Reason for Tip

Konfusion is a fine horse in even finer form and he has looked better and better every single run recently. Seasonal debut here at Wetherby was a competent victory, unusual error on second start this season when unseating the rider but bounced right back in the Rehearsal at Newcastle lto when romping home by 15 lengths. Handicapper trying his best to stop this seven year old with a 10lb rise but Konfusion seems capable of laughing that rise away quite frankly. Has good course form, yard are red hot at the moment and Callum Bewley retains the ride. When jockey and yard combine, they do so with a 33% strikerate. Konfusion is taken to defy the rise and win this.

Neon Moon is one of the most reliable handicappers in this grade. A strong 5th on seasonal return in a Grade 3 at Ascot was followed by a Class 2 win last time out. He’s only been nudged up 3lb and now drops into Class 3 company. Trip ideal, versatile ground, and today’s opposition lacking depth. Everything points to another big run, and he looks the likeliest winner on the card.

Reason for Tip

King George VI Chase time at Kempton, highlight of the Christmas racing calendar and always a fascinating affair. Chance is taken on Il Est Francais here who once upon time looked a bit of a world beater in the making however has struggled at times in the last couple of years. However, retains plenty of ability and some of his best runs have been here at Kempton, including 2nd in this race last year behind Banbridge and that experience will stand him in very good stead today. That run last year in this was following a poor run and we’ve seen the same again upon seasonal return this year so we know he can bounce back and the return to this track may just ignite that spark again. Obviously up against some big names as always in this race but as we’ve seen before, anything can happen. Top jockey aboard in Harry Cobden and if Il Est Francais can produce close to his best at a course he loves, he may just throw a spanner in the works for the principals today. 16/1 is arguably generous and at that price he is worth an EW. Fascinating race ahead of us, hopefully this boy can return us some boxing day money.

Bravo Zulu was electric earlier in the year, rattling off six AW wins along with turf success. He’s been off since August, but the yard do well with horses returning from breaks, and he’s back on his favoured surface. The key stat: Rossa Ryan is 5 wins from 5 rides on Bravo Zulu. That partnership alone makes him very interesting at double-figure odds. If he’s fit enough, he’s a huge threat.

Very average hurdler from the England yard who made a positive return on seasonal debut when fourth at Southwell before going on chasing debut lto and winning in good style. Does have a 9lb rise to contend with but that debut was off such a low mark and this seven year old look so comfortable over fences that it’s likely not enough to stop a double. Another relatively weak race here today and the yard are in exceptional form at the moment. Looks a likely winner again today under Bewley.

Six year old Wendigo has plenty of ability and has shown that on a number of occasions, especially when runner up behing the New Lion in the Challow and also when running well in the Albert Bartlett. Was primed lto in a Grade 2 at Newbury when scoring nicely and looks a major threat today. Back over 3miles today which is fine trip wise, has the engine and finishing prowess to cope and will appreciate the forecast ground. Represents a strong yard with a top jockey aboard in Gavin Sheehan and one thing Wendigo will generally provide is his all, plucky type who won’t give in and is capable of taking this race today.

Three year old filly who has been better than ever in the latter part of this year with four wins (one disqualification) in last four starts. Only up 3lb for the latest win and that doesn’t look enough to curtail this youngsters progress. Has good course form, most of her wins have been here and gets her usual 5f trip. Plum draw today out of stall two and she is likely to be sat a hair off the pace ready to strike in the closing strides. Yard in great form and Hint Of Humour would not be a Boxing Day surprise winner, big chance again.

Talented hurdler with four wins in that discipline and he has taken very smartly to the fences in his two starts over them so far. Fifth on chasing debut at Cheltenham before running on a gamely winner lto at Exeter. By far and away the most unexposed chaser in the lineup today and open to much more progression than most of these, despite his age. Mark is still very reasonable and whilst this is a warmer race than previous chase starts, is taken to get the job done again here. Trip is ideal and he will run on any ground really. Major player and a likely winner under a David Bass ride.

Upepo’s recent form figures of 70480 don’t jump off the page, but the key angle here is the handicap mark. He is now 8lb below his Wolverhampton winning mark, making him extremely well treated. The return to a favourable trip is a plus based on both previous performances and pedigree. A good draw, a weak race, and 5lb taken off by Myla Coppinsall add to the case. A big run looks very close—today could be the day.

A fascinating hurdling debut for a progressive flat performer. Northwest Passage arrives after a strong run of form, including a Salisbury win and a close second at Newbury in Class 3 company. The step up to 2m over hurdles should be well within reach, and the Teal yard can ready one first time over obstacles. Add in top-class jockey Harry Cobden, and he looks a major player.

Followcato made his chase debut last month, unseating first time before running an encouraging 5th at Lingfield over 2m6f. He should strip fitter now and benefit from both a drop back in trip and give in the ground. Represents the in-form Ben Pauling yard and has a capable rider in Kielan Woods. Looks ready to take a nice step forward here.

Heathcliff has taken a real liking to Kempton, posting personal-best efforts on consecutive runs at this course. The return here is a huge positive. The drop back to 6f looks ideal, and a suitable draw should help him settle into a handy position. With Billy Loughnane aboard—who rides Kempton brilliantly—this looks a slightly weaker race, and Heathcliff has every chance of getting the job done.
