Engross looks one of the standout bets on the card today and gets the nod as our NAP of the Day.

The progressive sort from the Fanshawe yard returned with a win on handicap debut at Chelmsford last time out, and the 4lb rise looks very fair given how comfortably he got the job done. His form now reads 7741, and there’s every reason to believe there’s more to come.

Today marks his turf debut, but on pedigree, there’s no concern switching surfaces. Conditions look ideal, and with Daniel Muscutt booked, who has a strong record for the yard, everything points towards another big run.

He handles good ground well and has run several competitive races over this distance. Representing the enthusiastic Old Gold Racing syndicate, this courageous veteran is dangerously well handicapped and remains highly capable of making his presence felt in the final stages of this staying contest at a nice price.

If you’re looking for an outsider horse racing tip, Toyotomi is the one to keep an eye on.

This low-mileage 5-year-old from the O’Meara yard showed plenty of ability last season, including runs at Listed level, and wasn’t far away when last seen at Goodwood. Now gelded and returning fresh, he could have plenty more to offer.

He’s drawn well in stall 4, the yard has a strong record at Newcastle, and Daniel Tudhope in the saddle only adds confidence.

In what looks a wide-open race, Toyotomi has the profile to outrun his odds and get involved late.
