Reason for Tip

Started life with a success in a warm bumper at Cheltenham when residing with the Bulgin yard. Now a part of the major Mullins yard and has ran a couple of crackers in defeat, lto behind a smart rival in a Listed even at Navan. Drops back down in grade today and looks the obvious answer here. Open to plenty more progression and this isn’t a strong bumper today. Course debut at Naas but should pose no concern, seems a consistent type and from a yard with a stellar record here. Patrick Mullins gets the ride and Poetisa could prove a class above this lot today. Should win.

⭐ NAP of the Day

Shotgun Shirley

Shotgun Shirley showed plenty of ability in bumpers, including a win at Uttoxeter and an excellent second in a Listed event at Cheltenham back in November. Since going hurdling, her progression has been steady rather than flashy, but improvement is clearly coming.

She finished seventh on hurdle debut before stepping forward nicely when fourth at Warwick last time out behind Edith Pelham. Further improvement looks highly likely here, with both trip and ground expected to suit, particularly given her best bumper form came on soft and heavy conditions.

Lucy Wadham’s yard are absolutely flying, operating at a 50% strike-rate over the past fortnight, and Tom Cannon gets the ride, a jockey who has been riding particularly well for the stable. In what looks a very winnable race, Shotgun Shirley looks the one to beat.

Reason for Tip

Six year old point winner from the Lacey yard who has been running very well in rules so far with form of 245. This is only second handicap start and remains open to plenty of progress in this sphere. Quite nicely bred and capable of running good races. Drops back in trip today which looks a positive, has seemed a little stretched at the 3 miles so 2m5f is a good distance for this youngster and one he’s enjoyed previously Good to Soft is perfectly suited and this race looks pretty ripe for the picking honestly. Stan Sheppard gets the ride and it wouldn’t be a big surprise if Jimmy Hurdstrom runs into place money at a nice price here and with a good round of jumping isn’t written out of winning this either.

🎯 Dark Horse

White Umbrella

7.30 Wolverhampton – 16/1

A wide-open handicap and White Umbrella looks overpriced at 16/1. She completed a double at this track last June off marks of 57 and 61, but has since struggled off higher ratings in the high 60s.

Her mark has now dropped back to 65, which looks far more workable in a race of this nature. She’s no stranger to Wolverhampton, having won twice here and run several solid races since, and a middle draw in stall 7 looks perfectly fine based on previous successes.

The booking of Jason Hart is a big positive and represents a clear jockey upgrade. With proven course form, a reduced mark and a capable rider aboard, White Umbrella could easily outrun her odds and is capable of placing or better.

Largely consistent in his four races last year with form of 5244 including a run here at this track. Returned from a break into a Class 3 in January this year and won in the closing stages there. Only gone up 2lb and that was a fantastic start to this campaign and Ukantango looks set for another big run today in what represents a drop in class. Trip and ground both fine and from a yard with a fantastic record both here and currently. Lewis Stones gets the ride and this nine year old should be going very close again today.

Pretty open race here in the third on the card at Naas and one who looks set to challenge is five year old Might Be The One from the McNamara yard. Has been running ok of late and the second at Limerick just after Christmas was decent form. Prefers the ground like it is today and the drop back to 2 miles is a positive. Does need to bounce back after a poor run at Down Royal but that can be a tricky track so capable of a big run in suited conditions today at Naas. Pretty weak race and won’t take much winning. O’Keeffe aboard is a good booking and he’s no stranger to Naas success. Big player.

Six year old Guet Apens has only had one start on British soil which was last month at Musselburgh when fourth of eleven. Was a useful french flat racer and so that third was positive for hurdling debut here in the UK. Runs an extra furlong today from lto which looks a positive and will be fine on the soft ground. Likely to be much fitter today as the run last time was first for 19 months. In good hands stable wise and has a good jockey aboard in Craig Nichol. Very unexposed still in this discipline and looks capable of improving beyond most of this field and would not be a surprise to see him get the win here.

Reason for Tip

Consistent type who’s last three runs read 321 and the win lto was convincing enough to back again given the rise is only 2lb. Has looked progressive since December last year and there’s a chance the ceiling is still above the current mark. Runs a familiar trip on soft ground which is no concern and Vanilla Dancer looks a big player today in this field of horses with largely worse recent form. Has the benefit of a top jockey in Danny McMenamin and he has a decent record here. Race looks to be between Vanilla Dancer and Holly Bird but Vanilla Dancer has been much more consistent and progressive and looks a likely winner today to complete a double.

John Galt has had just two starts to date, finishing fourth on both occasions, but there was plenty to like about his latest run. He contested a warm Class 3 last time, was slow from the stalls and had to come from well off the pace, yet finished strongly, flying home late.

Dropping down in class today, with those two runs now under his belt, a big step forward looks very likely. He has course experience, a good draw in stall 4, and represents an Osborne yard in excellent form, operating at a 30% strike-rate.

Billy Loughnane takes the ride and when teaming up with Jamie Osborne, the pair boast a 29% strike-rate. Everything points towards a major run.

Afancy Getaway

3.45 Southwell – 3/1
Trainer: Ben Pauling
Jockey: Ben Jones

Afancy Getaway is a progressive six-year-old who won his Irish point and has shown steady improvement under Rules, with form figures of 342. He ran a strong race last time out at Ludlow, finishing second with a tongue-tie applied, suggesting there is still more to come.

He makes his course debut here over a similar trip and should handle the heavy ground, having shown promise on testing surfaces previously. This race doesn’t look overly strong and he remains open to further improvement.

From a top yard enjoying a fine season, and with Ben Jones aboard, who has an excellent record when combining with the Pauling yard, Afancy Getaway looks set for a big run.

The Wallpark

4.25 Leopardstown – 5/1

Jockey: Mark Walsh

The Wallpark is a talented hurdler rated 155, who has recently been sent chasing. While his chase record reads 0-5, there was clear improvement last time out when finishing second in a Grade 2 at Navan.

He makes his handicap chase debut here off a mark 13lb lower than his hurdling rating, which immediately catches the eye. Representing a top Irish yard and with Mark Walsh booked, he looks well treated if his jumping continues to improve.

This looks a fairly open race and The Wallpark has a fantastic chance of going very close.

Isla Bella

6.30 Wolverhampton – 9/2
Trainer: Joey Ramsden
Jockey: P J McDonald

Isla Bella has been consistent without winning recently, but her form figures of 55434 since January suggest she’s not far away. This looks one of the weakest races she’s contested for some time, and she returns to her preferred 6f trip, which is a positive.

A wide draw isn’t ideal, but she’s happy to be ridden patiently and come late, which should suit the setup here. Her mark of 48 looks very workable and the switch to P J McDonald is a notable upgrade, with the jockey riding superbly at present.

Despite the yard not being in top form, Isla Bella looks a major player in this contest.
