Reason for Tip

Talented hurdler from the ever imposing Mullins stable who hasn’t been seen since May this year. Has contested some prized races including the Fred Winter when finishing eighth in that event in March before going on to win a Grade 1 at Aintree and then fourth behind the impressive Lulamba lto at Punchestown. Has gone well fresh before and so the break shouldn’t be overly concerning. Nearly always runs a straight 2 miles and does so again today. Has ran best races on good to soft ground and should be fine on the forecast soft ground here, does best with some give in it. If going well fresh and running even close to best performances, this could be a formality in this field and looks the winner.

It’s Hatton’s Grace Hurdle day at Fairyhouse, and we have a blockbuster renewal ahead. The clash between Teahupooand Ballyburn is the headline story, but Teahupoo is taken to come out on top once again.

A dual winner of this race (2022 & 2023) and only denied last year by the outstanding Lossiemouth, he boasts a phenomenal profile at Fairyhouse. He’s fiercely consistent, a superb jumper, and goes extremely well fresh — all vital attributes in a race of this calibre.

Ballyburn has brilliance, but is less reliable, especially early in the season. Teahupoo’s class, experience and proven record make him the standout pick.

Large field handicap here in the 2.55 at Newbury and with plenty of bookies paying around 6 places, there’s plenty of scope for nicely priced places. One who stands out in this race as a bit of a dark horse is nine year old Panic Attack from the Skeltons. Form of 33121, including a Grade 3 lto at Cheltenham earlier this month is strong form. Does run under a penalty but is still very well treated and is 3lb ahead of the handicapper today. The big question is the trip, best form has been over 2m4f and so the step up here isn’t an obvious choice but who are we to question a yard as in form as the Skelton and may enjoy the added distance. Pretty wide open race, Panic Attack is unexposed at this trip and represents a yard in scintillating form along with having a good record here. Tristan Durrell aboard with his 3lb apprentice allowance. If making the distance, has a big chance here.

A wide-open contest at Carlisle and there’s good value in siding with Gibberwell at a big price. He’s a complicated horse at times — highlighted by his fall on seasonal return — but there’s no doubting his ability when things fall right.

He is very well handicapped, stays 3 miles strongly, and should strip much fitter after the comeback run. If he gets into a rhythm with his jumping, he’s more than capable of landing a place or even surprising them all.

Six year old Grand Geste ran some promising races over hurdles with a few place finishes but never managed to win over them. Sent chasing for the first time on seasonal return lto and looked much better in that discipline. Finished a strong second in what was a warmer race than this one. Only gone up 2lb for that result and looks very dangerous here today where he will likely strip a lot fitter for that first run and the experience over fences. With the likely improvement today Grand Geste looks the likely winner over ideal trip and on suited ground.

Five year old from the Pauling stable who has made an impressionable start to career. Won an Irish point in good style before making rules debut at Ayr when finishing fourth in quite a warm Class 2 NHF. Hurdle debut lto at Ffos Las and showed good finishing to get up to win that day. Runs over the same trip today which looks to be about ideal and won’t mind the softer ground as won on soft lto. Remains open to lots of progression and has seemed a progressive type so far so would be no surprise to see him go in again here. Represents a good yard with a top jockey aboard and looks the winner.

Cruz Control is no stranger to winning, particularly here with three wins at the track from four starts. Returns from a long break here today having won rather handily lto at Aintree back in April. Has gone up 4lb for that win, but it was rather comfortable and in a warmer race than this so that seems fair and shouldn’t take away from this eight year olds chances. Trip is fine and ground is ideal Cruz Control looks a major player today as we know he can go well fresh. Stan Sheppard aboard and lots to like today, big chance.

Cotiere had looked progressive on first three starts before a disappointing run lto at Kempton when fifth. However, runs in first handicap today and this is a weak entry point that is very much winnable for this three year old. Has ran once at this track previously and it was her best result so far and so the return here may be a positive also. Nicely bred filly who represents a top yard with a top jockey aboard in Hector Crouch. Remains unexposed, particularly in this line up and may improve enough in this weak race to get the job done today.

Winner of last season’s Fred Winter and the Irish Cesarewitch. Locks horns again with Last Kingdom but gets a valuable 7lb claim today. Ground ideal and looks primed for another big performance.
