There is one ahead of her in the market but that horse hasn’t progressed massively on first two starts and is returning from a decent break and so looks pretty vulnerable. Varian yard have a good record in maidens in recent years and are also 2-9 this year. They have a good record at this course north of 20% and Bintaziza looks to have a very good chance today of going in first time. Yard and jockey combine well together and enjoy success together so Ray Dawson is a decent booking for the debut run. Trip looks ideal on pedigree, closely related to some talented milers and if the Varian yard have readied this youngster, will be tough to beat today. 11/4 looks a tasty price and a win looks likely.

This Roger Varian-trained filly enters a race that doesn’t look overly strong, with the market leader failing to show significant progression so far and returning from a break — leaving the door open for a well-prepared newcomer.

Lightly raced youngster who has only ran four times and whilst form reads 6244, hasn’t been far away and ran a good race on handicap debut when last seen at Sandown in a warmer race than this. Further progression highly likely and returns to action in a largely weak race and could well capitalise on that. Does come back from 6 months off but ran a cracker after 3 months off last year and so should be fine going well fresh here. Well drawn in stall 4 and trip is his usual. Kieran Shoemark aboard is a always a big plus and he has a very respectable course record. The Perrett is a small one, but they’ve had a win from three recently and Perfect Scoundrel if going well fresh could add another notch to that tally. Looks to have a reasonable chance.

If you’re looking for value, Perfect Scoundrel is a very interesting outsider.

Lightly raced with just four runs, he has shown promise in stronger races and wasn’t far away on handicap debut at Sandown last time out. This represents a drop into a weaker contest, and further improvement looks likely.

He returns from a break, but has gone well fresh before, and with a good draw and a capable jockey in Kieran Shoemark, he could be well-positioned to strike.

Pretty weak looking race today and one who looks set for a big run is five year old No Knee Never from the Owen yard. Consistent of late and on a very workable mark and wasn’t far away at this track over C&D two starts ago when a close third. Likely to run well again and represents a yard with a more than average record at this course. Henry Callan gets the ride and whilst he’s not ridden a great deal lately, when he has he’s been winning. 50% strikerate in the last 60 days and in the last two years he’s never lost a race at this track. Four rides, four wins. No Knee Never might just make that five from five today.

Seven year old Jehol De Thaix has been largely progressive and after a close call at Haydock two starts ago, bettered that lto at Newcastle when getting the job done. Gone up 6lb, but still low mileage and open to plenty of further progress. Has a tendency to be a little inconsistent with his jumping so any improvement there would be plenty of lengths gained and would make him a very tough horse to beat today. Danny McMenamin retains the ride and he’s always a strong booking, particularly here where he enjoys very regular success indeed. Conditions look well suited today and there’s not a great deal in this field who look up to the challenge and so Jehol De Thuix is taken to win again.

Has been running well over there in arguably better races and the second and third in last two starts there is better form than a lot of this lot. Is fit as ran last month and should go well today, albeit from a wider draw. Will appreciate the ground and from a top yard who have started the year well. Harry Davies aboard. Good chance for this youngster to return to Britain in winning style here.

Three year old Nebulon has been very much progressive both in result and at the figures in first two starts. Sixth of eight at Windsor on debut and came on nicely to finish second at Wolverhampton lto. Further improvement highly likely and very much seems to be a winning in waiting and this looks a good chance. Well drawn in stall 3, trip is fine and from a yard enjoying a fine spell with a 32% strikerate in the last month. Rowan Scott retains the ride and whilst may not be the strongest of bookings, if Nebulon improves further it may a steering job anyway. Big chance and a likely winner.
