Club Brugge will be looking to bounce back with a much more positive result on home soil on Thursday evening when the Belgian hosts entertain French Ligue 1 side Monaco at the Jan Breydel Stadium after being handed a disappointing 1-0 defeat away at newcomers La Louvière in the domestic Pro League last weekend.

Nevertheless, despite that slip-up, Club Brugge had put together an impressive seven-game unbeaten run which consisted of no fewer than six wins, including aggregate victories over Salzburg (4-2) and Rangers (9-1) in the previous qualifying rounds of this season’s Champions League.

In addition, Brugge have lost just once in their last seven home ties in this competition, underlining the strength they tend to show at the Jan Breydel Stadium.

Monaco returned to action in Ligue 1 in similar fashion to before the international break, recording a 2-1 win away at Auxerre. Manager Adolf Hütter will be urging his side to replicate that level of performance in Belgium, knowing how important an opening result could be in this group.

The visitors have collected three wins from their first four Ligue 1 fixtures, including earlier victories over Le Havre and Strasbourg. On the European stage, Monaco have been a tough side to put away, suffering just two losses in their last eight Champions League away matches — four of which ended in draws.
