Reason for Tip

Talented four year old from the Kevin Ryan yard who looks a bit risky based on the run abroad lto but that was over a slightly longer trip and he drops back down in trip today and that’s a major positive. Has ran brilliantly over this distance including when winning a hotly contested handicap at Ascot last year. Ran creditably in the Group 3 race at Haydock in May and can resume that progress now back here over a trip that suits him. Volterra has posted good numbers and if springing back from the disappointing run across the channel which I think he will, is very well treated here. Slightly longer odds than usual for a NAP of the day but this race is very interesting and Volterra is capable of producing a huge run here at a nice price and is well fancied for this.

Volterra looks primed for a huge run today. A talented four-year-old who has already proven himself at this trip, he drops back down in distance after a slightly underwhelming run abroad. His record over today’s distance is strong, including a hot Ascot handicap win last year.

With Kevin Ryan’s yard in form and Shane Gray in the saddle, Volterra looks well treated and well positioned to bounce back. The odds are a touch bigger than we usually see for a NAP, but that only adds value. Expect a bold performance.

Reason for Tip

Dual winner here in Britain on the all weather but has yet to win on turf. The form since back in Ireland is a seventh and a thirteenth however we know this five year has ability as it’s been shown and Drafted is hard to completely rule out from a plum draw at a track where it’s beneficial, has a top jockey aboard in Billy Lee and was also dropped 7lb. Few things that are leading to a bit of a turf revival here and there’s not many in this race with obvious chances and so Drafted may be able to pick up a surprise win today at a big price. Chance.

Two year old from the Burke yard who has raced on three occasions so far with form of 312 including a win at Carlisle in July. Has seemed largely progressive and whilst the form of third at Goodwood doesn’t seem it, that was a Class 2 and quite a jump in class. Drops back to a Class 4 today and looks nicely treated on handicap debut for a yard who is having an exceptional season with their two year olds. Stable jockey C Lee aboard which is a further positive. Some other unexposed types in this line up but Aspiral looks a major player and should play a leading role with a good chance of winning.

Unexposed youngster from the Burrows yard who whilst no win thus far has ran very nicely in defeat, particularly on last two starts when going down second both times to an odds on favourite. El Megeeth looks a big player on handicap debut here at Newbury and is one of the more unexposed types in the field and already has some of the best figures available. Represents an inform yard who also have a 29% strikerate here at Newbury and El Megeeth gets the benefit of William Buick aboard. Not only does Buick have a good strikerate here at this track, he has won 34% of his rides in the last fortnight. Looks a capable winner at a nice price.

Five year old who is largely consistent and whilst all three wins have come at Musselburgh, no reason he can’t get a win at Ayr sooner or later. Should handle this ground and is due to go up 2lb in the future so looks pretty well treated today. Trip is on the shorter side of usual distances but has ran well over this distance previously. This is a relatively weak race and Trojan Sun can play a major part under a positive Kaiya Fraser ride. Yard in good form and a good record at Ayr. Should go close.

Reason for Tip

Experienced eight year old who has been slowly falling down the weights and is now off a very dangerous mark. We saw a glimpse of that lto when running very smartly into fourth at Chelmsford despite a lot of trouble in running. Riot is now 9 below last winning mark and whilst his form at this course is varied, the majority of runs at this track were very hotly contested races much stronger than this one. The O’Meara’s won this race last year and Riot has a solid chance at winning it for them this year. Likes to come from off the pace and if David Nolan can get this boy nicely positioned at the break, off this mark there’s a chance he flies home.
