Reason for Tip

This years Futurity Trophy Stakes looks like it might be heading to the O’Briens again with his three heading the market. Trainer has won this race on four occasions and has a very good chance to do it again. Of his runners, most notable is highly regarded two year old Benvenuto Cellini who has come on more and more each time culminating in a win in the Group 2 Juvenile stakes at Leopardstown lto in September. Posted some very strong figures when winning that and with progression still rather likely, this talented colt may prove a bit too strong today. Highly thought of and has an Irish 2000 Guineas entry and his odds in that market are likely to drop again if he gets the job done here in the Futurity. Historically, this race has been very good to the short priced favourites with them winning three of the last four runnings and that’s another positive for this evens shot. Big question mark is over Christophe, he’s not won at this track in his 7 rides in the last couple of years, so doubts over his comfort at this course but from a plum draw Benvenuto Cellini may only need steering here today. Looks the winner in waiting and a colt with a bright future.

The Futurity Trophy Stakes could once again be heading back to Ballydoyle. Aidan O’Brien has won this race four times, and Benvenuto Cellini looks well placed to make it five.

The colt has shown immense progression this year, crowned by a stylish Group 2 Juvenile Stakes win at Leopardstown last month. His figures were exceptional that day, and with further improvement expected, he sets the standard here.

Drawn well and representing elite connections, he looks a class above most of this field. Christophe Soumillon hasn’t had much luck at this track, but from stall 3, this colt should make his quality count.

Reason for Tip

Large field handicap here in the 2.20 and with most bookies paying 5 places, there is a good chance to find an outsider who might place for nice profit or win for fantastic returns. One that catches the eye is eight year old Ballycamus from the Twiston-Davies yard. This boy is a proven stayer who doesn’t really mind what the ground does. Had a great year last year with some great performance and wins and the handicapper acted accordingly which puts Ballycamus on a pretty lofty mark. However, on first start in over 6 months lto at Chepstow he ran brilliantly when finishing second over this trip and should strip much fitter for that run out. Mark looks doable and the yard have a good record here. Very open race and it’s a reasonable chance for Ballycamus to put in another big run at a nice price.

Big-field handicap here in the 2.20 Cheltenham, with bookmakers paying up to five places — ideal conditions for a lively outsider. Ballycamus fits that bill perfectly.

This eight-year-old is a proven stayer who rarely runs a bad race when fit. Returned from a six-month break with a cracking second at Chepstow over this same trip and should come on plenty for that.

Back down to a very workable mark, trained by one of the best Cheltenham yards around, and ridden by Sam Twiston-Davies, who knows him inside out — the signs are positive for another bold showing at value odds.

Four year old who has shown he knows how to get the job done. Has won multiple times this term including at Kempton in June and in rather emphatic style lto at Haydock. This trip today is on the shorter side of what he’s ran recently but is still within range and he has the speed to run this sharper distance. Very versatile to the ground and has won on soft previously. Has some strong recent form, from a yard enjoying a good spell and has a talented apprentice aboard taking off 3lb. Big chance for this four year old here.

There is a couple of very unexposed horses in this field which could be anything but the one that looks a likely winner is Burke trained Lam Yai. Has proven ability including a very strong second in the Group 3 Firth of Clyde lto. Sets a clear standard on form and has shown she can do it on soft ground too. Well drawn today to get out quickly and might just prove she’s a cut above the competition in this. Yard are having a sensational year and have a good record here. Good jockey aboard in Mr Gray and theres a lot to like about Lam Yai today and she looks the likely victor.

Pretty open race this 4.40 at Cheltenham with most unexposed horses. One that catches is the eye is Irish raider Bells Grove, placed on both starts so far and looks a progressive type. Course debut here at Cheltenham but the trip looks ideal and should suit the track as so many from this Irish yard do. The McConnells have a 29% course strikerate in British bumpers and in this very open race Bells Grove looks a major player. The forecast ground isn’t an issue and this four year old has performed well on similar lto. Big chance.

Two year out of the Channon stable who has been largely consistent and mostly progressive of late. Form reads 55623 and the last two races have been very encouraging. Handicap debut here today for Sunshine and Roses and this looks a very tempting opening mark. Has good form here from the run lto and runs over 7f today. Last time she went over 7f she went down a very close second two starts ago and this looks a very winnable entry point now handicapping. Yard have a 23% strikerate here and when George Bass rides for the Channons here at Wolverhampton, they combine to win 29% of the time. Great chance.
