🏇 St Leger Festival 2025 – Day 3 Overview

Saturday is the pinnacle of the Doncaster St Leger Festival, headlined by the Group 1 St Leger Stakes — the final Classic of the British Flat season. Dating back to 1776, it remains the oldest Classic and one of the most prestigious staying contests in the world. Run over 1m 6f 115y, it provides the ultimate test of stamina, class, and determination for three-year-olds.

But the St Leger Stakes isn’t the only highlight. The supporting card is loaded with quality, including the Champagne Stakes (Group 2) for juveniles, the Portland Handicap, a heritage sprint handicap that is always a betting puzzle, and the Park Stakes (Group 2) over 7f, a stage for seasoned performers. Add in competitive handicaps and maidens, and Day 3 is one of the most anticipated days of the Flat season.

Shadow Of Light has been holding his own in strong company and now gets the chance to shine over a trip that plays to his strengths. He travels strongly, has a smart turn of foot, and the drop into this Group 2 assignment could bring the best out of him. A major player if reproducing recent form.

Stay True is a proven stayer and comes into the final Classic of the season with rock-solid credentials. He has the stamina to see out the extended trip at Doncaster and the class to compete at the top level. With his profile still improving, he looks a genuine contender for St Leger glory.

Selection: Nova Centauri
Nova Centauri shaped with real promise on debut, travelling kindly and showing a good attitude when asked. With that experience under her belt, she should step forward significantly here. The straight course at Doncaster will play to her strengths, and she looks ready to get off the mark.
