Reason for Tip

Pic Roc is a talented seven year who has contested some very hot races over the years and has the hurdling form in this field by quite some way. Tailed off a bit at the end of last season but they were much warmer races than this. Didn’t start this years campaign overly well when unseating the rider lto at Worcester but these things sometimes happen and Pic Roc should strip much fitter now on second start of this new jumps season. However despite that Pic Roc is the standout pick in this race and represents a fantastic yard who are going very well and has a good jockey aboard in Kielan Woods. Doesn’t really look like anyone in this lineup should be able to mount a challenge and Pic Roc should take this today.

Back to 1m2f — an ideal trip — and although this is his first run at Newmarket, the yard excels here and the jockey booking strengthens confidence.

Rather open race this Cork Hurdle and one who looks quite well priced is old timer Café Con Leche from the Byrnes yard. Highest winning hurdling mark of 118 and we’ve seen a return to form since the mark has dropped. Finished a reasonable fourth on last hurdle start off a mark of 116 and has been dropped 4 to run off a mark of 112 today. Also the big benefit of Mr Bustin’s 7lb apprentice claim today which puts this old boy on a very attractive mark. Jockey despite being inexperience has a good record at Cork and theres actually a lot to like about this 9 year olds chances today. Could go in at a nice price here.

Experience at this track matters — and he brings bundles of it. Danger to the front of the market if building again.

Pretty open race here with the vast majority of the field having just one race under their belt. One who looks open to taking this is Aiden O’Brien trained Il Corsaro who despite being very green, finished well on debut at Leopardstown on last month and should come leaps and bounds for that experience. Nicely bred youngster and the fifth was only by three lengths and looks a major player on course debut at The Curragh here. Represents a mighty stable who has great success here and looks likely to be heavily involved at the end today.

Relatively handy runner on the flat who recorded a win at Newmarket back in August. Makes hurdling debut here today and so there is obvious risks and questions attached to the chances today, but this four year old should see out the trip no problem and with a clear enough round of hurdling has every chance here. Yard have readied horses previously for hurdling debuts and they have a great strikerate currently. Have had plenty of success at the track over the years and Sir Edward Lear gets the talented J J Burke aboard today who has plenty of experience. Has a good chance to begin hurdles campaign in the best way possible.

Hattrick seeking Kapal Layar is still relatively low mileage for his age and despite being raised a healthy amount for the decisive win at Perth lto, looks shaped for further progress and doesn’t seem like we’ve seen this boys ceiling just yet. Yard are absolutely flying and have a great record here and Kapal Layar should find both trip and ground ideal conditions. Ever impressive Sean Bowen aboard who continues to dominate and when yard and jockey combine here at Carlisle they are running at just under a 40% strikerate. Kapal Layar does have a break to contend with but has proven himself to run well fresh previously so should be primed and ready to go for this. Likely winner.

Harringtons have two in this and Fleur De Chine looks to be the first string with Shane Foley preferring to ride this four year old. Bit of an up and down year really but Fleur De Chine has contested some quite warm races this year including some Group 3s and wasn’t disgraced in either of them. Showed a return to form lto at Naas when winning nicely over this trip last month and whilst now carries a 3lb penalty, still looks pretty well treated. Will handle the heavy ground where some won’t and represents a top yard with a top jockey aboard. Big chance.
