Seven year old Leader In The Park has a record of 2 wins from 5 runs over fences last year and is taken to resume that progress here on seasonal debut. All runners in this race are returning from lengthy breaks and the Pauling yard knows how to ready them and has a solid record with horses returning from breaks so Leader In The Park should be mostly tuned up for this. Ground and trip are both favourable and he sets the standard across the board really. Yard and jockey both very successful currently and are enjoying plenty of wins. Both have lots of success chasing too and partnership very well. Leader In The Park looks the obvious answer in this four runner Class 3 and should be winning.

Ground and trip are ideal, the stable is firing, and this looks a straightforward option in a tight four-runner Class 3. He sets the standard and should prove too strong if ready — and all signs suggest he will be.

Big field Class 3 here in the second at Newbury and with most bookies paying 4 places, theres scope for some big price places. One that catches the eye with an outside chance in this is Vocito at 18/1. 4 wins from 24 hurdle starts including back in July at Uttoxeter. Had a 7lb claimer that day and has a 7lb claimer today which puts Vocito just 1lb higher than the mark that race was won off. Looking quite well handicapped here today and whilst he is much more exposed than a lot of these opponents, he has the experience and a good mark as positives. Yard are also flying with a 34% strikerate in the last 30 days. Some of the more unexposed horses may improve and surpass what Vocito is capable of, but the mark is notable just 1lb higher than last win and represents an inform yard. Trip and ground both suit and Vocito is capable of big run here and placing at nice odds and with a bit of luck could win too.

A wide-open Class 3 handicap with place value galore. Vocito boasts 4 hurdle wins and scored at Uttoxeter in July off a mark very similar to today when benefitting from a 7lb claim. He gets that same claim again, effectively only 1lb higher than that win.

Yes, he’s more exposed than some unproven rivals, but experience on testing ground plus a yard operating at 34% strike-rate makes him a serious each-way contender. Quietly underestimated and capable of a big effort.

Why it’s the Dark Horse:
Handicap mark workable, yard flying, conditions suit. Live place chance at a price.

Taking on a very short price favourite here which has obvious risks attached but that favourite is under a 7lb penalty today which looks contestable over this pacier race than they won lto. Lowlands is a progressive six year old who ran well on seasonal debut in September after a long break and should strip fitter for that today. Further progress is likely and has course experience on his side. The form from the race back in September has turned out to be strong and Lowlands looks to have a chance here in this. Yard going very well at the moment and both ground and trip are ideal in this today. If the favourite struggles under the penalty, Lowlands looks the one who will strike and take it. Good chance.

The three at the head of the market are all debutants and Turbocharged is one of them, he has a very strong pedigree and looks a striking debutant here in what’s a relatively open race. Yard are going very this year in bumpers with a 20% strikerate and they know how to ready the first time with a 17% strikerate with first timers. Skeltons have a good record here at Newbury and are finding some good form. Obviously there is questions to answer from the debutants and they could be anything but Turbocharged is taken to go very well here on first start and wouldn’t be a surprise winner by any means.

Alligator Alley had been somewhat inconsistent in defeat recently before looking returned to his best when winning nicely here lto. Remains 2lb ahead of his mark under the penalty from that win and looks set to strike again. Has a good record at this course and the sharper 5f seems to suit so retaining that trip is a positive. Well drawn in stall 4 and this doesn’t look an overly strong race for this eight year old to contest and win. Kaiya Fraser aboard who is no stranger to a win at Newcastle and knows this horse well as Kaiya has been aboard every time he runs for a while now. Big chance for a quickfire double. Likely winner.

Expensive youngster from the Varian yard who went down a beaten favourite on last start at Newcastle and seemed to find the extra yardage tough that day. Drops back in trip here and looks a major player on handicap debut. Deserves another chance despite the run lto and was largely progressive prior to that in much hotter races than this. Weak class 6 today and Bintazzo looks the standard setter here in this. Has a top jockey aboard in Rossa Ryan and this is a very weak handicap entry point. Looks the winner.
