Guard Duty enjoyed a fine season last year including back to back wins at Newbury and Windsor before signing off with a sub par run at Uttoxeter in March. Returned to action two starts ago at Newbury when second of fifteen in a warm race and then again ran nicely when third of twelve at Windsor lto. Should be fully fit now and firing on all cylinders and frankly looks the pick of the bunch in this lineup. Remains on a very workable mark and represents last years winning stable. Yard have a good record at the course and have a fortnightly strikerate of 31%. Talented Ben Jones aboard who has a 30% strikerate in the last two weeks also and has enjoyed plenty of success aboard Lavelle trained horses. Ground and trip are both suited and should win this.

Guard Duty looks the standout bet on the card and earns today’s NAP of the Day. He enjoyed a strong campaign last season with back-to-back wins before returning this term with two excellent placed efforts in warm handicaps at Newbury and Windsor.

Those runs suggest he’s now fully tuned up, and this race looks well within reach off his current mark. The Lavelle yard are in cracking form, Ben Jones continues to ride with real confidence, and conditions are ideal. Everything points towards a big performance.

Verdict: Hard to oppose – looks the one to beat.

Reason for Tip

Six year old Yorgunnabeplucky signed off last season with a chasing debut victory at Ffos Los. Returned after four months off in October and has been in the frame in all three starts so far, 243 is the form since return. First time going beyond the straight 3 miles today and whilst theres question marks, from what we’ve seen and on pedigree, should cope fine with it. Still quite unexposed over the fences and so further progression is not ruled out. Because of the short priced favourite, this boy is 10/1 and that looks to be a nice price. Should make the frame again here and has the added benefit of a world class jockey today in Sean Bowen who will give Yorgunnabeplucky every chance at putting in a winning performance here. Does need to be a little more fluid if taking this as it is a warm race, but is not without a chance here and despite the odds, would not be a shock winner.

Yorgunnabeplucky is taken as today’s Dark Horse at rewarding odds. He made a winning chase debut last season and has returned with three solid runs, hitting the frame each time. Still relatively unexposed over fences, he steps up in trip today, which could unlock further improvement.

The presence of Sean Bowen is a major positive, and while this is a competitive contest, he looks overpriced compared to the principals. If taking another step forward, he’s more than capable of getting involved.

Verdict: Big price for a progressive chaser – each-way appeal.

Unexposed five year old who showed plenty of ability in two maidens when second at Ffos Las and Warwick and despite fading into 6th lto at Ascot, remains open to plenty of progress. The run lto was in a very warm class 3 and this represents a return to a lower grade today and Dig Deep looks posed to lay down a big challenge. Trip and ground are fine and re[presents a strong yard who are ticking a lot of boxes recently. Stable jockey Ben Jones gets the ride and the pair are no stranger to Doncaster success. Won’t take much more than his previous performances to get the job done in this race and is taken to do just that.

Gwennie May Star is no stranger to winning and has done so at this track as recently as November. Generally a pretty clean hurdler and will make all the running in this 3m1f handicap. This isn’t a particularly tough race today and theres question marks over a lot of them so looks a ripe race for the picking for Gwennie May Star. From a shrewd and successful yard and they are enjoying a flying start to this campaign. Big positive today is the jockey, Sean Bowen takes over from the apprentice who’s ridden this horse the last twice. Bowen is a class act and one of the best in the business and enjoys regular success at this track and for the Murphys. Likely winner.

El Bufalo recently switched yards to the Faulkners and has been highly progressive since doing so with form of 0321 and looks ready to continue that here. Only gone up 2lb for the win last time and mark looks very winnable still. Has good course form here of 31 and an ok draw today from stall 5. Is coming up against Lazzar who is on a four timer but the drop in trip for that horse is not a positive of this mark and so taking them on. El Bufalo has talented jockey aboard in Billy Loughnane who has a fantastic record for the Faulkners. Big chance for this five year old to complete a quickfire Wolverhampton double.

Burke trained three year old Silky Lass has been a little slow to get going but has at least been progressive with form of 752. Wasn’t far away last time at Newcastle and a win looks imminent, good chance it’s today. The filly clearly has ability and with a little improvement this race is very much open and for the taking. Won’t mind the stall 6 draw with her running style and from a yard who does very well here with their youngsters. Pierre-Louis Jamin gets the ride and he’s running at a 20% strikerate recently and also enjoys similar rates of success when aboard a Burke horse. Big player.
