Small field race here and an eyecatching horse is Society Solider. Only twice raced under rules and has been progressive in both starts. Fifth at Kelso on hurdling debut and third lto here at Ayr. Open to buckets of progression, ran well here lto and the longer trip today looks a nailed on positive from both what we’ve seen and also on pedigree. Soft ground looks suited and the one ahead of this six year old in the market looks a bit unreliable under a big penalty and so Society Soldier is taken to win this. With further improvement, on the figures looks like could take this race handily and jockey Derek Fox has a fantastic record here at Ayr. Beaten favourite lto, might not be beaten again today. Looks a likely winner, major player.

⭐ NAP of the Day

Our NAP of the Day goes to the progressive Society Soldier in the 2.50 at Ayr.

The six-year-old has only raced twice under rules but has already shown plenty of promise. He finished fifth on hurdling debut at Kelso before improving nicely to finish third at Ayr last time out, showing signs that further progress is very likely.

Today’s step up in trip looks a big positive, both based on what we have seen on the track and from his pedigree. Conditions are also expected to suit, with soft ground looking ideal for the Russell and Scudamore-trained runner.

One of the main market rivals runs under a hefty penalty and has shown signs of being unreliable, which further strengthens the case for Society Soldier.

With Derek Fox in the saddle – a jockey with an excellent record at Ayr – Society Soldier looks capable of taking another step forward and could prove difficult to beat.

Seven year old Green Team has struggled this winter but as a result is now 3lb below highest winning mark and he’s looking quite nicely treated again now. Nothing to really write home about from recent starts apart from a couple of runs at trips that didn’t suit. Back to his favourite 1m4f trip today and he won at this distance or closely similar on a number of occasions, three in fact back at the start of last year. Tends to do his best running in the first 4 months of the year and so another chance is given to him today. Has an ok draw, yard doing nicely and has a top jockey aboard in Billy Loughnane and Billy is no stranger to course success here. This race looks one that he can contest and if bouncing back to form, has claims for the win. Big price, but not without a chance.

🎯 Dark Horse

Our Dark Horse racing tip comes in the 4.26 at Newcastle with Green Team, who could represent excellent value at double-figure odds.

The seven-year-old has struggled during the winter months but as a result has now dropped 3lb below his highest winning mark, leaving him looking attractively treated.

Recent runs have come over trips that did not fully suit, but today he returns to his favourite distance of around 1m4f, a trip where he has recorded several victories including three wins at the start of last year.

Green Team also tends to perform best during the early months of the year, so this could be the right time for him to bounce back.

The booking of Billy Loughnane is another major positive, as the talented jockey has an excellent record at Newcastle and is riding with confidence.

If Green Team can return to anything like his best form, he could easily outrun his odds and get involved in the finish.

Progressive in France and won bumper at Moulins on last start before coming over here. Now resides at the Hobbs and White yard and on first start for them over hurdles at Huntingdon fell at the first. That was no show of this five year olds ability and can be forgiven for that fall. Likely to take a step forward here on second start over hurdles and this trip and ground combination looks ideal. Represents a yard in fine form who are having a great couple of weeks and has to be taken seriously today. Callum Pritchard retains the ride and he’s a good booking and has won 28% of his rides in the last two weeks. If staying upright, Limer D’arthel looks a major threat.

Eight year old mare from the Rowley yard who has only had four starts since December 2024 when signing off in style at Uttoxeter in a warm mares hurdle. Returned from that win after a year off at Uttoxeter in December and was last that day, clearly needed the run and to blow the cobwebs away. Fourth of Eleven two starts ago was more like it and was sent chasing lto at Hereford. Won nicely that day on pretty sticky ground and has only gone up 2lb for that win. Darren Andrews retains the ride and this race looks a good distance on suited ground and this girl is unlikely to be far away. Big chance to complete a double today.

Pretty open race here in the last of the day at Ayr and one who looks a little well handicapped to ignore is Good Work. Has struggled a little of late but highest winning mark of 108 and has now dropped down to 96 and looks set for a big run. Can be a little unreliable when it comes to jumping but he will stay this trip and should be suited to this ground. Very capable off the right mark and this looks right about where he should be. Would not be surprised to see him feature today, from a yard ticking along very nicely indeed and to further the cause, has an apprentice aboard today taking off 7lb. Good Work looks a threat today and could take this.

Bit of a complicated young horse who struggled in some warmer races this winter but as a result dropped into 0-50 company lto and even though he reared up, pulled like a train and found trouble in running, still managed to kick on and win by a length. Has now had two solid runs in a row and can be backed with a little bit more enthusiasm today even under a penalty. Has a good draw, will possibly appreciate the drop back to 5f as has plenty of speed and remains open to further progress following the win last time. Yard in great form and Classy Clarets has Greg Fairley aboard again after the win. Greg has won nearly 40% of his rides in the last couple of weeks. Lots of positives for this youngster today and another win doesn’t look off the cards. Good chance.

With that experience behind him and representing a stable currently in excellent form, the five-year-old could take a significant step forward here.

Callum Pritchard keeps the ride and has been in tremendous form recently, boasting an impressive strike rate over the past two weeks.

Subtle Fortune – Leicester

Subtle Fortune is a consistent mare from the Rowley yard who returned to action in December after a lengthy break.

She clearly needed the run on her comeback but has improved with each start since, finishing fourth before winning nicely on her chasing debut at Hereford.

The handicapper has only raised her 2lb for that victory, which still leaves her looking well treated.

With Darren Andrews retaining the ride and conditions expected to suit, Subtle Fortune looks capable of following up.

Good Work – Ayr

Good Work could represent excellent value in a competitive race at Ayr.

The nine-year-old has struggled for consistency recently but is now well handicapped, having dropped from a highest winning mark of 108 to a rating of just 96.

While his jumping can occasionally be unreliable, he has the stamina for this trip and should handle the ground conditions.

The booking of an apprentice claiming 7lb further improves his position and if he can produce one of his better efforts, he could prove difficult to ignore.

Classy Clarets – Newcastle

Classy Clarets comes into this race after a determined win in 0–50 company last time out, despite facing several difficulties during the race including pulling hard and encountering trouble in running.

Even so, he still managed to power home and win by a length, showing plenty of determination.

The return to 5 furlongs could suit his speed, and with a good draw and the yard currently in excellent form, he looks capable of going well again.

Greg Fairley, who rode him to victory last time, keeps the ride and has been riding with great confidence recently.
