Here we go in many eyes (including ours) the best major of the year and this one promises to be an absolute classic. The Open Championship comes from Royal Portrush in Northern Ireland this year. This is the ONLY course in either Northern or Southern Ireland to have hosted this event. Designed in 1932 by Harry Colt this is a par 71 course playing 7300 in yardage. The holes to look out for are the par 4 5th hole named “White Rocks” and also the very tricky par 3 16th hole named “calamity corner” Home favourite Rory McIlroy will be looking to improve on last week’s 2nd place finish at the Scottish Open and claim his second major of the season as will 2019 winner here and fellow Northern Irishman Shane Lowry. The links test will be sure to catch most of the field out and it could well be an outsider that wins this year’s claret jug. The field includes all of the top golfers from across all three tours and it is must watch sport this week and is exciting to see how this will go.

11/1

Reason for Tip

Finishing no lower than 14th in the previous 3 majors this year the Spaniard is going to be in the mix this week. He also finished tied 11th here in 2019 and will surely have good vibes and a positive mindset on his return here this year. Finishing 2nd at last week’s LIV event in Valderrama after posting a final round 65 the big man is in form and one to watch for sure.

Rory Mcilroy

7/1

Reason for Tip

Second at last week’s Scottish Open he looks to have rediscovered his mojo after a bit of a wobble since completing the grand slam at Augusta at the beginning of the season. Returning home is sure to be another boost and with a huge support he will fancy his chances of adding to his solitary Open win in 2014.

Justin Rose

Win & EW - 10 Places
35/1

Reason for Tip

Finishing outright 6th last week at Genesis Justin is a very tempting price at 50s to be at least amongst the places. Coupled with his runner up spot to Rory at The Masters and also being the runner up last year in this competition at Royal Troon it would be foolish to look past a Rose place here.

Victor Hovland

Win & EW - 10 Places
22/1

Reason for Tip

Finally breaking a winless streak stretching back 18 months when winning at the Valspar Championship and a 3rd placed finish at the US Open means Victor demands eyes on him. One of the best iron players on the tour that will be a massive weapon around this course this week. Top 15 finishes in 3 of his 4 outings at this major means hes a good bet for an each way place.

Key Stats to Consider at The Open

Success at The Open often comes down to more than just raw power. Links golf demands a well-rounded skill set, and recent winners tend to excel in several key areas. Strokes Gained: Approach is typically a strong predictor, with iron play crucial when navigating firm, fast greens. Scrambling and around-the-green game are equally important, as conditions can be unpredictable and saving par from tight lies or pot bunkers often separates contenders from the pack. Open experience is a significant plus, with many winners showing previous form in the event or on coastal tracks. The ability to handle windy conditions, often measured by performance in events like the Scottish Open or Irish Open, also plays a big role. Look for players with temperament and touch, not just big names.
