Reason for Tip

Five year old Laguna Beach is low mileage and unexposed. Has been progressive on all 3 starts with form of 531. The Sandown race two starts ago was a strong race and some useful types in there. Went on to win nicely at Hereford lto in December and that form looks to be pretty hot with a number of runners going on nicely since. Remains open to plenty of progress and represents a top stable who know how to get the job done at Ascot. Does need to take a step forward to win this but has the services of James Bowen aboard which is a big positive and James has ridden 19% of his Henderson horses to victory. Yard is ticking along and seemed to have picked up the pace recently with a very solid strikerate of late. Big chance today for this youngster and looks a nice prospect who should take this race.

Laguna Beach is a low-mileage, progressive five-year-old who continues to improve with every run. His form figures of 5-3-1 don’t tell the full story, as the Sandown race two starts ago has worked out extremely well, with multiple runners winning since.

He followed that up with a comfortable victory at Hereford in December, showing a good attitude and plenty of scope for further progress. This step up in class will require improvement, but that looks well within reach given his profile.

Nicky Henderson’s yard has been picking up momentum, and James Bowen has an excellent strike-rate when riding for the stable. Ascot should suit, and if Laguna Beach takes the expected step forward, he looks the one to beat.

Reason for Tip

Form of 2P453 for this eight year old is not terrible but not overly inspiring. Can be a bit complicated at times but has at least showed some progression in the figures since returning to action back in November four starts ago. Gets a shorter trip here today which should suit as hasnt really fired over fences so far and this may unlock the ability we know is there. This looks a decent mark and isn’t written off despite the price of 10/1. Has decent form at this course and a good jockey aboard today in J M Quinlan. Does need to settle better and be a bit more fluent over the fences for win purposes but if that clicks today, could run a big race.

Largely consistent type who had a very strong 2025 including two wins and a number of good runs. Form reads 33327 since November 2025 and he remains on a very workable mark. Wasn’t on full song on first start this year but that was an apprentice handicap and more than capable of bouncing back in this race. Has a decent draw from stall 5 and represents a yard going along very nicely. Billy Loughnane booked for the ride and he enjoys plenty of Lingfield success. Pretty open race and we know Zooks will enjoy this trip and looks a danger in this.

Ex-Irish Four year old Down To Business enjoyed reasonable results when running in flat races over in Ireland before coming to the Skelton yard. Made hurdling debut lto at Newbury in December when despite some jumping issues managed a solid third place finish. Likely to come on a great deal for that hurdling experience and looks a big threat to the others today with further improvement almost guaranteed. Should be fine on the ground, it’s the same as lto and trip is also of no concern. From a top yard with a fantastic record at the moment and stably jockey Harry Skelton gets the ride. Would not be a shock if this youngster won and looks very capable of doing so too.

Had been showing plenty of progression prior to getting that first win lto at Lingfield and form now reads 55421. Maskatto was over 7l clear of the field with the horse who finished second when getting up to win and enters handicaps off a rather lenient mark in my opinion. Remains open to plenty of progress and has already proved himself at this track two starts ago. Seems to relish the flat mile and gets that again here. Does have a wide draw to contend with but has shown plenty of early pace to get out quickly and across to the rail. Balding yard in good form and no strangers to success at Southwell. Maskatto looks primed to follow up today.

Relatively open race here at Haydock and one who looks an interesting contender is seven year old Solar System from the Hobbs & White yard. Not been seen since March last year and so has a break to contend with but has plenty of ability and landed a double this time last year including here at Haydock. Interestingly goes up in trip on returning run and is very unexposed at these longer distances. Lacks a warm up run but has gone alright fresh previously. Decent apprentice aboard in Callum Pritchard who takes off 3lb and Solar System looks relatively well treated here. Good chance.

Maskatto finally got off the mark last time and did so very impressively, pulling clear from the rest of the field. That suggests his opening handicap mark could be lenient, and further progress looks likely.
