Small field handicap here in the third race on the Lingfield card and the obvious answer to this race is Beaumadier. After some hit and miss performances early last month bounced right back lto at Wolverhampton when winning comfortably by over 3 lengths. Returns to Lingfield today over the same trip and this is a course this six year old has some good performances at. Had an awful draw lto at Wolverhampton but gets a cracker today from stall 1. 3lb well in under a penalty and looks set to complete a double. Billy Loughnane is aboard today which is a positive jockey change and Billy is riding well at the moment with a strikerate north of 20% in the last 30 days. If Beaumadier can string the strong runs together here, should run out the winner in this. Great chance.

Factual looks the standout bet on today’s card and is taken to return to winning ways. A classy debut winner at Salisbury, the form from that race has worked out exceptionally well since, with multiple subsequent winners emerging from behind.

He returned from a seven-month break when finishing a solid second at Lingfield last time out and clearly shaped as though he’d improve significantly for the run. Dropping back in class here, drawn well in stall 3, and representing a Balding yard in excellent form, Factual looks primed to strike.

Callum Hutchinson is a notable booking and the yard’s record at Newcastle is strong, particularly when this jockey is involved. With natural progression expected, Factual looks the one to beat.

Reason for Tip

Out of sorts for old yard last year and changed yards at the back end of last year and now resides with the Candlish’s. Solid fourth on debut for the new yard in January but failed to back that up lto at here at this track when a remote seventh. Did race far too freely that day and under a tighter ride is likely to run a better race. Drawn wide but does a lot of racing from the rear so won’t mind slotting in towards the back here. Jockey change today to Lewis Edmunds is no negative and Lewis is riding pretty well at the moment. Drops back into 0-75 company today and can’t be completely ruled off at this level off this mark and so a chance is taken on this five year old bouncing back and into the places at the least.

Fleurman is far from a forlorn hope at a big price. A previous C&D winner off a mark 12lb higher, he’s shown signs of returning to form since switching yards and ran an encouraging third last time out.

This is a tougher race, but his current mark gives him a real shout, especially with Gina Mangan aboard, who boasts an excellent record at Newcastle. At 16/1, he’s capable of sneaking into the places or better.

Six year old Crossgales King has yet to win over hurdles and is 0-5 in this sphere but has been progressive with form of 75442 which culminated in a very strong second placed finish lto over C&D behind a smart rival. This is a weaker race here today and will be fine on the firmer ground today. Good record at this course and looks primed for another big run today. Ciaran O’Shea gets the ride and whilst he’s not riding lots of races at the moment, his strikerate is very high at the moment and he’s won here at this track before. Crossgales King looks likely to be heavily involved here.

Largely consistent eight year old who had a rare bad run lto at Fakenham when pulled up. Form prior to that was 3126 and looks to be on a very workable mark. Runs a trip that’s well within range today on ground that’s well suited and looks the type to put in a bounce back performance today. This race looks wide open for the taking with most of the horses in here struggling to find consistency recently. Safe Destination represents an experienced yard with a good jockey aboard in Sam Twiston-Davies. Would be no surprise to this horse bounce back today and if doing say has more than enough to take this race by the scruff of the neck and run out the winner.

Had been hovering around the placed at the back end of last year and then starting new year in fine style when getting up to win a Class 3 here at Lingfield in January. Couple of sub par performances last twice but excuses can be made for these runs as they were a wide draw that didn’t suit and then a bad start and hampered running and so The Thames Boatman looks a big danger still only 2lb higher than his win from a plum draw out of stall 1 today. This race is definitely not out of reach dropping back to Class 4 company at a course he has very good history at and the booking of Billy Loughnane only bolsters chances. Looks a very likely winner.

Reason for Tip

Nikovo has plenty of ability despite form being a case of knocking on the door of late. Third or second in last three starts and the third lto was not far away in a bunched finish and runs off the same mark today in the race he won last year. Ok draw in stall 6 and will be fine, pretty versatile to race positioning and as long as Jason Hart can get him well positioned at the break, should run on well as he has been. Couple ahead of this boy in the market but Nikovo knows this course very well and so does jockey Jason Hart who is back aboard. Jason is riding very well at the moment and Nikovo looks very well placed for a big challenge today.

This is not a strong race, the ground and trip suit, and Sean Flanagan is a big positive in the saddle. Major player.

Roysse

1.58 Sedgefield – 5/2

Roysse has progressed nicely since switching to fences and his third in a warm Aintree novice last time out reads well in this context. This represents a much easier assignment and further improvement is expected.

The Pauling–Woods combination is lethal at Sedgefield and this trip and ground are ideal. Very strong chance.

For Old Times Sake

Handicap debutants from this yard always demand respect and this looks a weak enough race for For Old Times Sake to step forward. Previous runs came in stronger company and today’s conditions should suit.

With many rivals carrying doubts, this five-year-old could easily outperform expectations now handicapping. Worth including.

Sedgemoor

Sedgemoor now finds himself running off a mark of 47 and drops into his first 0–50 handicap. Blinkers are applied for the first time and he’s very well drawn in stall 3, likely to get a prominent position.

The quality of this race is low and off this mark, Sedgemoor is simply too well treated to ignore. Big chance to capitalise.
