Caliban

J: Oisin Murphy T: A M Balding
Race Winner
1/1

Reason for Tip

Progressive four year old son of the Sea The Moon from the Balding yard who has looked better and better each time we’ve seen him. Form of 4421 and the win lto at Kempton in a Class 3 was a great performance. Unlikely we’ve reached the veiling of this youngster yet and this looks a very winnable handicap debut for Caliban. Has ran at this course before and won over this trip lto. Yard have a 32% strikerate in the last 60 days and have shown no signs of slowing down. Oisin Murphy retains the ride from lto and that’s always a strong booking. Looks a very winnable race and i’m not sure anything can really threaten Caliban today, should be the winner.

⭐ NAP of the Day

Caliban – 7:15 Southwell (1/1)

Our NAP of the Day is the progressive Caliban from the Andrew Balding stable.

The four-year-old son of Sea The Moon has steadily improved with each run, producing form figures of 4421 before an impressive victory at Kempton in a Class 3 race last time out.

That performance suggested there is still plenty more to come, and this handicap debut looks a very good opportunityfor him to continue his upward trajectory.

With champion jockey Oisin Murphy retaining the ride and the Balding yard operating at a 32% strike rate in the last 60 days, Caliban looks extremely hard to oppose.

Mustang Du Breuil

J: James Bowen T: N J Henderson
Race Winner
25/2

Reason for Tip

Cheltenham Juvenile Handicap time and one who looks a nice price at 12/1 is four year old Mustang Du Breuil from the Henderson yard. Very lightly raced and unexposed and won his debut race in France before coming over here to the Henderson yard. Won stable debut at Doncaster with relative ease in February. Third lto at Kempton in the Grade 2 Novice but at argument can be made that he wasn’t pushed for that, all they needed was to qualify for this race which they did. Looks a smart jumper who’s getting better each race and represents a yard with plenty of festival success over the years who are also rather in form at the moment. James Bowen has been aboard both UK rides and retains that here today. Will be fine on the forecasted good to soft ground and will see out this trip happily. Looks to have a strong engine which is vital for the famous Cheltenham hill and is a very interesting runner in this. Looks to have every chance at a nice price.

🎯 Dark Horse

Mustang Du Breuil – 2:40 Cheltenham (12/1)

For those looking for a Cheltenham Festival outsider, Mustang Du Breuil is an intriguing contender at double-figure odds.

The lightly raced four-year-old started his career in France before joining the Nicky Henderson yard, where he impressed on his British debut at Doncaster in February.

He followed that with a respectable third in a Grade 2 at Kempton, and there is a strong argument he wasn’t fully extended there as connections simply needed to qualify for this race.

A fluent jumper who continues to improve, Mustang Du Breuil could easily outrun his odds and make a strong late challenge up the famous Cheltenham hill.

Old Park Star

J: N de Boinville T: N J Henderson
Race Winner
5/2

Reason for Tip

The opening race of the 2026 Cheltenham festival and the one who looks the one to beat in the Supreme is six year old Old Park Star from the Henderson yard. After a slow start for Paul Nicholls in bumpers has won his last three races for new yard and did so impressively and progressively which culminated in the win lto in the Grade 2 at Haydock. Remains open to lots of further progress and represents a yard who’ve had plenty of success in this race previously with five victories with horses such as Altior, Shishkin and Constitution Hill. Both trip and ground are very suited and on paper Old Park Star is the one to beat. Related to festival winners and has become a very smart jumper of late. Major player and 5/2 looks a little overpriced i think and so he’s taken to get the job done.

Wind Your Neck In

J: Jonathan England T: S England
Race Winner
3/1

Reason for Tip

Frustrating seven year old who is now 0-13 over hurdles but has been knocking on the door of late with back to back second placed finishes, both over the same trip as today. Looks likely to convert soon and this race looks a good chance. Ground is perfect, it’s a relatively weak race and Wind Your Neck In looks well treated still. It’s the yard and jockeys only race at the course today and whilst they aren’t exactly firing in the winners currently, have won at this course. Very likely this horse is bang in the mix again and a chance is taken on him finally getting over the line in first place. Big player.

Iroko

J: Jonjo O'Neill Jr. T: O Greenall & J Guerriero
Race Winner
7/1

Reason for Tip

The 2023 Martin Pipe winner Iroko generally runs well at Cheltenham and has proven himself to be a worthy contestant on a number of occasions. A very respectable fourth in last years Grand National, this versatile eight year old always gives his all, has a fantastic engine and will absolutely stay the 3m1f. Will still have plenty in the tank come the hill and would not be surprised to see him storm up it in the closing stages similar to his win in 2023. Has to be taken seriously off this mark and will relish the forecasted ground. Won lto at Ascot and is in good form. Jonjo O’Neill aboard as usual. Tough race, but Iroko is a tough cookie and there is plenty of positives for him today and has a good chance at a nice price.

🍀 Lucky 15 Tips Today

Old Park Star – 1:20 Cheltenham (5/2)

The Supreme Novices’ Hurdle opens the 2026 Cheltenham Festival and Old Park Star looks a major contender for the powerful Nicky Henderson yard.

After an underwhelming start in bumpers for Paul Nicholls, the six-year-old has thrived since switching stables, winning his last three races in impressive fashion.

His most recent victory came in a Grade 2 contest at Haydock, where he travelled strongly and jumped with real fluency. The performance suggested he still has plenty of improvement to come.

Henderson has an exceptional record in this race with previous winners including Altior, Shishkin and Constitution Hill, and Old Park Star looks capable of adding his name to that list. With the trip and ground conditions ideal, he looks the one they all have to beat.

Wind Your Neck In – 2:18 Sedgefield (3/1)

Despite still searching for his first hurdles win, Wind Your Neck In has been knocking firmly on the door with back-to-back second place finishes over this same trip.

The seven-year-old now drops into a very winnable race, and conditions look perfect for him to finally get his head in front.

While the stable hasn’t been firing winners recently, this is their only runner at the track today, suggesting connections believe he has a strong chance.

If producing a similar performance to his last two runs, Wind Your Neck In should be right in the mix again.

Iroko – 3:20 Cheltenham (6/1)

Iroko is no stranger to success at Cheltenham and could be set for another big performance on the biggest stage.

Winner of the 2023 Martin Pipe Handicap Hurdle, the tough and consistent eight-year-old always runs his race at this track.

He finished a respectable fourth in last year’s Grand National, proving both stamina and class, and returned to winning ways at Ascot last time out, showing he remains in excellent form.

With proven Cheltenham credentials and a strong finishing style that suits the famous hill, Iroko looks a serious contender and offers solid value at around 6/1.

Legendsoftheland – 7:30 Wolverhampton (7/2)

At Wolverhampton this evening, Legendsoftheland looks well placed to capitalise on a favourable draw and improving form.

The four-year-old has shown clear progress since undergoing wind and gelding operations, finishing second and third on his last two starts.

Today’s drop in trip combined with stall 3 should allow him to secure a perfect position early on, which is often crucial around this track.

With Finley Marsh riding in strong form and plenty of course experience to rely on, Legendsoftheland looks primed to strike.

Tipmans's Final Word

Day one of the Cheltenham Festival always delivers excitement, and this year looks no different with several fascinating contests.

Old Park Star looks a major player in the Supreme, while Iroko brings proven Cheltenham form into a competitive handicap.

Away from the festival, Caliban stands out as our NAP of the Day, and Legendsoftheland looks well placed to strike at Wolverhampton.

For those searching for festival value, Mustang Du Breuil could be the dark horse to keep onside at a nice price.

Good luck and enjoy the racing!
