Blackburn Rovers have endured a slow and frustrating start to the Championship season, sitting 16th in the table with two wins and three defeats from their opening five games.

Valérien Ismaël’s men picked up solid away victories at Hull City and Watford, but those successes have been overshadowed by defeats to West Brom, Birmingham City and Norwich City, as well as an early EFL Cup exit following a 2-1 home loss to Bradford City. Rovers now return to Ewood Park under pressure to deliver a result in front of their fans.

Ipswich Town, meanwhile, find themselves only separated from Blackburn by goal difference. Relegated from the Premier League last season, Kieran McKenna’s side have struggled to adapt to life back in the second tier.

The Tractor Boys’ only victory so far came in emphatic fashion – a 5-0 demolition of Sheffield United – but that has been followed by three draws and a narrow 1-0 defeat away to Preston. Ipswich may have attacking quality but remain inconsistent, meaning Ewood Park is far from a guaranteed happy hunting ground.
