Irish Champion Hurdle time here and it looks another cracking renewal. This race has been a great for a number of years and this lineup looks no different. World Class Lossiemouth is the at the head of the market and is the NAP selection for today. Ran 16 times, won 13 of them and she has been an absolute force to be reckoned with in the last few years. Now a seven year old, but things don’t look like changing really any time soon. Returned to action in the Morgiana at Punchestown which was comfortable enough before closing the door on rivals here at Leopardstown after Christmas, including Brighterdaysahead. Won by double figure lengths at Punchestown two starts ago on ground that was soft/heavy and so likely to be fine on the forecast ground here today. She’s been a dominant force with good reason and I don’t see that being toppled here today. Lossiemouth to win.

Irish Champion Hurdle time and it looks another cracking renewal. Lossiemouth sits deservedly at the head of the market and earns today’s NAP status.

A seven-year-old with an outstanding record, she’s won 13 of her 16 career starts and continues to dominate at the top level. She returned in the Morgiana at Punchestown before slamming the door on her rivals here at Leopardstown after Christmas, including Brighterdaysahead.

She’s proven on soft and heavy ground, having won by double-figure margins at Punchestown two starts ago, and there’s no sign that her dominance is fading. With Paul Townend aboard and everything falling into place, it’s hard to see her being toppled here.

Verdict: Class act, rock-solid NAP.

Trappy little race here and ten year old Bridge North is an interesting and unpredictable horse. Switched yards back in the latter half of last year and was disappointing on stably debut at Wetherby in November. Bounced back nicely in December at Southwell when second of seven but then returned to a poor showing lto at Doncaster when pulled up. Capable of a big run on his day and that is hopefully the case here with a return to Market Rasen. Will be fine on the ground and the trip is there or thereabouts his usual. The longer he stays with the Owen yard the better and this represents his fourth start today and an improvement looks on the cards. Has a fantastic jockey aboard in Gavin Sheehan who knows how to get the job done here and for James Owen trained horses. It’s a risk backing him given the up and down form, but if running even close to best, is more than capable of taking this at a nice price.

A risky one, but not without hope. Bridge North has shown flashes of ability since switching yards and this is now his fourth run for James Owen, where improvement is expected.

The return to Market Rasen could suit and Gavin Sheehan is a major plus in the saddle. If anywhere near his best, he’s capable of outrunning big odds.

Verdict: Each-way value at a price.

This opener at Market Rasen is wide open, it’s a very weak race and big question marks over most of this field. One who looks capable of capitalising is eight year old We Got Your Back from the Morgan stable. Doesn’t often go over the hurdles much these days so this return to this sphere looks interesting. Decent chaser, has won three times in much warmer races than this and should make a clean round of jumping today. Trip is right within range and has a good history here at Market Rasen. Forecast ground of good to soft is favourable and change of jockey today to Lewis Saunders. Lewis is riding very well recently with a strikerate north of 30% in the last thirty days. Also has a stellar record here at Market Rasen with four wins from seven races in the last couple of years. We Got Your Back looks a likely winner.

Eight year old Queens Gamble is a talented horse who has contested much hotter races than this including a pair of wins in Listed events and also runs in Grade 1’s at Cheltenham. Returned for seasonal debut back in November after a long lay off and was third that day, clearly needed the run and should be a much fitter and stronger horse today. This is a big drop in class back to Class 3 company and Queens Gamble looks a major threat today. Steps back up in trip top 2m4f but does stay that trip and on the forecast ground it’s definitely not a negative. Paul O’Brien gets the ride, Paul and the Derham stable have a very solid record together and would be no surprise to see that continued here in this. Queens Gamble is a major player.

Reason for Tip

Eight year old Solness enjoyed a fantastic season last year including a pair of Grade 1 wins, one of them being this race. Seems to do his best running at this track and generally performs very strongly here. Obviously a tough assignment today, as the Dublin Chase often is, however Solness looked a force to be reckoned with lto here at Leopardstown after Christmas and is taken to continue that form here today. Only real question mark is the ground, has seemed to underperform on heavy ground previously at times. However, with all that being said, seems hard to back against this boy at Leopardstown given what he’s shown us in the last 12 months at this course. J J Slevin back aboard today and he is enjoying a fine spell at the moment. Lots to like, going to be a fascinating race and one Solness hopefully walks away from the winner.

Lizzie Luna is largely consistent and if it wasn’t for some wayward direction in the closing stages lto here then would have won. Clearly remains on a very competitive mark and one that she is more than capable of winning off. Tends to enjoy this track and so the return here today is a positive. She’s pretty versatile to the ground and will stay the trip and is a pretty clean jumper so should make all the running. A lot in this field have question marks over them yet Lizzie Luna looks reliable and a solid choice for this. Craig Nichol retains the ride, he knows this mare very well and has a good record at this course. Lizzie Luna has a big chance to reverse the placings from lto today and would be a worthy winner.

A dual Grade 1 winner and a Leopardstown specialist, Solness returns to a venue where he does his best work – including winning this race last year.

While heavy ground can pose a question, his recent Leopardstown run suggested he remains a force at this track. Not an easy race, but he’s hard to oppose around here.

Consistent and reliable, Lizzie Luna arguably should have won last time here but for a late mistake. She remains on a very workable mark, enjoys Musselburgh, and is a clean jumper who should be prominent throughout.
