Reason for Tip

Five year old Storm Star completed a hattrick at Newcastle between January and April last year. Not seen for 8 months when making first start back in December and managed a respectable third over a reduced trip at 7f. Returns to the flat mile today and should be fully warmed up and primed for this. Has a plum draw from stall 1 and if he gets away nicely, will be very hard to peg back. Yard in great form and have a good record here, Oisin Murphy aboard and Storm Star looks set to win this race for the second year on the trot. Question marks over some others and with fitness now not being an issue for this five year old after blowing the cob webs away lto, should take this handily.

⭐ NAP of the Day

Storm Star (4.30 Newcastle)

Storm Star looks the standout on the card and earns the NAP of the Day at Newcastle.

The five-year-old completed a hat-trick at this track between January and April last year and clearly has a liking for the surface. After an eight-month absence, he returned in December over a reduced 7f and shaped well to finish a respectable third — that run should have blown away the cobwebs nicely.

Back up to his preferred mile, Storm Star is expected to be much sharper today. A plum draw in stall 1 is a big positive and, if he breaks cleanly, he could prove very hard to peg back.

Andrew Balding’s yard is in great form, has a strong Newcastle record, and Oisin Murphy taking the ride is another major tick in the box. With a few rivals carrying question marks and fitness now firmly on his side, Storm Star looks primed to land this for the second year running.

Reason for Tip

Six year old Moneygarrow won his points and bumper before being going into much deeper races. Notably contested a Listed race at Ascot when second in December 2024, followed by two grade 2’s at Chepstow and Cheltenham at the back end of last year. When returned to class 4 company lto at Warwick it was a formality and won by 7l and was never even asked a question that day. Back into Class 2 company today but still looks very well treated at this level. Is being sent over further today which could pose a question of him but has plenty of stamina in his pedigree and so should be a positive more than it’s a negative. Represents a top yard who are in fantastic form and has one of the best aboard in stable jockey Harry Skelton. Would be no surprise to see Moneygarrow land the honours in this race.

Useful young filly who has taken some forward strides since returning to the racing back in November. Form of 12 in those two races since and has been looking pretty strong at the figures. This is a deeper race today but she is relatively low mileage and remains open to lots of progression still. Trip is fine, last time she ran here she won and has an ok draw from stall 7 in this. Plenty to like and she’s from the strong and successful Balding yard and has world class jockey aboard in Oisin Murphy. This will take more winning than her previous runs, but she seems up to the task. Major player.

Bluey won nicely at Kempton back in October and two very creditable runs since with form of 42. Only three runs over fences so still open to improvement in this discipline and looks a good thing for this race today. Was beaten 5l by Hollygrove Cha Cha lto at Exeter, but that was over a sharper trip and Bluey will much prefer the extra 3f today and is also 6lb better off with that opponent compared to last time. Has also had wind surgery which could spark a little extra too. Yard in decent form and top booking in Ben Jones who has a good record here. Should be heavily involved and would not be a shock winner.

Four year old Arth’s Gold has form of 95636 and has not won a race in seven starts but he isn’t without ability. Showed promise at Southwell two starts ago when a close third and despite the drop in form lto, looks to be on a very dangerous mark. Has the added benefit of Tyrese Cameron aboard today who has a 3lb apprentice allowance making this four year olds chances even more appealing. Hannon yard has found a patch of good form and enjoying plenty of winners currently. With a little improvement Arth’s Gold can add to that list today from stall 4. Capable of better and should see that here.

This six year old was previously with Olly Murphy and enjoyed reasonable success winning on final start for the stable. Switched to the Walfords and made a winning debut back in October at Wetherby. Held to third place in two starts since but clearly remains on a very workable mark and likely to put in another big run today. Price is a little on the high side at 14s and very capable of outrunning those odds, particularly over a shorter trip which is arguably preferably. Will enjoy the ground today, tends to run best races on good to soft and there is plenty to like about the chances for Princesse Milania today. Jamie Hamilton aboard who is not enjoying the best form currently, but form always changes and he rides a horse with plenty of ability today. Decent chance at nice odds.

Princesse Milania (1.28 Market Rasen)

At bigger odds, Princesse Milania appeals as today’s Dark Horse at Market Rasen.

Formerly with Olly Murphy, this six-year-old won on her final start for that yard before switching to Micky Walford. She made an immediate impact by winning on stable debut at Wetherby in October and has followed up with two solid third-place finishes since.

She remains on a very workable mark and today’s slightly shorter trip looks a positive rather than a negative. The ground conditions should suit well, with her best form coming on good to soft, and the current price of 14/1 looks a touch generous.

Jamie Hamilton hasn’t been firing on all cylinders recently, but jockey form comes and goes — and he’s on a horse with the ability to seriously outrun her odds here.

Unexposed four-year-old who’s better than his bare form suggests. Ran a close third two starts ago and now finds himself on a dangerous mark. 3lb apprentice claim adds further appeal and the Hannon yard is among the winners.
