Reason for Tip

Five year old Rip Wheeler didn’t manage to win over the hurdles in five attempts but did run mostly creditably. Yard switched Rip Wheeler to chasing on seasonal debut and made a fine start over fences winning nicely in the end lto. Only raised 3lb for that and given there was a long break before that start lto likely to come on further than that and be more tuned up today so is taken to negate that small rise. Runs over same trip here today and should prefer the ground. Rip Wheeler is top weight, but not without reason, looks the stand out horse in this race and if running close to or better than lto should win this.

Five-year-old Rip Wheeler didn’t quite get his head in front over hurdles, but he ran consistently and always shaped like a horse that would thrive over fences. Connections made the switch to chasing on seasonal return and he won impressively on debut, travelling smartly and finding plenty late on.

He’s only been hit with a 3lb rise, but given he had a long break before that last run, he should come forward significantly again today. Same trip, better ground, and he looks very well placed to follow up.

Top weight, yes — but he’s top weight for a reason. If running anywhere near last time’s level, Rip Wheeler should win this.

Six year old Jukebox Annie has struggled in handicaps and form since this time last year is 49586. However, ran well for quite a long way lto off a mark of 85 and runs off the same mark again here today. Jack Stenhouse and his 7lb apprentice allowance retain the ride and I wouldn’t be so quick to write off Jukebox Annie now returning to Taunton. The sixth at Wincanton lto was first run since May and so can be forgiven for needing a run and should strip fitter here today. Has very often ran well at this track including winning here. Whilst the win looks a tough assignment, the race is paying 4 places and a place at 18/1 doesn’t seem out the question at all. Has more of a chance than the odds I would say and we may see a resurgence now fitter at a track this six year old likes.

Form figures look rough (49586), but the context matters. Last time out she shaped well for a long way off 85, which she runs off again today. That was her first run since May, so she’s entitled to improve fitness-wise.

She now returns to Taunton, a track she has run well at in the past — including winning here. Add in the valuable 7lb apprentice claim, and suddenly 18/1 looks far too big.

With four places paid, a place feels firmly on the cards, and a resurgence wouldn’t shock at all.

Eight year old Merry Monty might be experienced, but he’s still very unexposed over fences with just three chase starts in his career with form of 213. Made seasonal return lto here at Uttoxeter last month and despite being 10lb higher after winning at Taunton, ran very well for a long way in that race. Likely to be tuned up a little more after that run and looks a dangerous player even off this mark. This is a track he enjoys, the trip is ideal and the ground is favourable. Freddie Gordon is riding brilliantly at the moment and there’s a lot to like about Merry Monty today and I don’t think we’ve seen his chase ceiling yet.

Triple Force bids for a hattrick of wins here today. Has won nicely on last two starts bringing yearly total wins to four. Won convincingly again lto at Musselburgh by 6 lengths and as a result the handicapper has raised Triple Force 8lb. That is a big rise but this four year old looks better and better recently and i’m not sure the wins are quite over just yet. Returns to Newcastle today where he has ran well previously and trip is right within firing distance. William Pyle back aboard today and it would be no surprise to see him ride Triple Force to victory today. Major player despite the 8lb rise.

Low mileage four year old from the Burke yard who has only ran four times with form of 1127. The seventh lto can be forgiven given it was on unsuitable soft ground at Doncaster. Returns to AW here where he looked very strong indeed in first couple of starts and is taken to resume the progression he showed. Does have a wide draw to contend with in stall 14, but does generally start well and so may get out quickly. One of the more unexposed types in the field and improvement is likely and whilst only running here once previously on debut, it was a win. Yard have had a fantastic season and would be no shock to see another Burke winner here with First Ambition who looks primed to strike back on AW.

Largely inconsistent for previous trainer and since joined the George Baker yard who gave this four year old a wind op before stable debut lto and things have certainly clicked. Won very nicely that day and is taken to show the same kind of performance here today at Chelmsford. Does have the wide draw, but also did at Kempton lto when winning so shouldn’t curtail chances too much. Looks to have found a new lease of life and I don’t think we’re done seeing this girl winning. Stable in solid form and a good jockey aboard in Neil Callan. Lots to like and looks the winner.

Experienced yet unexposed over fences (213). Ran well here LTO despite a 10lb hike and should come on for the run. Track, trip and ground all ideal. Freddie Gordon flying. Big chance.

2️⃣ Triple Force – 3.28 Newcastle – 10/3
Chasing a hat-trick and looked miles ahead of the assessor winning by 6 lengths LTO. An 8lb rise is hefty but justified — this horse is thriving and returns to a course he runs well at. Huge player.

3️⃣ First Ambition – 5.15 Newcastle – 11/2
Ignore the seventh on soft ground at Doncaster. Back on the AW here where he looked excellent on his first two starts. Wide draw but usually starts well. Unexposed, progressive and dangerous.

4️⃣ Calafrio – 7.00 Chelmsford – 11/4
Wind-op + first run for George Baker worked wonders LTO. Won impressively from a wide draw — has another wide stall today but proved it’s no issue. New lease of life and looks the likely winner.
