Reason for Tip

Three year old Hassaleh is a very nicely bred Night Of Thunder filly from the Appleby yard who is capable of improving greatly from the rather green debut run at Windsor. Not seen since that run in June last year and make course debut at Newmarket today and there has already been market confidence from 11/8 into 5/4. Well drawn in stall 3, open to plenty of further progression and is one of the stand out horses in this field today. Represents a top yard and has a fantastic jockey aboard in William Buick. Yard have a fantastic record here and are also running at a 45% strikerate in the last two weeks. Buick and Appleby have a 30% win rate when pairing at this track. Likely winner today.

Sparkling Duke

Sparkling Duke has really found his feet of late, winning two of his last three starts, both of which came at this course. One win was over 2m4f and the other over 3m, so today’s 2m7f trip looks absolutely ideal.

He’s been hit with a 7lb rise for his latest success, but that win was achieved with plenty in hand and he still looks capable of defying the handicapper. Conditions hold no fears and the booking of Ben Jones, who has an excellent record at Ffos Las and is riding at the top of his game, is a big positive.

If reproducing anything like his latest run, Sparkling Duke looks the most likely winner on the card.

Reason for Tip

Asmeralda is one of the most unexposed horses in this race with only one run so far. That debut was at Kempton before Christmas and won nicely. Beautifully bred Night of Thunder filly who is potentially a very nice horse in the making. Will be fine off the break and both trip and ground are suitable. Well drawn in stall 4 and represents a yard who’ve won this six times including last year. Oisin Murphy booking is notable and he has a good record for the Gosdens. This filly has a big chance today and a rather nice price too. Should be heavily involved and certainly not written out of winning this.

Reason for Tip

Eight year old Tara Iti was a smart horse a couple of years ago and notched up no less than eight wins over hurdles for the Moore and Owen yards but has been off the boil for a little while and now resides with the Brennan yard and has yet to make an impact for new yard. However, as a result Tara Iti is very well handicapped and well below highest winning mark and the mark has become a little hard to ignore. Can act over this trip and the ground is in her favour. This really is a wide open race and the change of track to Hereford may be enough to spark a little revival. Good apprentice aboard in Oscar Palmer who has notched multiple wins lately and with a bit of fortune Tara Iti looks capable of placing off this mark at a big price and a win would be a bonus.

Shorten Sassy

Jockey: Murray Dodd

Shorten Sassy is yet to get his head in front, but his recent run at Hereford suggested he’s heading the right way. He finished a respectable third last time out and now runs off 1lb lower, with a further 7lb taken off thanks to Murray Dodd’s apprentice allowance.

That leaves him looking very well treated on adjusted figures. He stays the trip well, is generally sound over his obstacles, and the Rowley yard are operating at a 20% strike-rate over the last fortnight, which is solid for a smaller operation.

At a price, Shorten Sassy could finally get off the mark and looks a big each-way player.

Hannon trained horse at the head of the market but looks a little vulnerable and so a chance is taken on Burke trained three year old Different Opinions. Ran well on debut before regressing slightly on second start lto at Southwell. However, on pedigree this drop in trip is a big positive and looks a likely improver today. Well drawn in stall 4 and the Burke yard have a very strong record at this course, particularly with their three year olds. Pierre-Louis retains the ride and he is riding well at the moment along with having a good record for this yard at this course. Lots of positives today and Different Opinions looks to have a real chance here at a nice price.

Reason for Tip

Craven Stakes time at Newmarket and Hark Mountain is an impressive Ballydoyle colt who’s not really put a foot wrong last year as a two year old. Form of 5111 including the Group 1 Futurity at Doncaster and very much the form pick for this race. Does need to answer the fresh question mark but the yard have a good record and know how to prime horses returning from a break. Trip should still be fine as a three year old and whilst best form thus far has been on testing ground, unexposed on good and on pedigree doesn’t look a negative. Well drawn, very much in form and progressive and represents a major yard with a world class jockey aboard in Ryan Moore. Leading player and looks to have an excellent chance.

Three year old Sailor Batt might be a maiden still after 9 runs but has gone close on a number of occasions and looks primed for a big run on return to turf today. Form this year is 253 and does act on grass so no reason he won’t be heavily involved again today. On a very workable mark and both ground and trip are ideally suited. This is not a strong race and won’t take a great deal of winning. Yard probably overdue a winner and have booked an inform jockey in Connor Beasley. Sailor Batt is unlikely to be far away here and looks capable of taking this.

Reason for Tip

Hattrick seeking Sherborne comes into today in very good form. Has looked better and better over fences of late and easily defied a 7lb rise to win again in fine style lto at Ascot. Has gone up another 8lb but in the form this 10yo is in, hard to discount frankly. Ideal trip on perfect ground and Sherborne looks set to produce another big run. This race is a little warmer than recent ones but returns to a course he’s ran well at previously and for a trainer who have a very good record here. In form and talented jockey aboard in Freddie Gingell who has won more than a third of his rides in the last two weeks and also boasts a 30% strikerate at this track. Yes the mark has gone up again, but the hattrick is very much on and Sherborne is taken to get the job done again.

Lightly raced and progressive over hurdles, Galivanted has shown promise in both starts over obstacles. After finishing fourth at Ludlow, he took a nice step forward to win at Musselburgh last time out over 2m.

Today’s trip at Huntingdon is very similar and the forecast good to soft ground should suit, having already proven effective on it. While the market favourite Thewoodcorner commands respect, these conditions look ideal for Galivanted.

Derham’s yard are flying, Paul O’Brien retains the ride, and the trainer–jockey combination boasts outstanding strike-rates at this track. Everything points to a big run.

Uptown Dandy

2.30 Ffos Las – 11/4

Jockey: Ben Jones

Uptown Dandy remains largely unexposed over hurdles, with just three starts to his name. He finished second in both of his first two runs in decent novice company before making an error and being pulled up last time out.

That run can be forgiven, and today he drops into a weaker Class 4, back over the trip that suited him earlier in the season. Heavy ground is forecast and should be no issue, having shown promise on testing surfaces in bumpers.

From a strong yard and with Ben Jones booked, Uptown Dandy looks well placed to bounce back if error-free.

Snapius

4.15 Huntingdon – 6/1
Trainer: James Owen
Jockey: Alex Chadwick

Snapius has found life tougher since his mark increased, but recent signs have been more encouraging. He finished second last time out after dropping in class and now runs 3lb below the mark he won off in December 2024.

He remains in the same grade today, which is a positive, and this looks an open race. The Owen yard have a solid record at Huntingdon, and when combined with Alex Chadwick here, they’ve struck at 29% over the past two years.

Well treated and competitive at this level, Snapius should be firmly in the mix.

Francky Blue

4.30 Ffos Las – 4/1
Trainer: Evan Williams
Jockey: Conor Ring

Francky Blue’s form figures don’t immediately catch the eye, but context is important. His previous runs came in stronger company, and today’s handicap debut looks far more realistic off what appears a workable opening mark.

He’s likely to be ridden positively, heavy ground should suit on pedigree, and his better runs have come on left-handed tracks, which is another plus at Ffos Las.

While yard and jockey form isn’t red-hot, Francky Blue is well worth consideration in this weaker contest.
