Talented three year old from the Burrows yard who has shown great promise and nice progression so far recording two wins here in the UK, both in Class 2 company and both in good style. Ran in a Listed race at Saint-Cloud last month and was only edged out by Best Secret and that form only solidifies this youngsters chances. Return to 1m2f is arguably ideal, he stays beautifully over that trip and whilst this is course debut at Newmarket, yard are not unknown for winners here and are in decent form currently along with historically having lots of success here. Callum Rodriguez aboard is a solid booking and when yard and jockey have combined here in the last two years, they’ve won 33% of races. Tough challenge this race, but Gethin looks a very respectable young colt and is capable of taking this. Looks the winner.

Back to 1m2f — an ideal trip — and although this is his first run at Newmarket, the yard excels here and the jockey booking strengthens confidence.

Pretty wide open Class 3 over a mile at Newmarket here and one that stands out with an outside chance is Where’s Freddy. This Williams trained five year old has plenty of course experience and two wins this year including one here back in June on the July course. We saw a return to form lto last month here at Newmarket when third and could progress further from there. Newmarket tends to favour those with experience and this five year old has plenty. Well drawn in stall 4 and yard whilst not enjoying a stellar course record, are ticking along nicely at the moment with a fortnightly 18% strikerate. Marco Ghiani aboard who shares a similar 17% strikerate this last fortnight and is a good booking for this and has a good history on the Williams trained horses. This race is certainly up for grabs from those at the top of the market and Where’s Freddy can have a say in that battle here at a nice price.

Five year old from the Nicholls yard who has really turned a corner this year recording a double of wins in June when last seen. The second of which, lto, was 25length demolition job at Newton Abbot. Does have a break to contend with today as hasn’t been since that win but if going well fresh and resuming any sort of progress that we did see will see Byzantium be a major threat here. Yard has a very strong 23% strikerate with horses after breaks of 60 or more days and they know how to ready them so it may not be as big a negative as it can be. Jay Tidball retains the ride with his 3lb apprentice allowance and with the form the yard are in currently along with what Byzantium showed us when last seen, should take some beating here.

Jefferson trained four year old who was running consistently well in defeat earlier this year before finally getting up to win at Uttoxeter lto in May. Has gone up 4lb for that win and has a break to contend with but he has gone well fresh previously and this race, whilst being up a grade from the win lto, is not overly strong and both trip and ground are ideal for this boy so whilst there is some question marks, there is plenty of positives too. Most of this field bar a couple are making seasonal debuts today and Maple’s proven ability to run well fresh should stand him in good stead here today. Yard ticking along okay and this four year old looks to have a solid chance today in this.

Low mileage five year old from the King yard who has been largely consistent in what we’ve seen so far with form of 2213 and makes handicap debut today at a very reasonable entry point. Hasn’t ran since January but was coming off a long break when second at Warwick in November and so seems to be fine going well fresh. Looks to be a very workable opening mark and Don’t Mind If I Do remains very unexposed. Ground is favourable and trip is ideal, represents a shrewd and successful stable and has a great booking in Thomas Bellamy. Would not be a surprise to see this five year old win today.

Three year old who has struggled a bit this year thanks to the handicappers hammer coming down hard after a win at Catterick this time last year however as a result he is on a nice mark today and one that looks to be winnable from. Drops back a furlong to 6f and from what we’ve seen this year that is likely a positive move and should suit Kirkdale. Has never won here at Newcastle but has ran well at the track and the return here is a positive. Represents a top yard in the Bethell’s and has an inform and talented jockey aboard in Kevin Stott. Kevin doesn’t have the greatest record here but is riding plenty of winners currently and has a great strikerate on this stables horses. Kirkdale is a big player today off this mark, at a course he enjoys with an inform jockey to do the steering.
