Reason for Tip

Aajej was slightly disappointing on debut at Haydock when he was quite heavily backed. Positively progressive on next start lto when third in a good race at Southwell and that form has been franked by the horse who finished second that day. One of the more unexposed types in this race with only two starts and further improvement looks as certain as it can do. Represents a very powerful stable and has a good jockey aboard in Callum Rodriguez. Both yard in jockey in good form both on and off the AW and with the likely further progression this youngster looks the pick of the bunch and may improve well beyond most of them to take this with relative ease. Big chance.

Small field here today and the stand out horse is Alfaraz. He isn’t favourite currently, but it wouldn’t surprise me if this boy was backed in as the morning progresses. Alfaraz has only ran once which was a hotly contested Class 2 at Goodwood back at the end of August and the form from that race has worked out well. Improvement almost guaranteed, particularly with the record the Balding’s have with horses on second start. Alfaraz was a pricey 300,000gns yearling and should solidify reasoning for that here. Looks the pick of the bunch here and he holds a Futurity entry. Yard in very good form and have a good record here. Oisin Murphy aboard and he has a stellar 30% strikerate at Epsom along with being in scintillating form at the moment. Should win this.

He’s in blistering form himself, making this pairing a confident selection. Small field, but Alfaraz is expected to stamp his authority.

Reason for Tip

Lots of runners here in this Class 2 at Newcastle and one that has risks attached but stands out with some potential is Heathcliff. AW specialist with four wins from 13 starts and even in defeat he is usually thereabouts. Still a little above last winning mark and has a decent break to contend with but if he comes out well fresh and runs anything close to some of his best form he has more than a chance in this. Yard and jockey both have a respectable record and Heathcliff may just outrun his odds.

Lots of talented horses for this years Cambridgeshire and one that is attractive at a nice price for today’s dark horse selection is Boiling Point. Historically the favourites have a torrid time in this race with only one winning in the last 10 years. We often see nice prices go in here and Boiling Point represents last years winning stable, the in form and powerful Burke’s. This four year old looked better than ever when going down second in the Group 3 Strensall lto and whilst the handicapper has had a good nibble, this boy has a lot of talent and is absolutely capable of taking this. He has already ran well here on three occasions including a win and is quite well drawn to get out early ahead of the pack and get a good position from the off. Interesting stat for you, the last two winners of this race both ran off a weight of 9-12 and the only horse that weight today is, you guessed it, Boiling Point. Not typically one for superstition but I like his chances today and yard are in fine form currently.

This All-Weather specialist has won 4 of his 13 starts and usually runs his race, even in defeat. Although slightly above his last winning mark, Heathcliff has the ability to go well fresh and looks overpriced in this field. Newcastle suits hold-up horses with a turn of foot, and Daniel Muscutt knows him well. A big-field Class 2 always carries risk, but if Heathcliff runs anywhere near his best form, he’s capable of outrunning his odds.

Two year old has shown signs of promise including a win at Leicester back in July. Bit outclassed in a deep Class 2 at York last month but was back on song at Sandown lto when a close third behind Assaranca. Renovatio Angel looks a major threat today down 2lb and down in class and this looks to be a very winnable mark, especially in quite a weak race like this one. Has the benefit of talented Daniel Tudhope aboard today and he has a fantastic course record with a strikerate of 25%. Big chance.

Eight year old Summerleaze won three times over hurdles this spring and went into chase debut with promise. Disappointed that day when 8th. Improved nicely lto when fourth at Stratford and can be more confident in the chances here today. Drops back in trip which seems much desirable after Summerleaze faded out over longer lto. Remains unexposed when chasing and is likely to take a big step forward and today looks a good chance to do so. Sean Bowen aboard who is in exceptional form and has a good track record here to boot. He knows how to get the best from Summerleaze as he has won on her 3 times already. Big chance today for this girl.

This four year old was largely progressive last year but has started somewhat slowly so far this season with form of 4759. However, can discount the 9th lto as that was a deep and hotly contested Class 2 at Haydock and Contacto remains very well treated on old form and a return to a Class 4 Handicap today may be the start of the resurgence. This is quite the drop in class from lto and the last time Contacto ran here over this trip the result was a second place in a Class 2 back in September. Major player today for a powerful yard with a good history here.

Youngster from the De Souza yard who returned to form lto when winning at Kempton over 1m4f. Upped in distance slightly today but that isn’t a negative and she should be contesting still. The win lto was very narrow and so she has only gone up by 1, interestingly, apprentice Luke Catton is aboard today who takes off 3lb which makes Appleblossomwhite better treated today than when she won at Kempton last time. Yard in good form and known for being shrewd operators. More than capable of winning again here.

The form from that Epsom race has been strong and the winner and 2nd have gone in again since. One of the most unexposed horses in this line up and is open to lots of progression still. Represents a top yard who are running well currently and has Rossa Ryan aboard for the ride. Yard and jockey both in reasonable form and Rossa has a great record here at Epsom. Crystal Pier looks a major player here.

Highly progressive two year old who’s form solidifies that at 9531 ultimately resulting in a win lto at Bath. That win was Supreme Diamonds first run on soft ground and it was clearly not a negative. Gets soft ground again today here and runs over the same trip. Course debut at Ffos Las but nothing in her previous runs that would mean that’s a negative and she’s taken to put another bold bid in today. Only four runners, Supreme Diamond has the best form and looks the winner. Joe Leavy aboard to do the steering.

Four year old who is running consistently well in defeat. Stems from a quickfire double where the handicapper had something to say and so the mark is holding him at bay so far. However, he retains ability, is going to find his feet at this mark and it could just be today in what represents a drop in class from last few runs and it’s an easier field to contest. Has won here previously and generally enjoys the course, represents an in form yard who are finding regular winners and should be bang there today and has every chance at regaining success.

Burke trained two year old debutant who is nicely bred and isn’t shooting for the stars here on first start. Only four runners in the field and the other three have ran once or twice previously, albeit not overly impressively and this is a big chance to get winning straight away for Foxtrot Flyer. Yard are having a blistering year, particularly with two year olds and debutants and it really is hard to not back them in the current form. Regular followers will know Burke has been a hot selection at times in these picks and has done very well for us, including a 14/1 winner yesterday. Clifford Lee aboard and both yard and jockey are not strangers to success here and tend to win around 20% of runs at the track. Burke knows how to ready a debutant and so we may just see Foxtrot Flyer take off and leave these for dust. Looks the winner.
