Reason for Tip

Three year old who made debut in a strong Newbury maiden back in July last year and the form of that race has worked out well on a number of occasions since. Went down a beaten favourite lto at Haydock last August and has not been seen since. This race is a weaker affair than both of those runs and Moonshine is very nicely bred and looks set for a winning return today. Question marks over the absence, but yard have a decent record with horses going fresh and they also are no stranger to course success here. If going well fresh and progressing as she should, Moonshine will be very tough to beat today. George Downing gets the ride. Moonshine is getting weight from most of these and her form is some of the strongest on offer. Would be surprised if she wasn’t running out the winner today.

Moonshine is taken to be the NAP for Wednesday. She showed plenty of ability in a strong Newbury maiden on debut and was a beaten favourite at Haydock last summer in another competitive race. This contest looks noticeably weakerthan either of those runs.

She returns from a break, but the Walker yard does well with horses going fresh, and she’s very well bred. Receiving weight from most of her rivals and holding some of the strongest form on offer, Moonshine looks primed for a winning return if ready to go.

Wide open race here in the 6.40 at Kempton and Tronido looks a bit of a dark horse for this. Has won all four of his race from the front and making all, including a quickfire double last summer. Has suffered on last three starts from the handicappers increases but drops back to 0-70 company today for the first time in a few races and this mark looks a decent chance. Biggest positive is the draw in stall 2, has not had the run of the races recently but this draw is ideal for Tronido to get out front where he wants to be and off this mark in a relatively open race, could be making all again or if not going down a nice priced place. Paddy Bradley back aboard who has won on Tronido before and will know the tactics well and likely to get him frontrunning if possible. Reasonable chance considering the price and an interesting runner today.

Tronido is an interesting Dark Horse at a big price. All four of his career wins have come when making the running, and today’s stall 2 draw gives him a great chance to get back to those front-running tactics.

He drops back into 0–70 company for the first time in a while and looks well treated on old form. Paddy Bradley knows the horse well and is likely to be positive from the gates. In a wide-open race, Tronido could easily outrun his odds and offers solid each-way appeal.

Seven year old who has shown great improvement this year with three wins in last five starts, including lto at Wolverhampton a week ago. The slight drop back in trip today to 1m4f is of no concern, has won over this trip as recently at January and he’s well drawn in stall 4. Has incurred a penalty for the success last time but seems his ceiling is very much unknown still and particularly at 1m4f+ he looks a force to be reckoned with. Represents a strong yard who have a good record here and a jockey change today to Simon Walker is no negative. Walker has a strong AW flat record. Race isn’t overly strong on paper and Knight Of Magic looks very capable of defying the penalty and going in again here.

Disappointing on pointing debut over in Ireland when weakening into seventh. However, after almost 18months off returned to action and won in nice style. Since picked up for a tidy £48,000.00 and now resides with the Murphy yard. Stable and hurdling debut today and this six year old is in good hands, yard knows how to ready their debutants and Tap Tap Shamie could have a big say today. Most unexposed horse in the field and open to any amount of progression. Yard have a strong record at this course and have booked the services of one of the most talented jockeys around in Sean Bowen. When yard and jockey combine here at Wincanton, in the last two years they’ve won 60% of races. Nice price for this hurdles debutant here and if getting round cleanly, should be featuring come the final obstacle.

Six year old who had struggled a little to find consistency and get the job finished and form prior to lto of 7235 shows that. Stable opted for a tongue tie lto at Ffos Las and that seemed to have a very positive effect and The Hawkstonian ran out a ready winner that day. Tongue tie retained for this and the trip is the same as last time on similar ground which will suit. Looks capable of progressing from that win in very similar conditions today. Slightly tougher race today on paper but smaller field which is advantageous. Yard remain in very good form and stable jockey Ben Jones retains the ride. Yard have a strikerate north of 40% here and when Ben Jones is aboard, that percentage goes to 75%. Big chance for The Hawkstonian at this track today.

Poor debut at Southwell for Helga when a remote 8th place, however improved massively and won second start comfortably over C&D lto in a relatively warm Class 3 maiden. Most unexposed horse in the field and this three year old is open to plenty of further progress. Yard are going well at the moment and no strangers to Kempton success, including in this race last year with a horse who had a very similar profile to Helga. Callum Hutchinson gets the ride today. This race has a couple of useful looking types in it but Helga if building on that performance lto will take some catching today and it’s not unusual for the Balding horses to take quite big leaps in early races. Major player.

Knight Of Magic has been a revelation this year, landing three wins from his last five starts, including a comfortable success at Wolverhampton just a week ago. The slight drop back to 1m4f is no issue, having already won over this trip in January, and he’s well drawn in stall 4.

Despite carrying a penalty, his ceiling still looks some way off being reached, particularly at this distance on the all-weather. The yard does well here and Simon Walker is a positive booking. In a race that doesn’t look overly strong on paper, Knight Of Magic looks more than capable of going in again.

Tap Tap Shamie

1.50 Wincanton – 6/1
Trainer: Olly Murphy | Jockey: Sean Bowen

After a disappointing point-to-point debut in Ireland, Tap Tap Shamie returned from a long absence to win in nice style and was subsequently picked up for £48,000. He now makes his stable and hurdling debut for Olly Murphy, a yard well known for readying debutants.

This six-year-old is the most unexposed horse in the field and open to plenty of progression. The booking of Sean Bowen is eye-catching, and the Murphy/Bowen combination boasts an excellent record at Wincanton. At a fair price, Tap Tap Shamie looks capable of having a big say if jumping fluently.

The Hawkstonian

2.30 Bangor-On-Dee – 9/2
Trainer: Ben Pauling | Jockey: Ben Jones

The Hawkstonian showed a marked improvement last time out when fitted with a first-time tongue tie, running out a convincing winner at Ffos Las. That headgear is retained today, and conditions look very similar with trip and ground to suit once again.

This is a slightly tougher race on paper, but the smaller field is a positive, and Ben Pauling’s yard remains in excellent form. Ben Jones keeps the ride, and the Pauling/Jones combination has an outstanding strike-rate at this track. Another bold showing is expected.

Helga

7.40 Kempton – 4/1
Trainer: Andrew Balding | Jockey: Callum Hutchinson

Helga improved dramatically from a modest debut to win comfortably over C&D last time out in a warm Class 3 maiden. That performance marked her down as a filly with plenty of upside, and she remains the most unexposed runner in the field.

The Balding yard is in good form and has a strong record in this type of race at Kempton. With Callum Hutchinson aboard and further improvement likely, Helga looks a major player despite facing a couple of useful rivals.
