Blue Mantle might not be the favourite in the market at the moment, but he ran a very good debut race despite being a little green at Hamilton back in May last year and remains open to bucket loads of progression. The Johnston yard have great success with horses on second starts and they tend to come on a lot for the debut run. Blue Mantle does have the break to contend with but yard knows how to ready them and has a good strikerate on horses returning from at least 60 days off. The increased trip to 7f looks favourable on pedigree and Blue Mantle is a nicely bred youngster. Yard are flying atm with a 31% strikerate recently and they have a good course record to boot. Jason Hart aboard for the ride and yard and jockey have a 26% strikerate when combining at this course. 3/1 looks a nice price, and has a massive chance today.

Laguna Beach is a low-mileage, progressive five-year-old who continues to improve with every run. His form figures of 5-3-1 don’t tell the full story, as the Sandown race two starts ago has worked out extremely well, with multiple runners winning since.

He followed that up with a comfortable victory at Hereford in December, showing a good attitude and plenty of scope for further progress. This step up in class will require improvement, but that looks well within reach given his profile.

Nicky Henderson’s yard has been picking up momentum, and James Bowen has an excellent strike-rate when riding for the stable. Ascot should suit, and if Laguna Beach takes the expected step forward, he looks the one to beat.

Very open race here in the 7.30 at Chelmsford and one who looks set for a bit of a revival is out of form six year old Giant from the Williams yard. As a result of poor runs is now back to last winning mark and the race he won off last winning mark was over C&D. Drops back into Class 4 company today after a Class 2 lto and the yard have removed the headgear which looks a potential positive and may spark a return to form also. Ok draw in stall 6 over the 1 mile trip and is hard to ignore today off this mark for a yard with a respectable course record. Eddie Greatrex aboard for the ride and he is no stranger to success for Ian Williams. Giant does need to bounce back, but there’s a few positive today and has a fair chance off this mark.

Seven year old Honey Come Quick was a dual point to point winner before being sent chasing in a very warm novice grade 2 here at limerick on rules debut. Was fifth on that occasion and improved lto on second start when third of seven at Naas. Goes hurdling today over a longer trip than normal but on pedigree trip should be fine and will handle the forecasted ground. If taking to hurdles first time, looks to have a decent chance today in a race that’s spearheaded by a short priced Mullins horse and most of that price is the Mullins factor it seems and not necessarily for the horse who doesn’t look to be crying out for this trip. Decent chance today for Honey Come Quick with Tiernan aboard and at a nice price.

Chas record now flawless at 3 from 3 and stays at the 2m4f in this race. Likely to be contested for the lead but if Kielan Woods can keep this lad prominent and where he needs to be he has a fantastic chance today on ground that will be fine and he has good course experience including two wins at the course (one was disqualified). Race is pretty open and Kielan Woods is a good jockey to have aboard at this course. Big chance.

However, has pieced together some decent work in last three starts and has a fantastic chance to keep that going today in what’s a rather ordinary race. Has a plum draw from stall 1 and still looks relatively well treated. Hood remains on which is a positive, does best work with the headgear and William Carson aboard for the ride. Won’t take a great deal of winning this and Myna looks a likely contender to get the job done.

Progressive in last three starts including a win at Wolverhampton last month. Looked set for another before being collared when fading lto at Kempton. Clearly remains on a very workable mark and looks a big player in today’s field. Lots of horses with questions to answer on form or mark today and Electrocution looks right where they need to be. Does have the wide draw in stall 12 to overcome but won from stall 8 at Wolverhampton so is not out of the question. For a smaller yard the Banhams have a good record here and Joey Haynes has a handy strikerate in the last couple of months. Electrocution is in good hands and looks a likely victor today.
