Reason for Tip

Reasonable form when with Fergal O’Brien last season and moved to the Nicholls yard in the offseason and now resides there. Looked a much improved horse on seasonal debut at Stratford when winning handily and then backed that up earlier this month completing a double at Sedgefield by 6 lengths. Handicap debut today in a slightly warmer race but this five year old has looked better and better every race this year and this isn’t an overly high entry point for handicap debut. Represents a top yard with a great record here and has stable jockey Harry Cobden aboard. Ceiling of Absolutely Doyen has not been reached yet and the hattrick looks likely. Should win this.

Absolutely Doyen has looked a transformed horse since joining Paul Nicholls, winning his seasonal debut at Stratford with authority before bolting up at Sedgefield by 6 lengths. He now makes his handicap debut, but this is not a tough entry point and he still looks ahead of the assessor.

His progression this year suggests there is plenty more to come, and with the Nicholls/Cobden combination thriving at this track, he sets a very high standard. If he improves again—as he’s been doing consistently—he should complete the hattrick.

Reason for Tip

Five year old Sea Legend hasn’t won for over 18 months now and as a result the mark has fallen greatly. Highest winning mark of 80 and is now running off a mark of 70 here today. Goldie yard has also booked apprentice Lauren Young for the ride who has a 5lb apprentice claim which makes Sea Legend so well handicapped it’s hard to ignore. Will still need to reignite a little form but would not be a surprise if placing off this mark with Laurens allowance and a win is not completely ruled out. Yard ticking along nicely and are no strangers to winners here. Decent chance in Class 5 company like this and it’s a wide open race with the bookies paying 4 places. Interesting to see what Sea Legend can do off this lowly mark.

🎯 Dark Horse

Sea Legend – 3.30 Newcastle (14/1)

Jockey: Lauren Young (5lb claim)

Sea Legend hasn’t won in 18 months, but because of that long run without victory, he is now incredibly well handicapped. He drops into a mark of 70, a full 10lb below his last winning rating, and with the additional 5lb apprentice claim, he effectively runs off 65.

This is a wide-open Class 5 contest with bookies paying four places, and Sea Legend has shown enough in patches to suggest he can bounce back. The Goldie yard ticks along nicely, and they know how to place one around Newcastle. Big each-way chance and certainly not dismissed for the win.

1) Unjeu Royal – 11.45 Huntingdon (5/1)

Won on debut at Southwell, then ran in a Grade 2 at Aintree, which proved too hot. Lto at Worcester he was travelling like the winner before being badly hampered by a loose horse. Fitter today, talented, and from a yard with a strong track record. Major player with clean passage.

2) Etna Bianco – 12.25 Ascot (7/2)

Lightly raced and improving with each run. Third at Cheltenham lto in a warm novice and should step forward again today. Yard is flying, Powell has a 40% strike-rate at Ascot when riding for Tizzard, and trip/ground both ideal. Very likely winner.

3) Major Fortune – 3.35 Haydock (7/1)

Consistent and improving, despite being winless over fences. Very promising seasonal return when 4th in a deep Cheltenham race. Skeltons are in unstoppable form and he looks well-treated off this mark. Huge chance if building on seasonal debut.

4) Brasil Power – 6.25 Wolverhampton (4/1)

Dropped to a dangerous mark after a tough summer campaign. Showed revival signs when 3rd lto in Class 3 company. Drops to Class 4 here, same mark as his last win, top apprentice booked and excellent course record. Great chance to return to winning ways.
