Three year old Naana’s Crystal has been highly progressive so far in first two starts. Lowkey eighth of twelve on debut at Leicester before going on to finish a strong second at Kempton lto in a rather warm maiden that was won by a very useful horse indeed so the form looks to have some worth. There is one ahead of Naana’s Crystal in the market at time of writing but that short priced fav won a weak race lto and runs under a chunky penalty today so happy to take that horse on. Further progression highly likely for our three year old and she has a good draw and a good jockey aboard in Marco Ghiani who has been consistently winning somewhat regularly over the last 60 days. Likely to be close between Naana and the shorty fave, but Naana’s Crystal is taken to get the job done. Big chance.

Naana’s Crystal has shown plenty of promise in her first two starts and took a big step forward last time when second in a strong Kempton maiden. That race has already worked out well, giving the form extra substance.

She faces a short-priced favourite today, but that rival won a weak race last time and now runs under a hefty penalty. With further improvement expected, a good draw and Marco Ghiani aboard, Naana’s Crystal looks the one to beat and is taken as today’s NAP.

Not overly disgraced in four starts with the Haggas yard and form from those races is 9334. Has since changed hands and now with the Cunha stable and makes first start for new yard today. Remains open to further progression and yard have looked to have found a decent looking race here which is pretty open. Has a good draw from stall 3 and yard have opted for a first time hood today which could help this youngster settle and focus. More than capable of producing a big run and at 10/1 looks to be a little bit overpriced in this weak race. Has a good jockey aboard in Sean Levey and he has a good record both here and for the Cunha’s. This isn’t a lofty handicap entry point for handicap debut and Alibey could very easily outrun odds today.

Alibey showed enough ability in four runs for the Haggas yard to suggest there’s more to come. He now makes his stable debut for Dylan Cunha, and this looks a well-chosen race to start him off.

A first-time hood could help him settle, and he benefits from a good draw in stall 3. Sean Levey is a strong jockey booking, particularly at Kempton, and Alibey looks overpriced at 10/1 in what is a fairly open handicap. A big run would be no surprise.

Four year old Irish raider with reasonable flat form over in Ireland and wasn’t disgraced on hurdling debut lto at Thurles. Likely to take a big step forward over the obstacles today and whilst this is quite a warm race, it would be naïve to discount this youngster from a chance. Acts on the heavy ground that’s forecast and trip is fine, and Annie’s Angel looks to be in good hands on second start for the McGuinness’. James Bowen gets the ride which is a strong booking and he also has a strong 25% record at this course. He’s not ridden for this yard in recent years if at all but yard are shrewd and successful and have a good record in recent weeks. Lots to like and if this youngster is a bit more fluid over the hurdles today, has a big shout.

Eight year old Mercurius power has been contesting races of late and whilst going close on a few occasions, has not managed to get the win. However, as a result this bot is now 2lb below last winning mark and looks too well handicapped to ignore today, particularly in this race which is not a strong line up. Ok draw from stall 5 and has both course experience and an ideal trip today. George Wood gets the ride and whilst the Macey stable are not exactly firing in loads of winners recently, when jockey and yard combine here at this track, they’ve got a good record. Good chance for this well handicapped eight year old today and wouldn’t be a surprise winner.

Woodland Park was a strong performer in maidens and his last couple resulted in a second and a victory. Has been there or thereabouts since handicapping and form reads 332 in first three handicaps. Clearly on a very workable mark and no reason to believe won’t be bang there again today. Runs usual distance today on soft ground and the ground conditions in particular looks very favourable. Course debut today at Wetherby but both yard and jockey share exceptional records at the course, especially when teaming up here, have won 29% of races at this track when working together and that’s no slouch of a statistic. Sean Bowen retains the ride as he has done for a while on this horse and that’s no bad thing, Sean is the cream of the crop and knows how to get the job done here at Wetherby. Race looks ripe for the picking and Woodland Park looks a very likely winner indeed.

Quite a warm handicap here at Kempton in the 7.10 race but one who looks nailed on for another big performance is four year old Kullazain from the Tate yard. Was struggling last year but stable opted for a gelding op at the tail end of the year and that seems to have worked wonders as Kullazain was a comfortable winner on first start post op lto at Wolverhampton. Only gone up 4lb for that win which frankly doesn’t look enough. The form of his win lto is strong and it has been franked on three occasions with horses who were behind him going in to win since. Represents a good yard, has a plum draw in stall 3 and has a top jockey aboard in Hector Crouch who is finding many a winner at the moment. Major player and looks the winner.

James Bowen is a notable booking, boasting a 25% strike rate at Hereford, and the McGuinness yard are always worth respecting in races like this. With natural improvement expected, Annie’s Angel looks capable of making her presence felt in what is a competitive race.

Mercurius Power has been knocking on the door without getting his head in front, but that consistency has seen him drop to 2lb below his last winning mark. This is not a strong contest and represents a much more realistic opportunity.

He has course experience, an ideal trip and a workable draw in stall 5. While the Macey yard haven’t been prolific recently, they do have a solid record when teaming up with George Wood at Southwell, and Mercurius Power looks too well handicapped to ignore.

Woodland Park

Woodland Park has been ultra-consistent since entering handicaps, with form figures of 332, and remains on a very workable mark. He has already proven his ability in maidens and continues to run solid races in competitive company.

The soft ground looks ideal, and although this is his course debut, the Murphy–Bowen combination is a big positive. The pair boast a 29% strike rate together at Wetherby, and Woodland Park looks primed to finally get his head in front again.
