Small field four runner handicap here in the 3.50 and Denemethy from the O’Briens looks the stand out pick. Consistent over the fences and the trip and ground are both ideally suited here. Ran a good race when fourth in a very warm Class 2 race at Sandown lto and the winner has since followed up in a grade 2. Drops back to Class 4 company today for the first time March last year and looks very dangerous at this level. Top weight for a reason, but is taken to defy it and win this nicely. Yard has a good record and jockey Burke has a very good winrate in the last few weeks. They’ve also combined here at this course to win previously. Denemethy should be a level above these today and should run out a fairly comfortable winner.

Denemethy looks a standout in this small-field handicap chase and is taken as today’s NAP of the Day. The Fergal O’Brien-trained runner has been competing in far stronger company and drops back into Class 4 company for the first time since March last year.

He ran a solid race when fourth in a warm Class 2 at Sandown last time out, a race that has already been well franked with the winner following up in Grade 2 company. The trip and ground are ideal, and while he shoulders top weight, that looks fully justified on form.

Jockey J.J. Burke has been riding with confidence in recent weeks and has already partnered winners with this yard at Leicester. In a four-runner field, Denemethy looks a level above his rivals and should take plenty of beating.

NAP verdict: Strong class drop, ideal conditions, standout form.

Wide open race here in the opener at Southwell today and with a lot of bookies paying four places, there is plenty of value on offer. One who looks a little overpriced and a bit of a dark horse is six year old Hale End from the Dods yard. Has ran at this track the last twice and good performances on both starts including a win. Missed the break lto and looks on a very workable mark still. Decent draw in stall 5 and has a jockey upgrade today to the in form Daniel Muscutt. Muscutt consistently finding winners and enjoying a 30% strikerate in the last 30 days. Hale End will prefer a strong pace and theres a couple in this lineup that will give him that today. Big chance today at a nice price too.

There looks to be real each-way value in this wide-open Southwell contest, and Hale End makes plenty of appeal as today’s Dark Horse.

The six-year-old has a solid record at Southwell, including a recent course win, and can be forgiven his latest effort where he missed the break yet still wasn’t beaten far. He remains on a very workable mark and gets a notable jockey upgrade with Daniel Muscutt taking the ride.

Muscutt has been in flying form, operating at around a 30% strike-rate over the last 30 days, and a strong pace should suit Hale End perfectly. With several bookmakers paying four places, this looks a big price for a horse with proven course form.

Dark Horse verdict: Course specialist, strong pace setup, generous odds.

Five year old who point his point before being sent over the hurdles for the first time two starts ago after moving to the Lacey stable. Progressive on both hurdling starts with form of 53 and the race lto at Southwell was a tougher assignment than this today. Will be fine on the ground and fine over the trip and despite being fourth in the market at time of writing, looks to have a very solid chance today. Course debut at Catterick today and with further improvement highly likely would be naive to write this boy out of it. Only horse from the Lacey yard being sent on the 320 mile round trip to Catterick and Stan Sheppard gets the ride. This race won’t take a great deal of winning and if progression continues, Myrighthandman will feature heavily and capable of winning.

Largely consistent five year old with form of 62325 dating back to December and remains on a very workable mark. The fifth lto was quite a bunched finish and wasn’t far away at all. Returns back to 6f today which looks a positive, seems to prefer the extra furlong and has good runs over that trip. Ok draw from stall 6 and is pretty versatile to race tactics, if starting well will run prominent but more than capable of coming from off the pace over the top too. Good jockey booking in Callum Rodriguez and True Promise at 11/2 looks a solid bet as shouldn’t really be out the places and this is definitely a winnable race.

Taking on the Skelton trained shorty here and Pyleigh Court looks nailed on for another big run today. Largely very consistent with form of 331P1 and returned lto for seasonal debut at Wincanton when scoring with relative ease. Now 2 wins from 5 chase starts and doesn’t look like slowing down any time soon. Will be more than fine on this slight drop back in trip to 2m6f and has plenty of strong form and wins at around this distance. Forecast of heavy ground is ideally suited and has the benefit of an apprentice and her 7lb allowance today which puts Pyleigh Court very firmly as well treated. Likely to be fitter today for the run out at the end of last month and will be contesting this all the way. Likely winner.

Eight year old Lion Ring took advantage of a slipping mark lto at Wolverhampton when getting up to win and the form has since been franked with third place going in since. Ryan Kavanagh retains the ride and Lion Ring has only gone up 1lb for the win last time so remains well treated. For a really small yard, the Martins have been producing good results recently and that stands this eight year old in good stead. Has an ok draw in stall 6 and is likely to start fast and lead as he does so regularly. If allowed an uncontested lead, will be hard to peg back and looks more than capable of making all. This isn’t a massively strong race and if this boy can string two performances together, has a good chance at completing the double.
