This Class 4 in the first at Yarmouth only has two runners and they are almost neck and neck in the betting. However, preference is for Flash Of Fire, a two year old out of the Ferguson yard who made a winning start at Doncaster on debut before struggling under a penalty at Kempton lto. However, she is more unexposed than her opponent Mcmurray and is open to more progression. Flash Of Fire has shown her promise and Mcmurray is on a penalty today after his win lto. Flash Of Fire likely to progress in good style here at Yarmouth and still has a Group 1 entry in the Fillies Mile next week. She has been crying out for a longer trip in her first two starts, that’s been evident, and she gets that today which is favourable. Yard in good form and it’s inform Oisin Murphy doing the steering and he has a great record here and a remarkable 29% strikerate on Ferguson trained horses. Flash Of Fire may well improve beyond Mcmurray and leave him comfortably behind. Looks the winner.

Moira Express is a two year old who was held to high promise before her debut but quite frankly ran below par and expectation on first two starts. We saw a marked improvement lto over C&D when finishing fourth and we are almost guaranteed to see further progression today now handicapping. She represents a powerful yard who after a slowish start to the year, have found a hot streak and are turning in regular winners. The Varian’s only runner making the trip to Wolverhampton and she looks a major threat to this field on handicap debut. Jack Mitchell aboard is a solid booking and he performs well on Varian trained horses and they share a 20% strikerate together. Moira Express is drawn well, is more unexposed than the opposition and is seemingly over priced at 8/1 and should well outrun those odds. Genuine chance at winning.

Plenty of unexposed types in this field, but Powder Monkey catches the eye as an outsider with potential. Nicely bred out of No Nay Never and closely related to Dewhurst winner Distant Music, the pedigree suggests quality. Boughey is shrewd with debutants (14% strike rate) and his yard is in sensational form (31% winners last fortnight). With Billy Loughnane aboard, Powder Monkey could make a big impression on debut. One to watch at the prices.

Flowstate is a consistent four year old from the O’Meara yard with form of 41552 since August. He didn’t go down by far lto when second at Ripon and the winner of that race has gone on to win again and so the form is strong. Course debut at Pontefract today for this boy but no reason to doubt effectiveness at the track as he’s versatile to both ground and track styles. Drops back a furlong here today for the first time in a while but he has plenty of speed and finishing strongly isn’t something he struggles with. Well drawn and has inform jockey Daniel Tudhope aboard. Tudhope along with being in form currently, has a 25% strikerate historically at this track. Not a log to write home about with the opposition here and so Flowstate looks a major player on an unchanged mark from the last run.

Two year old with three starts so far and has been very progressive after a slow start when beaten a fair distance on debut at Newmarket. Has posted improved second places in last two starts in classes higher than today’s Class 5. There is some dangerous newcomers from big yards, notably Sacred Ground from the Gosdens and Bintsaleh from the Haggas yard who both cost eye watering money. However, Yarmouth can trip up newcomers and whilst they could be anything and run away with this race, a chance is taken on proven Lyrics of Life who has posted good and highly progressive figures and is drawn well to get out quickly. Joe Leavy and Brian Meehan have a good strikerate when combining and this fillies experience may get the job done today.

Tele Red has had a lot of hard luck stories and to be frank, hasn’t won in two years and is now an old timer at 8 years old. However, if nothing else he has proven that he retains plenty of ability and can contest races. He has always ran well here historically at Pontefract and his mark has now dropped to 5 below last winning mark. I don’t doubt Tele Red can win another race and he looks a big player off this mark, at this track. The Burke’s are having a blistering year and it would be no surprise to see another win here in Tele Red. This is a weak Class 5 where he can capitalise under a strong Clifford Lee ride. Big chance.

Four year old from the Wintle yard who is a consistent sort. Rarely runs a bad race, particularly on Tapeta and looked a bit like his old self when rocketing home to take third lto. Likely found some form off the back of that performance and is on a very good mark to get another win. This isn’t a strong race and Star Of Atlantis can make the most of this today, particularly with the ever impressive Billy Loughnane aboard for the ride. Billy is in good form, has a good record here and has only ridden Star Of Atlantis once before and that was a convincing victory. Big player.
