Two year old Return Of The Gods was quite an expensive yearling at £350,000 and showed that ability during a promising career debut here at Wolverhampton earlier this month when running on well to finish third in a big field. The Bethell horses often come on a lot on second start and so we should see that from this boy here today. There isn’t much in this race that looks overly threatening, the horses who have already ran don’t seem particularly up to much and bar a major improver shouldn’t pose much of a threat and of the newcomers in the race, none look that strong nor represent yards known for their two year olds and so it quite frankly looks set for Return Of The Gods to return to Wolverhampton and win this time on second start. Great jockey aboard in Callum Rodriguez and he is both in form currently and has a good record at the track. When the Bethell’s and Callum Rodriguez combine at this track they have won around 20% of their races and this looks another one. Looks the likely winner.

Two-year-old Return Of The Gods was a £350,000 yearling and showed serious promise on debut here at Wolverhampton when finishing a close third in a big field. The Bethell yard’s youngsters often take a big step forward on their second start, and he looks perfectly placed to do just that tonight.

This isn’t a strong race — the main threats look limited — and the track experience will be a major plus. Rodriguez retains the ride and boasts a strong 20% win rate when combining with the Bethells at this course. Everything looks set for him to deliver on that expensive price tag and get off the mark here.

Reason for Tip

This six year old is no stranger to the winners circle with ten win on the grass including three starts ago at Chepstow. Has struggled on a couple of subsequent starts and as a result mark has dropped a little. Still three above that last winning mark but we know this mare has plenty of ability, good course form and versatile on the conditions. This race is arguably weaker than some of her recent starts and so should have an easier time today in a race that doesn’t look overly strong. Has a good jockey aboard in Rossa Ryan and Rossa and the Harris yard have a strong 25% strikerate when combining together and so a chance is taken on Connie’s Rose finding some better form off today’s slightly lower mark and with a bit of fortune, may record 11th career win and third course win. Risks attached, but has a chance.

A proven mare who knows how to win, Connie’s Rose has 10 career victories and strong course form at Bath. Her mark has dropped slightly after a couple of tougher runs, and she’s now well-weighted to strike again in what looks a weaker race than recent assignments.

With Rossa Ryan booked — a jockey with a 25% strike rate for the Harris yard — this could be the day she bounces back to form. Big value each-way.

Pretty average race this and one that peaks interest is Attention Seeker. A two year old from the Eustace yard who is easily the most unexposed horse in the race and he looks on very tempting today on Handicap debut. He isn’t far behind the principles here on figures and given he’s open to plenty of improvement still may well just improve beyond them. Represents a strong yard and has a decent jockey aboard in Kaiya who has a strong course record. Very little to like about a lot of these entrants today and so a chance is taken on one who looks suited to handicaps and has ran creditably on previous starts with form of 724. Decent chance.

Small field hurdle at Plumpton here and Lady Caro looks primed to return to winning ways today. She had a long break from April until September and on her two starts post break has finished third on both and her fitness should now be right where it needs to be. Has a good record at this track including a win here back in March and she looks to be on a very workable mark. Yard firing in plenty of winners currently with over a 55% SR this last fortnight and Ben Jones aboard is only a further positive. When combining here at Plumpton, they share a very strong record together and Lady Caro looks like she will only add to that today.

Crack Shot is a James Owen trained five year old who has been very progressive over the last 5 months or so with form of 54432 and today looks a fine opportunity to add a 1 to the end of that form string. Course debut today at Pontefract which is a bit of an unknown but this boy tends to like to be on the prominent side of the race and that works well here at this track and so he should take to it quite nicely. Cam Hardie aboard for the first time, it’s a decent booking and he should give Crack Shot a good chance. Pretty wide open and weak race and the Owen yard are in good form so another winner in this five year old wouldn’t be a huge shock.

Echo Of Glory isn’t the most straightforward at times and hasn’t shown his best since making a winning handicap debut back in June but as a result his mark has now dropped to 60 and he drops into a 0-60 today. His form whilst not inspiring a great deal of confidence has been in hotter races than this and he should come good sooner or later at this lower level. Has the plum draw and plenty of early speed to get out front at which point talented Billy Loughnane should be able to steer this three year old from the front and hopefully make all for the Kubler’s only runner here at Wolverhampton today. Major player and looks a likely winner today.
