How To Find Real Value in Bet Builders

What Is a Bet Builder?

A bet builder lets you create a custom multiple from a single match. You can combine markets like BTTS, corners, cards, goalscorers, shots and more into one price.

It’s fun. It looks smart. But most punters are handing money to the bookies. Why? Because the odds rarely reflect real probability and the margin stacks fast.

Why Most Bet Builders Are Bad Value

Bookmakers don’t just price each leg with a margin. They compound it.

A three-leg builder might look like:

  • BTTS at 4/6

  • Over 8.5 corners at 5/6

  • Player A 1+ shot on target at 4/5

It looks solid. But when you multiply those probabilities and compare them to the builder odds offered, you’ll usually find the true odds are higher than the price they give you.

That’s how they win.

When can you actually find value?

Here’s where sharp punters get an edge and where tools like FPL’s Opta-powered research tools help.

1. When the stats say yes but the odds say no

Bookmakers use models but they don’t always price player props aggressively. If a player averages 2 or more shots on target per 90 and the bookies are offering even money for just one shot, that leg is likely underpriced. Especially if the opponent or game state suits the bet.

2. Card markets based on narrative, not reality

Most punters back cards based on rivalry or big-game feel. But Opta stats show the most carded players are usually full-backs or defensive midfielders in systems that press high.

If a player averages over a foul per game, faces a tricky winger, and the ref has a history of dishing cards, yet the price is 4/1 or higher, you’re often looking at a misprice.

3. GK saves, tackles, offsides and other overlooked edges

Bookies don’t price these as efficiently. If a team concedes lots of shots per game and the keeper is priced for just one or two saves, you may have value. The same applies for tackles and offsides where player-specific data can reveal a gap between expectation and price.

How to Calculate If a Bet Builder Has Value

Use this method:

  1. Convert each leg’s odds into implied probability
    Example: 4/5 = 1.80
    1 ÷ 1.80 = 55.56%

  2. Multiply the implied probabilities together
    Let’s say you have:

    • 55.56%

    • 57.14%

    • 60.00%
      0.5556 × 0.5714 × 0.60 = 0.1906 (19.06%)

  3. Convert that back to decimal odds
    1 ÷ 0.1906 = 5.24
If the builder is being offered at 6.0, you’ve got value
If it’s being offered at 4.5, you don’t

You can build a simple spreadsheet or use a free calculator online to speed this up.

Does Value Betting Work With Bet Builders?

Yes, but only if you treat them like trading, not entertainment.

Most punters build random combos and rely on hope. But there is real value in bet builders if you are data-led, understand where the markets are inefficient, and price-check properly.

It’s the same philosophy as normal value betting. The difference is you need to be even more precise and selective.

FAQs

What’s the best stat to look at in a builder?

Should I ever bet 5+ leg builders?

Do price boosts help?
Sometimes. But you still need to check if the boosted price is better than the true odds.

Can you make profit long-term from bet builders?
Yes, but only if you calculate EV and stay disciplined. Treat it like trading, not guessing.
