Reason for Tip

Three year old Highland Crystal made a winning start to her career earlier this month at Punchestown. Looks a very smart young filly who is beautifully bred and related to some impressive horses. Trainer won this race two years ago with Wodhooh and it would be no shock to see a repeat victory here with Highland Crystal. The field is full of unexposed youngsters but Highland Crystal was very impressive on debut and is open to lots of progression herself. Looks the winner.

Three-year-old Highland Crystal made the perfect start to her career at Punchestown earlier this month, showing class, gears and a very professional attitude for such a young filly. She’s beautifully bred, related to strong winning lines, and this contest mirrors the setup where Elliott won this race two years ago with Wodhooh.

The field is full of unexposed types, but Highland Crystal shaped like a filly with significant progression to come, and improvement is expected. If she steps forward even slightly from her debut win, she is the one they all have to beat.

Pretty wide open race here in the 6.30 at Dundalk and one that is potentially an outside threat is Velvet Reign from Yvonne Latta’s yard. Ran eye-catchingly on debut in September at Navan when finishing third of 15 and is taken to improve on that performance here today on AW debut. Doesn’t have the most ideal stall to contend with but Velvet Reign started well lto so may be quick out the gates anyway. Good jockey aboard in Ben Coen and it wouldn’t take a great deal of improvement for this two year old to be involved here and at a nice price.

A wide-open contest at Dundalk, but Velvet Reign looks a genuine each-way threat at a nice price. She caught the eye on debut at Navan in September when finishing third of 15, travelling strongly and looking like a filly with plenty more to offer.

She makes her AW debut tonight and although the stall position isn’t ideal, Velvet Reign broke well last time, so early positioning may not be an issue. Ben Coen is an excellent booking and it won’t take much improvement for this two-year-old to be right in the mix.

Station Bar was a little bit of a slow starter and form reads 0022. First two starts were not appealing at all, but has looked much better in subsequent two starts, including when second at handicap debut earlier this month. Missed the break that day and still ran on strongly so there’s lots to like from an unchanged mark. Top jockey aboard in Billy Loughnane who has a good record and Station Bar looks a major player here today back down in class.

Very unexposed five year old from the Nicholls yard who made a winning debut at Ffos Las back in December last year. Second start was on seasonal debut lto and finished third of ten. Ran well for much of that race and is likely going to strip fitter today for that run out. The slight extra distance is a positive and whilst it’s a course for this boy, no reason to believe he won’t take to Doncaster, particularly on ideal ground. Lorcan Williams gets the ride and Gillespie looks primed for a big run today.

Four year old Drivers Pick has only ran once over obstacles and that was lto at Carlisle when making the switch after not really finding much on the flat. Finished fifth of seven that day and whilst that’s not overly inspiring, it wasn’t a big distance from first to fifth. Likely improver for a yard that does well here and this isn’t an overly strong race. Top jockey aboard in Brian Hughes and expecting a close race here today, the form from the run at Carlisle has worked out well and Drivers Pick looks set for a big run today after wind surgery.

Massimo Blue only joined the Baker yard a few starts ago and has shown promise since. Form of 8124 for the new yard and won over C&D here at Southwell. Excuses can be made for lto, the trip was shorter than ideal and returns to preferred distance here today. This isn’t a very strong race and Massimo Blue should be competing off this mark quite nicely and a win doesn’t look off the cards. Good jockey aboard in Cieren Fallon and we should see a strong finish from this three year old today.

Only one hurdles run so far — a close fifth despite not firing fully. Yard does well at this track, form from the race has worked out, and wind surgery should unlock improvement. Brian Hughes aboard signals intent.

Strong for new yard with form 8124. Previous C&D winner and last run easily forgiven due to unsuitable shorter trip. Back to ideal distance today and Cieren Fallon booked. Big chance at this level.
