Graeme Todd Memorial Handicap Hurdle (Div 2) - Kelso

Rickety Gate

J: Callum Bewley T: N G Richards
Race Winner
15/8

Reason for Tip

10 year old Rickety Gate is a seasoned campaigner with five wins to his name. Returned from a break lto at Carlisle and despite evidently not being fully tuned up, finished a strong third that day. Should strip much fitter today for this Class 5 at Kelso and the return to Kelso is a major positive. Rickety Gate has ran here three times and won two of them and is currently on a mark just a shade over last winning mark and looks primed for a third Kelso win here. Yard have a good record here and are winning regularly at the moment too. Callum Bewley retains the ride from last time out and looking at this field of horses, it’s not a strong race and Rickety Gate looks the standout and should be winning this.

⭐ NAP of the Day

Rickety Gate

Kelso 12.10
15/8

Trainer: N G Richards
Jockey: Callum Bewley

Rickety Gate is a seasoned 10-year-old with five career wins, and shaped extremely well on seasonal return when finishing third at Carlisle despite clearly needing the run. He should strip much fitter now and the return to Kelso is a major positive.

He boasts a 2-from-3 record at this track, runs off a mark only just above his last winning rating, and faces a noticeably weak Class 5 field. The Richards yard are in form and Callum Bewley keeps the ride.

Why it’s the NAP:
Course specialist, fitter today, ideal mark, weak opposition. Strong winning chance.

Terries Royale

J: Mason Paetel T: M Appleby
Race Winner
14/1

Reason for Tip

Five year old from the Appleby yard who remains very nicely handicapped and 2lb below last winning mark. We saw a return to form last time out over C&D at the end of last month when finishing 3rd of 15. Versatile ground wise and the forecast soft ground should be no negative, the third lto was on heavy. In such a large field like this, a low draw at Doncaster is definitely advantageous and around 16% of runners win from stall 2, where Terries Royale is drawn. Both his previous runs at Doncaster were both strong and tends to run well here. Both yard and jockey in a good run of form and command respect currently. Terries Royale being this well handicapped is a solid contender from this draw and this is very wide open race. Given the large field, bookies paying around 5 places, and I would expect this five year old to occupy one of those, hopefully first at a nice price.

🎯 Dark Horse

Terries Royale

Doncaster 11.37
10/1

Trainer: M Appleby
Jockey: Mason Paetel

Terries Royale looks primed to outrun his price. He is 2lb below his last winning mark, and showed a huge return to form over this exact C&D when finishing 3rd of 15 last time out. His Doncaster record is rock-solid and he handles soft/heavy ground well.

Crucially, he is drawn in stall 2, which offers a strong statistical advantage in big-field Doncaster handicaps (approx. 16% win rate). Yard and jockey are both in sharp form.

Why it’s the Dark Horse:
Well handicapped, ideal draw, strong C&D profile. Major each-way player at double-figure odds.

Introducing William Hill Half A Mill Handicap Chase (GBB Race) - Aintree

Mambonumberfive

J: Ben Jones T: B Pauling
Race Winner
16/5

Reason for Tip

Very interesting runner is Mambonumberfive and whilst he has a break since April to contend with, could be a shade too good for this field here today. Has only had three starts in this country since moving over from France and on second start won the Grade 2 Adonis at Kempton in February. Well held in Aintree Grade 1 lto in April but that’s no major disappointment. This is a Class 3 here today and Mambonumberfive is on handicap debut in a very weak race compared to previous runs. Imposing horse from a stellar and inform yard who also receives a four year old allowance in this and runs off a very low mark considering achievements. Ben Jones aboard who’s in great form and if going well fresh, Mambonumberfive should take this.

La Belle Forest

J: D C Costello T: K R Burke
Race Winner
9/2

Reason for Tip

Rather weak Class 5 this 3.25 at Wolverhampton. The head of the market is a Boughey two year old who’s failed to really progress and placed on first four starts and looks vulnerable. La Belle Forest is from the Burke yard and was notably green on debut last month but is almost certainly going to be a big improver here on second start for a yard that are simply flying with two year olds this season. Has a plum draw in stall 1 and this nicely bred and well regarded Burke two year old could improve beyond this field and take this nicely. Big chance today.

Castle Cove

J: Jason Hart T: W J Haggas
Race Winner
31/5

Reason for Tip

Castle Cove won very nicely when coming from off the pace at Chester back in June this year. Has since contested three rather warm Class 2 Handicaps with form of 644. Despite how it reads, this four year old has shown progression and was only beaten 2 length into fourth last time out. Runs off the same mark here today in what’s arguably a cooler race and has a good draw from stall 4. We are likely to see more progression today and it wouldn’t take much of it to get Castle Cove over the line in first. Represents a top yard and has a good jockey aboard in Jason Hart. Lots to like today for this youngster and a win looks on the cards.

City Of Poets

J: S Foley T: J Tate
Race Winner
3/1

Reason for Tip

Tate trained three year old who isn’t the easiest to predict but has clear ability. Won back to back races earlier this year before a disappointing run at Sandown in July. Had August off and returned to the action at the end of September lto when the unpredictability again showed. However with that being said, he finished a very respectable second that day and seems to be on a good mark still. Has a good draw today and with a clear and uneventful start should be able to run prominent which is what he likes to do, best runs have all come from the front of the pack and if they give City Of Poets the space to get out front early, he may not be caught. Yard going very nicely at the moment with a 45% fortnightly strikerate and City Of Poets should feature heavily today.

🍀 Lucky 15 Tips Today

Horse Time Course Odds
Mambonumberfive 2.05 Aintree 11/4
La Belle Forest 3.25 Wolverhampton 4/1
Castle Cove 3.45 Doncaster 9/2
City Of Poets 6.30 Wolverhampton 3/1

🔍 Reasoning

Mambonumberfive
A classy French import who won the Grade 2 Adonis last season. Drops into a weak Class 3 on handicap debut and receives a valuable four-year-old allowance. Freshness the only question — if ready, he should win.

La Belle Forest
Green on debut but sure to improve massively for the flying Burke yard. Drawn in stall 1, ideal for Wolverhampton. Big chance in a weak race.

Castle Cove
Beaten just 2 lengths in a strong Class 2 last time, now down in grade and drawn well in stall 4. Form strongly suggests more to come.

City Of Poets
Talented but quirky. Best runs come when allowed to lead — drawn well today and likely to get that run style. Yard striking at 45% in the past fortnight.

Why this L15 works:
Class droppers, strong draws, improving profiles, and yards firing at high percentages.
