Small field handicap here in the third race on the Lingfield card and the obvious answer to this race is Beaumadier. After some hit and miss performances early last month bounced right back lto at Wolverhampton when winning comfortably by over 3 lengths. Returns to Lingfield today over the same trip and this is a course this six year old has some good performances at. Had an awful draw lto at Wolverhampton but gets a cracker today from stall 1. 3lb well in under a penalty and looks set to complete a double. Billy Loughnane is aboard today which is a positive jockey change and Billy is riding well at the moment with a strikerate north of 20% in the last 30 days. If Beaumadier can string the strong runs together here, should run out the winner in this. Great chance.

Silkies Sib has been a model of consistency in recent months, with form figures of 33221, and comes here off the back of a deserved success at Chelmsford last time out. He won that race by around half a length and, while a 5lb penalty has been applied, he still looks very well treated in this 0–55 contest off an adjusted mark of 60.

This is not a strong race on paper, with several rivals lacking any meaningful recent form. Silkies Sib has a good draw in stall 3, proven course form at Wolverhampton, and finished second here two starts ago. The switch to Mason Paetel looks a positive, with the jockey riding extremely well this season.

James Owen’s yard continue to operate at a solid strike-rate and the Owen–Paetel combination has produced winners before. Even under a penalty, Silkies Sib looks the standout selection and should take plenty of beating.

Reason for Tip

Out of sorts for old yard last year and changed yards at the back end of last year and now resides with the Candlish’s. Solid fourth on debut for the new yard in January but failed to back that up lto at here at this track when a remote seventh. Did race far too freely that day and under a tighter ride is likely to run a better race. Drawn wide but does a lot of racing from the rear so won’t mind slotting in towards the back here. Jockey change today to Lewis Edmunds is no negative and Lewis is riding pretty well at the moment. Drops back into 0-75 company today and can’t be completely ruled off at this level off this mark and so a chance is taken on this five year old bouncing back and into the places at the least.

Lisleigh Lad

Lisleigh Lad is an inconsistent type, with form figures of P1P37, but there are enough positives to suggest he could outrun his odds here. He won nicely at Cork last April and, after a long break, returned with a respectable third at Thurles in December before a lesser effort last time out.

Those two runs should have brought him forward nicely and this course debut at Leopardstown could spark improvement, particularly as he remains relatively unexposed going left-handed. This race won’t take a great deal of winning and his mark has dropped further to 115, which looks workable if he runs to his best.

With solid chase records for both yard and jockey, Lisleigh Lad looks capable of putting in a big run at a big price and is worth considering as an outsider.

Six year old Crossgales King has yet to win over hurdles and is 0-5 in this sphere but has been progressive with form of 75442 which culminated in a very strong second placed finish lto over C&D behind a smart rival. This is a weaker race here today and will be fine on the firmer ground today. Good record at this course and looks primed for another big run today. Ciaran O’Shea gets the ride and whilst he’s not riding lots of races at the moment, his strikerate is very high at the moment and he’s won here at this track before. Crossgales King looks likely to be heavily involved here.

Largely consistent eight year old who had a rare bad run lto at Fakenham when pulled up. Form prior to that was 3126 and looks to be on a very workable mark. Runs a trip that’s well within range today on ground that’s well suited and looks the type to put in a bounce back performance today. This race looks wide open for the taking with most of the horses in here struggling to find consistency recently. Safe Destination represents an experienced yard with a good jockey aboard in Sam Twiston-Davies. Would be no surprise to this horse bounce back today and if doing say has more than enough to take this race by the scruff of the neck and run out the winner.

Had been hovering around the placed at the back end of last year and then starting new year in fine style when getting up to win a Class 3 here at Lingfield in January. Couple of sub par performances last twice but excuses can be made for these runs as they were a wide draw that didn’t suit and then a bad start and hampered running and so The Thames Boatman looks a big danger still only 2lb higher than his win from a plum draw out of stall 1 today. This race is definitely not out of reach dropping back to Class 4 company at a course he has very good history at and the booking of Billy Loughnane only bolsters chances. Looks a very likely winner.

Reason for Tip

Nikovo has plenty of ability despite form being a case of knocking on the door of late. Third or second in last three starts and the third lto was not far away in a bunched finish and runs off the same mark today in the race he won last year. Ok draw in stall 6 and will be fine, pretty versatile to race positioning and as long as Jason Hart can get him well positioned at the break, should run on well as he has been. Couple ahead of this boy in the market but Nikovo knows this course very well and so does jockey Jason Hart who is back aboard. Jason is riding very well at the moment and Nikovo looks very well placed for a big challenge today.

Leader Wing doesn’t win often but is very well treated on his current mark and regularly goes close in similar company. He enters a very weak race here and looks to have a strong chance of being heavily involved.

He was unlucky two starts ago at Musselburgh when denied late on into second. Last time out, a change of headgear didn’t bring improvement, but that was a stronger race than this and can be forgiven. Dropping back to 2m4f today looks ideal and the forecast good to soft ground should suit.

A clean jumper with an okay booking in Jamie Hamilton, Leader Wing should be bang there and would be a surprise if he finished outside the places.

Pookie Holler

3.25 Leopardstown – 3/1
Trainer: Henry de Bromhead
Jockey: Darragh O’Keeffe

Pookie Holler has shown steady progression across his four starts, with form figures of 8422, and wasn’t far away on handicap debut at Thurles last time out. He steps up slightly in trip to 3 miles, which looks a positive given his improvement as distances have increased.

He jumped well last time and should enjoy a clean round of jumping again here. Ground conditions are unlikely to pose any problems and this Leopardstown debut looks a good opportunity.

From a shrewd yard and with Darragh O’Keeffe booked, Pookie Holler looks a major player in this contest.

Dolly Drama

4.35 Newcastle – 10/3

Dolly Drama is an unexposed five-year-old who made her debut last time out at Wetherby, finishing a solid third. The front two from that race have both won since, giving the form a strong look.

She returns after a three-month break, but that shouldn’t be an issue for a young horse from a yard that does well with runners returning from a layoff. Trip and ground look ideal once again and the McCain yard have a strong bumper record at Newcastle.

With Charlie Maggs aboard in what looks an open race, Dolly Drama is more than capable of winning.

Dayman

7.30 Wolverhampton – 9/2

Dayman hasn’t won for a while, but signs suggest he’s ready to strike. He returned from a long absence in January and clearly needed the run when seventh. Last time out, he ran a big race to finish third, and the form has worked out exceptionally well, with the first, second and fourth all winning since.

This looks a perfect opportunity in a weak race, with a decent draw in stall 6 and Billy Loughnane taking the ride. Dayman is well treated on past form and Billy is no stranger to Wolverhampton success.

A big chance for Dayman to finally get his head back in front.
