Match Overview

Birmingham host Ipswich Town at St Andrews in what promises to be a competitive early-season clash in the Championship. With both teams having contrasting campaigns last season, this matchup offers real value in the betting markets.

  • Birmingham come into this on the back of a stellar campaign in League 1, winning the league at a canter and also making the EFL Trophy Final.

  • Ipswich, newly relegated from the Premier League, will be looking to have a better season and will be looking to build early momentum.

Both teams have incredible amounts of talent across the squad with Birmingham making some fantastic signings for the level and Ipswich having already planned for Premier League relegation, have a team capable of going straight back up which should lead to some exciting attacking football.

Ipswich to Win or Draw

Double Chance
8/15

Reason for Tip

Despite being marginal underdogs in this tie, Ipswich have a ridiculously talented squad, even with the departures of Liam Delap and captain Sam Morsy. They have signed the talented Matusiwa from Stade Rennais for just under £10m, signed premier league legend Ashley Young and added Kipre, a powering centre back from Reims. Add to this, Omari Hutchinson, Jack Clarke, Sammie Szmodics who last time at this level was Championship top goalscorer…leaves a good blueprint not only for a successful season, but also for  the double chance here

Both Teams to Score – Yes

Both Teams To Score
3/4

Reason for Tip

Not much else to say really bar these two sides being elite level scorers. Birmingham spent heavy last summer and bought in Jay Stansfield for a record fee at the time and have since supplemented their attacking line further. Ipswich last time out at this level, were free scoring and while they have a question mark who starts up front for them, the surrounding players provide a real output. BTTS here seems realistic.

Birmingham goalkeeper to make 2 or more saves

Goalkeeper Saves
3/10

Reason for Tip

For the reasons specified in our previous selection, both teams have that attacking prowess. 2 shots on target/2 saves isnt too much to ask for with both these sides.

Ipswich goalkeeper to make 2 or more saves

Goalkeeper Saves
1/4

Reason for Tip

Again, for the reasons above, there should be attacking play and shots on target as both teams look to leave their mark on the opening weekend. 2 goalkeeper saves on either side provide us with a good market.

Reason for Tip

According to MatchStat, total corners in matches involving Ipswich Town averaged 10.85 per match last season. For Birmingham City, their matches averaged about 9.73 total corners. Over 8.5 corners gives us a good odd for the builder but also strong statistics.
