Sunday’s racing brings competitive action from Ffos Las, Sandown and Naas, with our analysts pinpointing a confident NAP of the Day, a big-priced Dark Horse, and a strong-value Lucky 15. All selections follow our form-first approach, targeting value, progression and track suitability.
Ffos Las – First race 12:10
Sandown – First race 12:35
Naas – First race 12:45

Bowel Cancer Screening Programme Saves Lives Maiden Hurdle (GBB Race) (Div 2) - Carlisle
Real Quartz
Reason for Tip
Odds of 4/5 at time of writing are a little shorter than we like to tip for a NAP but with only two cards available today, it’s hard to find a nicer priced one quite frankly. Real Quartz is the real deal on paper, won irish point debut with absolute ease and sold for £190k following that. Been in training with the Skelton’s and looks primed for a hurdle debut victory here today. Nicely bred five year old who is related to plenty of useful hurdlers and this isn’t a strong entry point here today in this Class 4 at Carlisle. Won the Irish point on yielding and soft ground today should be no issue. Yard is flying at the moment and Harry is aboard for the ride. Great record here at this track and quite frankly when you look through the card for this race, it’s easy to write off most of this field. Real Quartz should shine here today and win.
Our Boy Stan – 12.40 Ffos Las – 6/4
Trainer: Ben Pauling
Jockey: Ben Jones
Four-year-old Our Boy Stan stands out strongly in a field where all but two runners return from long layoffs. He set a high standard last season, finishing second in a Class 1 Listed race at Cheltenham before winning smartly at Kempton on his second start — beating Moneygarrow, who has since progressed into a very solid performer.
He brings the clearest form to the table, and although he also returns from a break, his raw ability puts him well ahead of this Class 4 field. The Pauling yard remains in excellent form, and Ben Jones rides Ffos Las extremely well.
✅ Verdict: Clear form pick in a weak race — major winning chance.

Fatty Renshaw Memorial Novices' Handicap Hurdle - Carlisle
Drop Kick
Reason for Tip
Four year old who hasn’t really shown a great deal of promise on first three starts with form of 677 but he remains very unexposed and goes beyond 2m for the time here today which on pedigree looks to be a favourable switch. Should handle the give in the ground and this is a very weak entry point on handicap debut. Wouldn’t take a great deal of improvement today to finish ahead of most of this field and with the favourable increased distance, Drop Kick could well outrun his odds. Whilst neither trainer or jockey are known to be the most successful, they do have a shared 15% strikerate when combining here at Carlisle. If a few things click with a little improvement, Drop Kick could be a surprise winner here today at nice odds.
Pachacuti – 1.10 Ffos Las – 10/1
Trainer: David Pipe
Jockey: Jack Tudor
Pachacuti arrives with an inconsistent profile but is extremely well handicapped now, running off 105, just 6lb below his highest winning mark. He showed signs of life with a strong second at Newbury three starts ago and should come on for his seasonal reappearance at Newton Abbot.
Ground and trip both suit well, and he has previously performed with credit at Ffos Las. In a race where most runners have question marks, Pachacuti’s mark and conditions make him attractively priced.
✅ Verdict: If things drop right, he can bounce back at big odds — lively each-way player.
JCB Handicap Hurdle - Kempton
Sun Joy
Reason for Tip
This six year old has won twice in 15 hurdle starts and prior to lto where returning to winning ways, had ran mostly well even in defeat. Has gone up 6lb for the win last month but is still somewhat well handicapped on previous form and is still below highest winning mark. Retains potential and this distance of 2m5f seems to be there or thereabouts the ideal trip for Sun Joy. Represents a top yard who are firing on all cylinders currently and apprentice Callum Pritchard retains the ride from lto. Capable of taking this.
Christmas Jumper Day 14th December Handicap Hurdle - Carlisle
Russian Virtue
Reason for Tip
Versatile 8 year old who returns to hurdling here today after 4 runs on the flat. No stranger to winning and has won 6 times over hurdles previously with the last two coming here at this track, over this distance. Is somewhat at the top end of his ideal mark I would say and so there is a question mark over if this mark is a little too high but he is a talented old timer who still has the ability to compete and win races and the return here looks favourable. This is quite an open race and it would be no surprise to see the experienced Russian Virtue add another Carlisle win to the form book.
JCB Hydradig Conditional Jockeys' Novices' Handicap Hurdle - Kempton
Final Straw
Reason for Tip
464 is the form from first three starts and hasn’t really progressed quite as you’d expect. However saying that, Final Straw is dropped in Class here for handicap debut in a rather weak contest and represents a top stable. Upped in trip to 3miles and on pedigree that’s fine and may actually see a better run from this five year old over the longer trip as the engine seems to be there. Decent booking in Freddie Gordon who is a talented and up and coming apprentice who boasts an exceptional 33% strikerate in the last 60 days. When Freddie and Nicky have combined here at Kempton, they’ve won half the races, albeit it’s a small sample pool, but the combined form is there. Final Straw is taken to win this on handicap debut today.
Budds & Weatherbys Horseracing Memorabilia Mares' Handicap Chase (GBB Race) - Kempton
Shantwopointfive
Reason for Tip
Talented hurdler with form of 12241 and blew the field apart when winning in fashionable style lto at Cartmel in May. Obviously has the break to contend with here and it’s first time chasing but from what we’ve seen previously, can go well fresh, should take well to chasing and is a talented horse with plenty of ability and versatility. The one at the head of the market is the obvious threat, but Shantwopointfive if taking to chasing on first attempt could prove a lot to handle today and the chance is taken on that being the case. She is from a shrewd and successful yard and has James Bowen aboard for the ride, lots to like and every chance at making a winning start to chase career.
Courtland – 3.15 Sandown – 9/2
Consistent veteran with form 3232U, arrives fit after three runs already this season, and can be forgiven for unseating in a Grade 3 at Ascot. Strong at 3m, handles the ground, and the Bowen yard hold a 25% chase strike-rate.
Bataillon – 2.15 Ffos Las – 4/1
Winless over hurdles but showed ability last season, finishing runner-up twice off higher marks. Long break to overcome but the yard has a 25% strike-rate with 60+ day returners. If fit, he’s a major contender in a weak race.
Inthepocket – 3.02 Naas – 7/4
High-class operator with Grade 1 form. Beaten by Ile Atlantique last time but the weights now favour him heavily, making a reversal likely. Yard in form, Walsh rides, ground suits. Should win.
Connies Hill – 3.50 Sandown – 4/1
Lightly raced improver who won well on his second start and has strong collateral form. Nico De Boinville is a huge plus around Sandown, and further improvement is expected.
