Reason for Tip

Last three runs here at Wolverhampton for this five year old have resulted in form of 131. Won handily last time here over a shorter trip and only gone up 3lb for that success. Looks to still be nicely treated and the return to a 2m trip today are not a negative, won over this distance back in October at this course. Jack Nicholls and his 5lb apprentice allowance retain the ride from lto and he has a good record for this trainer. This isn’t a particularly strong race on paper and this in form and reliable horse looks a major danger. Draw seldom matters over this trip and regardless, Francesco Baracca likes to sit at the rear and come over the top in the closing stages. Double is one, and looks nailed on frankly, should win again here.

Francesco Baracca looks a rock-solid NAP in the 7.30 at Wolverhampton.

This five-year-old has an excellent record at this track, with his last three runs here reading 1-3-1, and he scored comfortably last time over a shorter trip. A 3lb rise still leaves him looking well treated, especially considering he has already won over today’s 2m trip at this venue.

Jack Nicholls keeps the ride and his 5lb claim is a big positive, while the race itself doesn’t look particularly deep. Draw is no issue over this distance and his usual hold-up style should suit perfectly again.

Everything points towards another bold showing — and he looks very hard to oppose.

At much bigger odds, Lively Citizen looks an interesting Dark Horse in the 1.37 at Southwell.

He ended last season in good form, winning at Ffos Las before finishing second in a competitive Aintree hurdle. His seasonal return at Uttoxeter can be forgiven — that trip was much further than ideal and he now drops back to his preferred 2 miles.

Soft ground is a big plus, fitness should be improved, and with Jack Tudor booked, this 11-year-old is more than capable of outrunning his odds. If bouncing back to form, he could go very close at a generous 16/1.

Stacked race here in the opener at Leopardstown and one who’s taken to run a big race is six year old Kazansky from the Elliot yard. Unseated on rules debut back in October last year but has proven ability since on two subsequent runs when scoring at Cork and Limerick. Shown progression with each start and will absolutely relish the heavy ground that’s forecast. Will stay the trip, remains open to improvement and is a very capable young horse. Represents one of the major irish yards who have a brilliant record here and top string stable jockey Jack Kennedy aboard for the ride. Will take something extra to win this Grade 1, but from what we’ve seen so far it would be silly to write Kazansky out of this. Big chance.

Talented individual over the years, now a seven year old and has been some underperformances in recent starts. With that being said, hadn’t ran for over a year when reappearing lto at Wetherby and whilst clearly needed the run, proved he could still compete and make it round in a warmer race than this. Drops back a class here into class 3 company and likely to come on bounds given the fact Madara will be much fitter today. Will stay this trip, should be fine on the ground and represents a major yard with top stable jockey aboard in Harry Skelton. Would not be a surprise to see a big run today at this level and Madara is taken to return to winning ways today.

Pretty open race here and one who looks set to perform is Five year old Firm But Fair from the Derham stable. By far the most unexposed horse in the race and remains open to stacks of further improvement/progression. First handicap today for this five year old and it’s a modest entry point that he can capitalise on. Not been out of the frame in first two starts under rules and looks set to keep momentum heading positively. This race is no foregone conclusion and Firm but Fair is a strong candidate and looks a major player here. Strong jockey booking in Sam Twiston-Davies and the Derham yard have a brilliant record here at this track with a 33% strikerate in the last 2 years. Big chance.

Reason for Tip

Three year old filly from the Sangster yard with only four runs under her belt so far. Form was 686 in maidens before hitting the ground running on handicap debut lto at Lingfield when a strong third of nine. Finished very strongly last time and further improvement still very likely for this youngster. Does have a wide draw to contend with here from stall 10 but has started stronger and stronger in her last few races so is more than capable of getting into a favourable position early on. Still very unexposed and this isn’t a particularly strong lineup. Yard and jockey have a good record together when combining that is north of 20% and Frankali has a chance at improving that here.
