Reason for Tip

Three runner race here and with Wicksey having to defy a further 6lb rise and Galilean returning from a long absence, it looks a race that Magnetude is set to take. Progressive in maidens before winning handicap debut lto at Wolverhampton over this trip and only gone up 4lb. Looks to still be very much well in and this progressive youngster doesn’t look like one who’s going to be done and dusted already. Has course experience from two starts ago and is fully fit and primed for another big run. Represents a strong yard with a great course record and has a solid jockey aboard in Luke Morris who retains the ride from the win last time. Magnetude looks a very likely winner under the question marks over the other runners.

Magnetude looks the standout selection on today’s card and is taken as the NAP of the Day.

This progressive three-year-old made a winning handicap debut at Wolverhampton last time out and has only been raised 4lb for that success. With clear improvement still to come, this looks a very manageable mark.

This is a small-field race, and with both rivals having question marks — Wicksey carrying a penalty and Galilean returning from a layoff — Magnetude looks the most solid option.

With course experience, race fitness, and a strong yard/jockey combination, he looks set to go in again.

Verdict: Very likely winner.

Reason for Tip

Grand National time where the large field run 4m2f over the fences at Aintree and the race needs no introduction. There’s plenty of value to be found in this race and it’s thrown up plenty a big price win and place over the years and this year Marble Sands at 50/1 looks a nice price. Has ran here previously and completed the trip in the Topham a year ago. Faded in that race and from what we’ve seen since, the trip was just too short. Has become a stayer of late with strong runs in a grade 3 at Cheltenham in November when winning and again in a grade 3 at Wetherby lto when second. Remains unexposed at these marathon distances and goes the furthest he’s gone today. Is a largely clean jumper which is important here and from what we’ve seen at the back end of last year, further seems to produce better and better so has a good chance of staying this trip too on suited ground. From a tiny yard in Ireland which adds to the story and fairytale and whilst winning looks a tall order, with the amount of places on offer even a place at this price is a fantastic return. Kielan Woods gets the ride.

🎯 Dark Horse

Marble Sands (4:00 Aintree) (50/1)

The Grand National always throws up value, and Marble Sands fits the bill perfectly as today’s outsider.

At a big price, this Irish raider has proven stamina and arrives in strong form, having won a Grade 3 at Cheltenham before finishing second in another at Wetherby.

Crucially, he’s already shown he can handle Aintree’s fences, completing the Topham over shorter last year. Today’s extended trip looks much more suited based on recent performances.

With plenty of places on offer, Marble Sands represents excellent each-way value.

Verdict: Big price, big chance of hitting the frame.

Reason for Tip

Six year old Scorpio Rising has really come into his own in the last 7 months or so and has completed a four timer which culminated in success in the Grade 3 EBF Final at Sandown last month. Has been very much progressive and whilst up in grade today, remains open to progress and could play a leading role here. Trip is his usual ideal 2m4f and and the ground is perfectly suited. Surged clear in the final furlong in the EBF on deeper ground than this and the slightly firmer conditions today are of benefit rather than hinderance. Represents a fantastic yard having a brilliant year and currently running at a 33% strikerate recently. Top jockey aboard in Sean Bowen needs little introduction. Yard and jockey do not have a good record at Aintree which is the only real dousing of the flame but if Scorpio Rising improves further he is likely to be involved regardless of their history here. Good chance.

Reason for Tip

Dual winner over in France before moving across the channel and residing with Venetia Williams. Made stable debut in December 2024 and won readily. Was off for a year before returning in December 2025 and romping up at Uttoxeter. Handicapper has hit him with a fair rise but there still appears to be roof above this mark for this six year old and we know he goes very well fresh so the 4 month break is no concern at all. Further rainfall would be beneficial as unraced on firmer than soft in this country so far but will stay the trip and has a good jockey aboard in stables Charlie Deutsch and Authodidacte looks set for another big run and bids for hattrick today. Good chance.

Completed a double at Salisbury and Chester last June over this trip and then contested two much warmer races to less effect at Chester and Goodwood. Has not been seen since July last year but drops right back in grade today in suited conditions and is capable of a big run in this if going well fresh. Yard can tune them up and have an ok record with horses returning from breaks so it’s not an instant negative and Patagonia Girl remains unexposed and open to improvement still. Mark isn’t damning and she might be 6/1 but has a very real chance at returning to winning ways today with Oisin Murphy aboard. Yard and jockey combine very well together historically and have a 50% winrate together at this course. Question mark looms over freshness, but if on song can take this.

Consistent four year old from the respected Bethell yard who has form of 22441 since the back end of last year. Defied mark to win at Wolverhampton lto and would be no surprise to see him defy this new mark on return to Southwell today. Does have a wide draw from stall 8 but this horse ideally wants to be sat mid to rear so no great concerns there and we will no doubt see another late run over the top come the final furlong today. Yard in great form at the moment and have won 50% of races in the last two weeks. Callum Rodriguez equally impressive at the stats recently and the partnership has a very impressive record at this course together. Kirkdale could be a tough nut to crack today for the rest of the field.
