showed plenty of promise in that debut run and is taken to get the job done today under a positive ride from stable jockey Jack Kennedy.

Three-year-old Highland Crystal made the perfect start to her career at Punchestown earlier this month, showing class, gears and a very professional attitude for such a young filly. She’s beautifully bred, related to strong winning lines, and this contest mirrors the setup where Elliott won this race two years ago with Wodhooh.

The field is full of unexposed types, but Highland Crystal shaped like a filly with significant progression to come, and improvement is expected. If she steps forward even slightly from her debut win, she is the one they all have to beat.

Reason for Tip

Queen Of Astolat was a modest fifth of eight at Nottingham lto on debut. Looked very green that day and is likely to come on a lot for the experience and bred to be much better than that. Goes up in trip slightly here which looks favourable on pedigree and Queen Of Astolat has a good draw out of stall 3. She sat towards the rear lto which doesn’t often work as well at Nottingham as it can at a track like Chelmsford so if the same tactic is employed, should fare better. Is capable of a big run and whilst yard are running a bit cool at the moment, they do have a good course record with an 18% strikerate at the course. Top jockey booked in Kieren Shoemark who knows how to win at this track and there is positives to her chances today despite the odds. Likely improver and has an outside chance.

A wide-open contest at Dundalk, but Velvet Reign looks a genuine each-way threat at a nice price. She caught the eye on debut at Navan in September when finishing third of 15, travelling strongly and looking like a filly with plenty more to offer.

She makes her AW debut tonight and although the stall position isn’t ideal, Velvet Reign broke well last time, so early positioning may not be an issue. Ben Coen is an excellent booking and it won’t take much improvement for this two-year-old to be right in the mix.

Five year old She’s Notjoeking has shown consistency and progression so far this term with form of 443 since returning. The third lto was positive and wasn’t miles away that day. Runs off the same mark here today but with Gregor Walkingshaw aboard with his 10lb apprentice allowance which puts this girl on a very tempting mark. Likely to take a big step forward today and both trip and ground are suited. Yard going very well at the moment over hurdles and likely to extend that run of form in this race too.

Gets the same conditions here today and looks a big player if solidifying that ability here again. Should progress from the debut run and has a top jockey aboard in Harry Cobden. Lots of unexposed or first time runners in the race but Knock Off Soxs looks open to lots of progression and is taken to go one better today and win.

Largely consistent six year old from the Murphy yard with form of 3F133. Wasn’t beaten by much on seasonal debut lto at Carlisle and should be fitter and more primed after that run. This is arguably a weaker race than that one lto and Jackpot D’ainay looks a major player. Yard in very fine form with their hurdlers and they have a good record here at Carlisle. One of the best in the business aboard in Sean Bowen who enjoys regular success on Murphy horses and this boy could be hard to beat today.

Almaty Star was raised to a mark of 86 following some successes earlier this year including here at this track. Struggled on the revised mark but showed promise when going down a short second lto off a mark of 78. Runs off that same mark again today which is 5lb below highest winning mark. Does generally run well at this track and so we can expect another big run today. Has a plum draw out of stall 2 and Jack Mitchell retains the ride which is a positive. Lots to like off this mark and another win is coming soon and that could be today.

Form reads 0022, with big improvement shown since slow early starts. Finished strongly despite missing the break last time. Same mark here, drop in class and Billy Loughnane aboard. Major player.

Unexposed Nicholls runner. Won on debut, returned from seasonal break with a promising third. Extra distance should suit. Ground ideal. Lorcan Williams takes the ride and a big run looks on the cards.

3️⃣ Drivers Pick – 1.05 Musselburgh – 8/1

Only one hurdles run so far — a close fifth despite not firing fully. Yard does well at this track, form from the race has worked out, and wind surgery should unlock improvement. Brian Hughes aboard signals intent.

4️⃣ Massimo Blue – 5.45 Southwell – 6/1

Strong for new yard with form 8124. Previous C&D winner and last run easily forgiven due to unsuitable shorter trip. Back to ideal distance today and Cieren Fallon booked. Big chance at this level.
