There has been two chapters really for Magna, the start of her career when taking 15 runs to get the job done and then has turned a corner and went in again lto to complete a double heading into the new year after being dropped down to 6f in December. Has found her feet at this trip and has looked even better lto when going in again. Up another 4lb for that success but now the loss streak has been broken, remains to be seen where her ceiling lies and im not sure 4lb has taken her there yet. Has an ok draw and the services of one of the best around in Oisin Murphy and Oisin has a very respectable 23% strikerate here. Hattrick looks very much achievable.

Slightly disappointing on debut at Haydock when well-backed, but showed clear progression lto at Southwell with a strong third in a hot race. That form has since been franked by the runner-up and with further improvement almost guaranteed, Aajej looks a class act in this field. Represents the powerful Crisford yard and has the in-form Callum Rodriguez aboard. Both trainer and jockey have excellent records on the all-weather. The pick of the bunch and a strong winning chance.

Reason for Tip

This five year old started life pretty well including a win back in October 2023 but has ultimately struggled a little since. However, we’ve seen a return to some solid form of late and the last two runs were both second places, with the run at Lingfield being a particularly close outcome. Remains on a very nice mark and looks to be stringing some performances together at long last. Trip and course no concern, should be a bold bid from this boy in this race here. Wide draw is the bit that looks a little dicey, his last two runs which have been his best for a while have both been after a switch to racing him prominently and started from stall 9 could hamper that, but with a quick start is capable of getting across to take a front running position and if allowed to do so, may take some catching. This race looks more of a chance than lto and is capable of taking this today.

The Cambridgeshire Handicap is one of the season’s trickiest puzzles, and history suggests favourites struggle – only one in the last 10 years has won. Outsiders often land this race, and Boiling Point fits the bill. From the in-form Burke yard (last year’s winners), this colt was excellent when second in the Group 3 Strensall last time. Already proven at Newmarket with a course win and drawn well to attack early. Intriguingly, both of the last two Cambridgeshire winners carried 9-12 – and Boiling Point is the only runner off that weight today. Strong each-way value.

Five year old Itsinthename is making first start on English ground today after a reasonable third in Irish point back in October. Very unexposed and open to plenty of progress. This looks a reasonable race for a chance at success on first start here and yard have a decent record with debutants in bumpers. Trip should be fine and looks one of the likelier ones to do well in this lineup. NIcely bred and has a good jockey aboard in Sam Twiston-Davies. Plenty to like today at a course the yard have enjoyed success at previously.

Five year old Wondering Why joined the Pauling after second time success in a bumper and despite being held on first two starts for new yard, has gone close both times and in progressive style. Wasn’t far away when second at Huntingdon in December and should come on again for that run. Will relish the soft ground again and the flat 2 miles seems to be his trip so plenty of positives today in what is a largely ordinary race. From a yard who are having a fantastic season and one of the best jockeys on the circuit at the moment. Would be no surprise to see him ride this youngster to victory today.

Three year old Saxon Prince from the Clive Cox yard started out with a strong debut when third in a warm race at Southwell however has failed to progress and was 5th and 6th in next two starts. First handicap for this youngster today and that may unlock what’s been missing as it so often does, clearly has ability and capable of a big first handicap run. Has an ok draw in stall 5, moves to Kempton for the first time and the change of venue may also be beneficial. Yard have moved the trip from 5f to 6f and on pedigree and performances, that looks to be the right move. Has a great jockey aboard in Hector Crouch and would be surprise if Saxon Prince wasn’t challenging the principals today.

No wins in first eight starts for this colt which poses a question mark, however has been rather strong in defeat on numerous occasions and three 2nd places in last 5 starts. Best form has been on tapeta and so the return to that surface is a big plus and was very close to getting the job done last time at Lingfield. A win looks imminent for Alasrae and today looks the ideal opportunity. Plum draw in stall 1 in quite a weak race and on the figures should be taking this with even a smidge of further improvement. Yard have had a great few weeks and top jockey aboard in Billy Loughnane who enjoys this track. Looks a likely winner today.
