Reason for Tip

Talented three year old from the Appleby yard who is beautifully bred and despite being green, left them for dead on debut at Southwell in February. That was no slouch of a race either with some nicely bred youngsters including a Frankel colt and they were no match for Shabab Al Ahli. Hold entries in the Dante and Derby and looks set for a big year. Plenty of scope and progression also very likely, trip is in ideal range and represents a top yard with a fantastic jockey aboard in Buick. Yard win very often at this course and Buick has a 44% fortnightly strikerate. They combine very successfully together at this course and this youngster is very much the one to beat today. Very likely winner.

Moonshine

Trainer: Ed Walker | Jockey: George Downing

Moonshine is taken to be the NAP for Wednesday. She showed plenty of ability in a strong Newbury maiden on debut and was a beaten favourite at Haydock last summer in another competitive race. This contest looks noticeably weakerthan either of those runs.

She returns from a break, but the Walker yard does well with horses going fresh, and she’s very well bred. Receiving weight from most of her rivals and holding some of the strongest form on offer, Moonshine looks primed for a winning return if ready to go.

Reason for Tip

Pretty open race here in the 3.30 at Ayr and one who’s a big price but has some promise is veteran 12yo Dubai Days. Very effective here at Ayr with five wins from eleven starts and does his best running at this time of year historically. Not disgraced at all in recent performances and whilst this is a warmish race, there is big question marks over a lot of this field and Dubai Days has a little less to answer than some. Effective on this ground and at this trip and looks a massive price at 20/1. More than capable of outrunning that at this course and might do just that. Outside chance, but very much a chance nonetheless.

Tronido is an interesting Dark Horse at a big price. All four of his career wins have come when making the running, and today’s stall 2 draw gives him a great chance to get back to those front-running tactics.

He drops back into 0–70 company for the first time in a while and looks well treated on old form. Paddy Bradley knows the horse well and is likely to be positive from the gates. In a wide-open race, Tronido could easily outrun his odds and offers solid each-way appeal.

Seven year old Castle Ivers hasn’t been seen since November 2024 when he won a large field maiden at Warwick. Has contested Grade 2’s before and returns to action for handicap debut in a rather weak looking race. Obviously has the large absence to overcome but yard have a decent record with returners and have spoken highly of Castle Ivers in recent weeks. Sean Bowen aboard is always a positive, particularly when riding for the Murphy yard. If Castle Ivers does go well fresh today in suited conditions, will be very hard to beat and he’s taken to do just that.

Three year old Scheffler made debut last month at Lingfield and despite evident greenness on show, ran a decent race in the end and finished third. Entitled to come on a great deal for that run and is one of the most unexposed horses in the field. Drops back a furlong on trip today which on pedigree looks the right move and the only real obvious negative today is the wide draw from stall 9. Solid jockey booking will help with that and Finlay Marsh fits that bill. Yard has a good record at this course and when Finlay rides for them at this track, they enjoy a 23% strikerate together. Improvement likely and a win looks on the cards.

Seven year old No More Bolero returns to the flat today after a winter over the obstacles. Strong performances recently with a win at Ludlow and third at Sedgefield lto in December. Does go well fresh and is well treated for flat return today based on his close call at Chester last year. This is not a strong race and it won’t take a great deal of winning. No More Bolero will see out the trip with no concern and acts on this ground. From a respected and successful yard with a good jockey aboard in Saffie. Owen yard have a 20% strikerate here in the last two years and No More Bolero is taken to get the job done on return to the flat in a very ordinary race.

Versatile six year old from the Tickle stable who has notched up wins both on the flat and over hurdles. Has ran well over the obstacles the last twice with a win at Taunton and close third lto at Plumpton. Increased mark does ask a question but Taritino is an inform horse who can’t be discounted. Trip and ground are both positives and in form Bryan Carver gets the ride. Bryan has a good track record and boasts a 33% strikerate in the last two weeks. If Taratino can produce another strong performance today should go very close again and would not be a surprise winner.

Knight Of Magic

1.12 Lingfield – 9/4
Trainer: James Owen | Jockey: Simon Walker

Knight Of Magic has been a revelation this year, landing three wins from his last five starts, including a comfortable success at Wolverhampton just a week ago. The slight drop back to 1m4f is no issue, having already won over this trip in January, and he’s well drawn in stall 4.

Despite carrying a penalty, his ceiling still looks some way off being reached, particularly at this distance on the all-weather. The yard does well here and Simon Walker is a positive booking. In a race that doesn’t look overly strong on paper, Knight Of Magic looks more than capable of going in again.

Tap Tap Shamie

1.50 Wincanton – 6/1
Trainer: Olly Murphy | Jockey: Sean Bowen

After a disappointing point-to-point debut in Ireland, Tap Tap Shamie returned from a long absence to win in nice style and was subsequently picked up for £48,000. He now makes his stable and hurdling debut for Olly Murphy, a yard well known for readying debutants.

This six-year-old is the most unexposed horse in the field and open to plenty of progression. The booking of Sean Bowen is eye-catching, and the Murphy/Bowen combination boasts an excellent record at Wincanton. At a fair price, Tap Tap Shamie looks capable of having a big say if jumping fluently.

The Hawkstonian

2.30 Bangor-On-Dee – 9/2
Trainer: Ben Pauling | Jockey: Ben Jones

The Hawkstonian showed a marked improvement last time out when fitted with a first-time tongue tie, running out a convincing winner at Ffos Las. That headgear is retained today, and conditions look very similar with trip and ground to suit once again.

This is a slightly tougher race on paper, but the smaller field is a positive, and Ben Pauling’s yard remains in excellent form. Ben Jones keeps the ride, and the Pauling/Jones combination has an outstanding strike-rate at this track. Another bold showing is expected.

Helga

7.40 Kempton – 4/1
Trainer: Andrew Balding | Jockey: Callum Hutchinson

Helga improved dramatically from a modest debut to win comfortably over C&D last time out in a warm Class 3 maiden. That performance marked her down as a filly with plenty of upside, and she remains the most unexposed runner in the field.

The Balding yard is in good form and has a strong record in this type of race at Kempton. With Callum Hutchinson aboard and further improvement likely, Helga looks a major player despite facing a couple of useful rivals.
