Reason for Tip

Three year old Hassaleh is a very nicely bred Night Of Thunder filly from the Appleby yard who is capable of improving greatly from the rather green debut run at Windsor. Not seen since that run in June last year and make course debut at Newmarket today and there has already been market confidence from 11/8 into 5/4. Well drawn in stall 3, open to plenty of further progression and is one of the stand out horses in this field today. Represents a top yard and has a fantastic jockey aboard in William Buick. Yard have a fantastic record here and are also running at a 45% strikerate in the last two weeks. Buick and Appleby have a 30% win rate when pairing at this track. Likely winner today.

Shotgun Shirley showed plenty of ability in bumpers, including a win at Uttoxeter and an excellent second in a Listed event at Cheltenham back in November. Since going hurdling, her progression has been steady rather than flashy, but improvement is clearly coming.

She finished seventh on hurdle debut before stepping forward nicely when fourth at Warwick last time out behind Edith Pelham. Further improvement looks highly likely here, with both trip and ground expected to suit, particularly given her best bumper form came on soft and heavy conditions.

Lucy Wadham’s yard are absolutely flying, operating at a 50% strike-rate over the past fortnight, and Tom Cannon gets the ride, a jockey who has been riding particularly well for the stable. In what looks a very winnable race, Shotgun Shirley looks the one to beat.

Reason for Tip

Asmeralda is one of the most unexposed horses in this race with only one run so far. That debut was at Kempton before Christmas and won nicely. Beautifully bred Night of Thunder filly who is potentially a very nice horse in the making. Will be fine off the break and both trip and ground are suitable. Well drawn in stall 4 and represents a yard who’ve won this six times including last year. Oisin Murphy booking is notable and he has a good record for the Gosdens. This filly has a big chance today and a rather nice price too. Should be heavily involved and certainly not written out of winning this.

Reason for Tip

Eight year old Tara Iti was a smart horse a couple of years ago and notched up no less than eight wins over hurdles for the Moore and Owen yards but has been off the boil for a little while and now resides with the Brennan yard and has yet to make an impact for new yard. However, as a result Tara Iti is very well handicapped and well below highest winning mark and the mark has become a little hard to ignore. Can act over this trip and the ground is in her favour. This really is a wide open race and the change of track to Hereford may be enough to spark a little revival. Good apprentice aboard in Oscar Palmer who has notched multiple wins lately and with a bit of fortune Tara Iti looks capable of placing off this mark at a big price and a win would be a bonus.

🎯 Dark Horse

White Umbrella

7.30 Wolverhampton – 16/1

A wide-open handicap and White Umbrella looks overpriced at 16/1. She completed a double at this track last June off marks of 57 and 61, but has since struggled off higher ratings in the high 60s.

Her mark has now dropped back to 65, which looks far more workable in a race of this nature. She’s no stranger to Wolverhampton, having won twice here and run several solid races since, and a middle draw in stall 7 looks perfectly fine based on previous successes.

The booking of Jason Hart is a big positive and represents a clear jockey upgrade. With proven course form, a reduced mark and a capable rider aboard, White Umbrella could easily outrun her odds and is capable of placing or better.

Hannon trained horse at the head of the market but looks a little vulnerable and so a chance is taken on Burke trained three year old Different Opinions. Ran well on debut before regressing slightly on second start lto at Southwell. However, on pedigree this drop in trip is a big positive and looks a likely improver today. Well drawn in stall 4 and the Burke yard have a very strong record at this course, particularly with their three year olds. Pierre-Louis retains the ride and he is riding well at the moment along with having a good record for this yard at this course. Lots of positives today and Different Opinions looks to have a real chance here at a nice price.

Reason for Tip

Craven Stakes time at Newmarket and Hark Mountain is an impressive Ballydoyle colt who’s not really put a foot wrong last year as a two year old. Form of 5111 including the Group 1 Futurity at Doncaster and very much the form pick for this race. Does need to answer the fresh question mark but the yard have a good record and know how to prime horses returning from a break. Trip should still be fine as a three year old and whilst best form thus far has been on testing ground, unexposed on good and on pedigree doesn’t look a negative. Well drawn, very much in form and progressive and represents a major yard with a world class jockey aboard in Ryan Moore. Leading player and looks to have an excellent chance.

Three year old Sailor Batt might be a maiden still after 9 runs but has gone close on a number of occasions and looks primed for a big run on return to turf today. Form this year is 253 and does act on grass so no reason he won’t be heavily involved again today. On a very workable mark and both ground and trip are ideally suited. This is not a strong race and won’t take a great deal of winning. Yard probably overdue a winner and have booked an inform jockey in Connor Beasley. Sailor Batt is unlikely to be far away here and looks capable of taking this.

Reason for Tip

Hattrick seeking Sherborne comes into today in very good form. Has looked better and better over fences of late and easily defied a 7lb rise to win again in fine style lto at Ascot. Has gone up another 8lb but in the form this 10yo is in, hard to discount frankly. Ideal trip on perfect ground and Sherborne looks set to produce another big run. This race is a little warmer than recent ones but returns to a course he’s ran well at previously and for a trainer who have a very good record here. In form and talented jockey aboard in Freddie Gingell who has won more than a third of his rides in the last two weeks and also boasts a 30% strikerate at this track. Yes the mark has gone up again, but the hattrick is very much on and Sherborne is taken to get the job done again.

John Galt has had just two starts to date, finishing fourth on both occasions, but there was plenty to like about his latest run. He contested a warm Class 3 last time, was slow from the stalls and had to come from well off the pace, yet finished strongly, flying home late.

Dropping down in class today, with those two runs now under his belt, a big step forward looks very likely. He has course experience, a good draw in stall 4, and represents an Osborne yard in excellent form, operating at a 30% strike-rate.

Billy Loughnane takes the ride and when teaming up with Jamie Osborne, the pair boast a 29% strike-rate. Everything points towards a major run.

Afancy Getaway

3.45 Southwell – 3/1

Jockey: Ben Jones

Afancy Getaway is a progressive six-year-old who won his Irish point and has shown steady improvement under Rules, with form figures of 342. He ran a strong race last time out at Ludlow, finishing second with a tongue-tie applied, suggesting there is still more to come.

He makes his course debut here over a similar trip and should handle the heavy ground, having shown promise on testing surfaces previously. This race doesn’t look overly strong and he remains open to further improvement.

From a top yard enjoying a fine season, and with Ben Jones aboard, who has an excellent record when combining with the Pauling yard, Afancy Getaway looks set for a big run.

The Wallpark

4.25 Leopardstown – 5/1

The Wallpark is a talented hurdler rated 155, who has recently been sent chasing. While his chase record reads 0-5, there was clear improvement last time out when finishing second in a Grade 2 at Navan.

He makes his handicap chase debut here off a mark 13lb lower than his hurdling rating, which immediately catches the eye. Representing a top Irish yard and with Mark Walsh booked, he looks well treated if his jumping continues to improve.

This looks a fairly open race and The Wallpark has a fantastic chance of going very close.

Isla Bella

6.30 Wolverhampton – 9/2
Trainer: Joey Ramsden
Jockey: P J McDonald

Isla Bella has been consistent without winning recently, but her form figures of 55434 since January suggest she’s not far away. This looks one of the weakest races she’s contested for some time, and she returns to her preferred 6f trip, which is a positive.

A wide draw isn’t ideal, but she’s happy to be ridden patiently and come late, which should suit the setup here. Her mark of 48 looks very workable and the switch to P J McDonald is a notable upgrade, with the jockey riding superbly at present.

Despite the yard not being in top form, Isla Bella looks a major player in this contest.
