Reason for Tip

Low mileage five year old Speculateur was a point winner before going in to rules at Punchestown in a bumper and finished fourth that day. That was a disappointing result for a horse that has plenty of ability and a nice pedigree and is likely to take a large step forward here on hurdling debut. Yard know how to ready their first time hurdlers and are in scintillating form currently. This is a very weak and ordinary race and on breeding the soft to heavy ground should be more than fine for this youngster. Won’t take much to win this and hard to look away from this boy in this field. Stable jockey Jack Kennedy gets the ride and Speculateur should win this.

⭐ NAP of the Day

Selenic – 6.00 Southwell (11/8)

Trainer: Sir Mark Prescott | Jockey: Luke Morris

Selenic stands out as the most unexposed runner in this field and looks the clear one to beat. She showed ability on debut at Kempton when narrowly denied, before winning with authority on her second start in February.

She returns from a break, but the Prescott yard boasts an excellent strike-rate with horses off 60+ days. The step up in trip is a strong positive on pedigree, and this Southwell surface should suit well. In a weak-looking handicap, Luke Morris is likely to ride her positively, and if Selenic is anywhere near fit, she could win this comfortably.

Reason for Tip

Seven year old Lemoncello was a fairly successful hurdler before being sent over fences for the first time on seasonal return in November. Both chase starts have resulted in a fall and so yard have returned this boy to the hurdles today. Despite falling, looked strong and sharp and the return to his familiar obstacles may prove a big positive. Is on a very good mark on earlier form and will relish the soft ground today. Charlie Deutsch aboard as stable jockey is a good thing and he has good history at this course. This is a wide open race and would be no surprise to see a longer odds go in here and Lemoncello off this mark, back over hurdles and on this ground looks set for a return to form and at a nice price too.

Wadacre Moriarty makes his handicap debut after three uninspiring maiden runs, but that does not tell the full story. This is by far the easiest race he has contested, and he remains extremely unexposed compared to many of his older, exposed rivals.

The Johnston yard has a strong record with first-time handicappers, and this looks a carefully chosen entry point. Drawn well and partnered by Callum Shepherd, Wadacre Moriarty could take a sizeable step forward. At 18/1, he offers genuine each-way appeal and is not ruled out springing a surprise.

Trappy little race this 2.50 and one who looks set for another solid run is six year old top weight Gino Bella from the Foley yard. Has ran two very solid races so far this season since return with a third and then a second lto at Fairyhouse. Trip and ground are both fine today and this looks a great race for this six year old to grab a win. Remains unexposed with only eight runs in rules races and apprentice Eoin Staples gets the ride with his 5lb apprentice allowance putting Gino Bella on a very tempting mark. Not a great deal of talent in this race and it looks very winnable for this mare.

Can be a little inconsistent at times but has plenty of ability and proved that again lto here at Taunton when winning nicely by 3 lengths over American Sniper. Has been raised 6lb but still on a reasonable mark and he looked very good last time out and gets the same conditions here today and at the same track. Yard are going nicely for a smaller operation and stable jockey Lorcan Williams is proving his worth with some great rides already this year. Lots to like today and if Celtic Art is showing up today like we know he can, is more than capable of completing a Taunton double.

Three year old Allegrino had a pretty awful start on debut when finishing 8th at Southwell but shook off that greenness when a strong 2nd at Kempton lto. That was more like what we should be seeing from a filly like this with a decent pedigree and a bad debut can be easily forgiven. Remains open to plenty of further progress and this looks a well found race for this youngster. Runs the same 6f today on course debut at Chelmsford and looks set to take this with some further improvement which is likely. Represents a top yard with a good record here and a good jockey aboard in Callum Hutchinson. Likely winner.

Largely consistent type who is pretty versatile to both trip and track and remains on a very workable mark. Won at Southwell three starts ago in November and then returned to form after a blip when third lto. Drops back down to 5f for the first time in a while today but went very close last time over this trip and certainly has the speed to win at this sharp distance. Has a wide draw but that shouldn’t hamper this boys chances as prefers to sit off the pace and come over the top late on which can easily work in this race. From a shrewd yard enjoying decent form and has a decent booking in Pat Cosgrave. Will likely be very competitive as he nearly always is and has a good chance today to return to winning ways.

🍀 Lucky 15 Tips Today

Alfa Patisserie – 1.15 Wolverhampton (4/1)

Alfa Patisserie took a significant step forward on handicap debut last time out at Newcastle, improving sharply from three underwhelming maiden runs to score with authority. That win looked anything but fluky, with the filly travelling strongly and finding plenty when asked.

She runs over the same mile trip here on her Wolverhampton debut and is 2lb better off with the runner-up from Newcastle. With the next best in the betting carrying a stiff 6lb penalty, this looks a race ripe for further progression. Sean Levey takes over again, and another positive ride could see Alfa Patisserie go back-to-back. Strong contender with more to come.

Diamondonthehill – 3.45 Wolverhampton (4/1)

Trainer: Dr R Newland & J Insole | Jockey: Saffie Osborne

Now eight, Diamondonthehill may not quite possess the spark of his younger days, but recent runs suggest a return to competitiveness. He remains on a very workable mark and drops back into a class he has previously handled well.

The last time he ran in this grade at Wolverhampton, he finished a close third in a stronger contest than today’s. Drawn well in stall 3 and partnered by the excellent Saffie Osborne, Diamondonthehill looks primed to deliver a big run at a track he enjoys. Solid each-way claims and not ruled out winning.

Circuit Breaker – 4.15 Wolverhampton (7/2)

Trainer: Jonjo & A J O’Neill | Jockey: Jack Dace

Circuit Breaker has contested far deeper races than this throughout his career and showed clear signs last time that a win may not be far away. He finished a close second in an apprentice handicap here at Wolverhampton, shaping as though the race would come to him with a slightly longer trip.

That step up in distance today looks a definite positive. Jack Dace takes the ride again and has a solid record around this track. With the form holding up well and the class drop suiting, Circuit Breaker has a major chance of getting his head back in front.

Berlinetta – 8.00 Southwell (5/1)

Berlinetta takes on a short-priced favourite here but brings significant untapped potential to the table. A £250,000 yearling, she has shown only modest form in three maiden runs, but this represents a very lenient handicap entry pointfor such a well-bred filly.

The break is a minor concern, but the Haggas yard excels with horses returning fresh. Her sire boasts an excellent record at Southwell, and a plum draw in stall 1 is another major positive. Handicap progression can often be sharp at this level, and Berlinetta looks capable of improving past this field at a fair price.
