Reason for Tip

Kurasso Blue has shown great promise in his first 5 runs, the first three over hurdles resulted in two wins and on first chase start in November he was second behind a high class opponent but proved his talent when winning a warm 10 runner race at Punchestown lto in December. Remains unexposed, particularly over fences and looks the pick of the bunch in this field today. Will relish the trip, represents a top irish yard who are enjoying a great start to the season and stable jockey Jack Kennedy gets the ride. Looks capable of improving beyond this field today and wouldn’t be a big surprise if this turns out a rather comfortable affair for Kurasso Blue today. Looks to have great potential and should solidify that today. Looks the winner.

Free Your Spirit – 5.30 Kempton (Evens)

Free Your Spirit looks the standout on the card. He showed promise on debut before improving dramatically to win comfortably at Wolverhampton last time out, pulling clear by three lengths with plenty in hand.

He carries a 7lb penalty today, but that is completely negated by the booking of talented apprentice Donagh Murphy, who takes off 7lb. Drawn well in stall 2 and still very much unexposed, Free Your Spirit looks to have far more upside than his rivals.

Unless something improves out of all recognition, he should take a lot of beating and looks a very strong NAP.

Reason for Tip

Low mileage four year old Sea Founder from the Hughes stable failed to kick on from a win at Windsor in April and as a result mark has dropped back to a very tempting one. Not been since since September however the win at Windsor in April was after 7 months off so should be fine to go well fresh again. Has a decent draw today, runs usual trip and is capable of disrupting the principals today. Yard is a shrewd operation and do well finding good races for their string of horses and this looks a good one for Sea Founder. Finley Marsh gets the ride which is a positive and the pair share a decent record when combining at this track. If fully on song after the break, may just have something to say in this race and is far from written off.

The Organiser is now extremely well handicapped, running off a mark of 63 — 1lb below his last winning mark and a full 7lb below his highest winning rating.

He shaped well last time out when finishing third in a stronger Class 4 race at this track and now drops back into Class 6 company, which gives him a huge chance. The same 6f trip suits, and in a wide-open race, The Organiser looks overpriced at double-figure odds and capable of going very close.

Nicholls trained Gillespie is an unexposed low mileage 6 year old who has only been seen on three occasions with form of 134. Goes handicapping for the first time today on a very workable mark in a rather tame entry point and looks set for a big run today. On pedigree the longer trip today is a positive and from what we’ve seen so far is a decent and relatively controlled hurdler who should appreciate the forecasted good ground. Remains open to plenty more progress than a lot of these horses today and represents a top yard with a strong track record at Exeter. Freddie Keighley gets the ride and also takes off 3lb with his apprentice allowance. Great chance for this boy today.

Cumberland River is the youngest horse in this race and and has started this season in decent style. Needed the return run but got up very nicely lto at Limerick to win when battling through the field in the closing stages. Has been raised 8lb for that win but it’s not unusual for horses to kick on in this scenario and he remains open to further progress still. From a top yard who are in excellent form and the trip is the same as lto for this four year old. Only real question mark is the ground, he relished the heavy ground lto so any overnight or morning raining would be beneficial but even without, looks a major player in this race.

Eight year old Annandale has struggled in the last few months but we saw a return to some form lto here at Newcastle when fourth of nine and it’s hard to dismiss the mark he’s currently on. Now 3lb below last winning mark and looks very dangerously handicapped today in what is a pretty ordinary looking Class 5. Likely to win again soon and this looks his best chance in a while back at a course he historically enjoys and has won at twice previously. Paul Mulrennan aboard is a positive and Annandale definitely has a chance and is capable of producing a win today off this mark.

Bit of a risk taken here on this four year old who is now a 15 race maiden. However, has been running very well recently even in defeat and the second lto at Southwell was a big step forward from previous and off this mark is capable of putting in another solid performance. Jack Dace gets the ride with his 5lb apprentice allowance and whilst they have an outside draw to come from, best runs have come from middle of the pack so would expect Invincible Lady to be slotted in somewhere ready to challenge in the final furlong. Looks to be a good chance today to grab that win and the yard are enjoying plenty of recent success in the last fortnight.

Tiger Crusade – 1.05 Lingfield (13/2)

Tiger Crusade can be a little awkward at times, but he showed his ability when taking advantage of a class drop to score at Brighton back in June. He returned from a break last time out here at Lingfield and ran a perfectly credible race when finishing third.

That run should have blown away the cobwebs, and he now returns to the same track, same trip, and same mark, which looks a big positive. Drawn reasonably in stall 5 and partnered by Callum Shepherd, this race is well within reach. A fitter Tiger Crusade looks set to produce a big run.

Forceful Lady – 2.35 Lingfield (4/1)

Trainer: A W Carroll | Jockey: William Carson

Forceful Lady has taken a big step forward in recent starts and looks to be turning a corner. She finished second at Wolverhampton in November and looked the likely winner last time at Chelmsford before being badly hampered late on.

She runs here off a very workable mark in what looks a weak race on paper. A plum draw in stall 1 suits her front-running style perfectly, and William Carson retains the ride. If allowed an easy lead, Forceful Lady may take some catching.

Lerwick – 6.00 Kempton (7/2)

Trainer: D M Loughnane | Jockey: George Wood

This is a tricky race, but Lerwick looks to hold strong claims. He struggled for form over 6f earlier in the season but showed much more when stepped back up to 7f here at Kempton last time, finishing a close third in a competitive field.

The return of blinkers is a major positive, as many of his best performances have come with the headgear applied. Drawn wide in stall 8, he’ll need to break well, but if able to race prominently, Lerwick looks a major player in an open contest.

Popmaster – 6.30 Kempton (5/1)

Trainer: Ed Walker | Jockey: Oisin Murphy

Popmaster is an eight-year-old who has hinted at a return to form of late, with his third at Southwell last time out representing his best run for some time. He should now be spot on fitness-wise after two runs this winter.

A drop back to 7f looks a sensible move, and a perfect draw in stall 1 is another plus. Add in the booking of Oisin Murphy for a yard that does well at Kempton, and Popmaster looks capable of going very close in a modest race.
