Reason for Tip

Has been a very strong performer lately with wins at Fakenham and Plumpton last month and bids for hattrick here today at Catterick. Runs under a penalty but since they’ve added cheekpieces, this seven year old has looked better and better and no reason further progression won’t happen. Ideal trip today on ground that is fine for this horse and looks a major player today in what’s on paper, a rather ordinary race. Junior Des Mottes is taken to defy the penalty and complete the hattrick. Yard and jockey are both absolutely flying at the moment and winning plenty of races, they also have a great record together when teaming up. Junior Des Mottes is the obvious form choice and not sure anything in this line up can contest him today even under a penalty.

Neon Moon is one of the most reliable handicappers in this grade. A strong 5th on seasonal return in a Grade 3 at Ascot was followed by a Class 2 win last time out. He’s only been nudged up 3lb and now drops into Class 3 company. Trip ideal, versatile ground, and today’s opposition lacking depth. Everything points to another big run, and he looks the likeliest winner on the card.

Pretty open race here in the 4.02 at Southwell and one horse who looks particularly interesting today is eight year old Baldomero from the Appleby yard. Form of 19114 since November last year including a win at this course back in November off a mark of 83. After a series of wins has reached a peak mark of 92 currently after winning off 90 two starts ago. Despite the fourth placed finish lto, i don’t think this mark is impossible in the right race and this race looks potentially a very winnable one. Baldomero has decent course form, fine over this trip and is pretty versatile stall wise so 11 isn’t a huge concern. Race looks ripe for the taking and if Baldomero can break well he can take some catching. Big odds and there is a chance the handicapper has found the mark that stalls this horse but if running a decent race at a course he likes, Baldomero can feature today. Joanna Mason aboard.

Bravo Zulu was electric earlier in the year, rattling off six AW wins along with turf success. He’s been off since August, but the yard do well with horses returning from breaks, and he’s back on his favoured surface. The key stat: Rossa Ryan is 5 wins from 5 rides on Bravo Zulu. That partnership alone makes him very interesting at double-figure odds. If he’s fit enough, he’s a huge threat.

Six year old Roaring Ralph has strung together three good runs in a row this year so far with form of 221 since 8th January. Got up nicely over C&D lto and after only a 3lb looks well treated still. This race is by no means a tough one and Roaring Ralph has a good chance to complete a double. Seems to relish this course and despite having a wideish draw from stall 7, unlikely to hinder him. Mark Winn aboard for the ride. Couple ahead of this six year old in the market but neither look overly threatening and a lot of this field have question marks to answer. Another consistent performance from Roaring Ralph would see him run out the winner i think.

Reasonable bumper form of 283 and returns today for hurdling debut after a few months off. The form from the plumpton race lto looks half decent with one of them going in since and Flying Pimpernel looks a big player today. From a yard that knows how to ready their hurdlers and whilst they don’t run here at this course very often, when they do they have won half their races. Top jockey aboard in Gavin Sheehan who has a stellar record recently and also finds regular success riding Snowden trained horses. Trip and ground look absolutely fine today for this youngster and should be heavily involved if getting round cleanly. Likely winner.

Pretty interesting horse Noble Birth, three time winner over hurdles and generally runs a decent race in that discipline. Chase record is nothing to be shouting home about so yard have opted to keep him over hurdles for now which looks a big positive. Well treated on his best form and this race is markedly easier than some of the hurdle races he’s contested in recent months. Trip is ideal at 2m6f and acts on soft/heavy ground which is what’s forecast for Naas today. Yard possibly not winning as much as they should be at the moment but those streaks always end and this looks a great chance for this nine year old to get the job done today under a positive ride from Keith Donoghue. Big chance.

Reason for Tip

Three year old River Spey was progressive last term with form of 53431 including a big race in a large field handicap at the Ebor meeting. Won at Chelmsford lto but that was 146 days ago and so going well fresh could be a question that needs answering from this youngster. Walker yard pretty decent at readying them and he has a decent rate at horses winning after a 60+ day lay off so on paper River Spey should go well after the break. Well drawn in stall 3 and this is a pretty weak handicap entry point for this boy on handicap debut today. Course debut for River Spey today but from a yard with a good record here and has a talented apprentice aboard in Ashley Lewis who knows how to win at this track too. Major player on handicap debut today and a likely winner.

The return to a favourable trip is a plus based on both previous performances and pedigree. A good draw, a weak race, and 5lb taken off by Myla Coppinsall add to the case. A big run looks very close—today could be the day.

A fascinating hurdling debut for a progressive flat performer. Northwest Passage arrives after a strong run of form, including a Salisbury win and a close second at Newbury in Class 3 company. The step up to 2m over hurdles should be well within reach, and the Teal yard can ready one first time over obstacles. Add in top-class jockey Harry Cobden, and he looks a major player.

Followcato made his chase debut last month, unseating first time before running an encouraging 5th at Lingfield over 2m6f. He should strip fitter now and benefit from both a drop back in trip and give in the ground. Represents the in-form Ben Pauling yard and has a capable rider in Kielan Woods. Looks ready to take a nice step forward here.

Heathcliff – 5.40 Kempton – 5/1

Heathcliff has taken a real liking to Kempton, posting personal-best efforts on consecutive runs at this course. The return here is a huge positive. The drop back to 6f looks ideal, and a suitable draw should help him settle into a handy position. With Billy Loughnane aboard—who rides Kempton brilliantly—this looks a slightly weaker race, and Heathcliff has every chance of getting the job done.
