Reason for Tip

Had been a little underwhelming initially considering his ability on the flat but has now found his feet this year over hurdles. Won over C&D in Feb before going on to win the Imperial Cup at Sandown last month. Has been dropkicked by the handicapper for that success but doesn’t seem like we’ve seen the best of this five year old yet. Gets good ground today which should be very much suited and his jumping has looked better and better for each start. Still remains open to improvement in this sphere and very much looks the one to beat today at a course he enjoys. Represents a yard who’ve had a fantastic season and stable jockey Caoilin aboard for the ride. Yard and jockey share a 31% strikerate at the track when combining here and Mondo Man looks a major player in this. Very likely winner.

Mondo Man (4.05 Plumpton) – 13/8

The Moore yard have had a fantastic season and with Caolin Quinn aboard, the yard and jockey combination has an excellent strike rate at the track. Mondo Man looks a very likely winner today.

Wide open race here and one who has a very striking record at this course is Darvel from the Chamings yard. Two of this bots eight wins have been over course and distance and they were both on first run of the season in April 2024 and April 2025. Returns for first run of the season in April 2026 and has a good chance of repeating. Plum draw in stall 1 and ground conditions to suit are both further positives for Darvel. David Probert booking is a decent one, he has a strong record at this course and knows how to get the job done. Is going to take some winning from this mark following a double last summer but there’s a lot to like for a horse thats as high as 16/1 in the market and more than capable of producing a big run on seasonal return as we’ve seen plenty of times previously.

Darvel (4.55 Bath) – 14/1

This is a wide open race and one who has a very strong record at this course is Darvel from the Chamings yard. Two of his eight career wins have come over course and distance and both were on his first run of the season in April in both 2024 and 2025.

He returns again for his first run of the season in April and has a good chance of repeating that trend. A plum draw in stall 1 and suitable ground conditions are both big positives. David Probert is a strong booking and has a very good record at this course. Darvel will need a strong performance from this mark, but at around 14/1 he looks a big price and could easily outrun his odds.

Resurgent since switching yards and won on stable debut over C&D in very convincing style. Went up 10lb for that dominant win and nearly won again lto here when second by half a length. Runs off the same mark today and looks a major player again. Draw is fine, this four year old is pretty versatile to running styles and seems to perform whatever the combination at the moment. Represents a yard with a fine record here with a 40% strikerate and talented apprentice Taryn Langley retains the ride. Tuscan Point looks very likely to play a leading role here and would not be a surprise winner.

Pretty open race here in the third race on the card at Plumpton and one who looks very much open to further progress is seven year old Shalfa from the Goldstein yard. Five time winner on the flat who has been sent hurdling and only three runs in this discipline means improvement likely. Conditions are ideally suited here and trip is fine and in this race of largely more exposed hurdlers, Shalfa could improve beyond most of this field. Pretty weak handicap today and Shalfa can take advantage of that. Needs further improvement but not without a chance.

Handicap debut today in what looks a very winnable and Holly Mist is open to plenty of further progression and looks a likely winner today. Plum draw from stall 2 and slightly up in trip which on pedigree looks a favourable increase. Represents a shrewd and successful yard who are no stranger to Southwell success and has an in form jockey aboard in Callum Rodriguez. Yard have an exceptional record and have won a third of all runs here in the last two years. Holly Mist should take this and make a winning start to life in handicaps.

Has been expensive to follow recently with a lot of close calls and form reads 22623. Remains on a very workable mark and a win looks imminent and today looks a decent chance for that. Returns to turf for the first time since switching yards and that will hopefully provide that little extra for this four year old. Ok draw from stall 4 and this race is not a warm one, won’t take a great deal of winning and Volendam looks to be one of the likelier victors here. Yard and jockey both have very respectable course records and Volendam is in good hands. Ground conditions are fine and Volendam is taken to win on debut at Bath today.
