Interesting race here and one who looks set for a fine performance is May Angel from the Gosden yard. Although the form reads 51563, has continued to be progressive and some of the lower placed finishes were in much deeper Group 3s. Made seasonal return in a warm handicap at Newbury and wasn’t a long way third behind Colori Forever whos worse at the weights today. May Anfel likely to strip much fitter for the run last time and mark remains unchanged. Looks well treated and from a top yard in fine form with a world class jockey aboard in Buick. Acts in these conditions and looks a major player here.

Champonie is much more unexposed than almost this whole field and from what we’ve seen thus far stands a very good chance here. Won first two starts over 6f at Wolverhampton and Newcastle and makes turf debut today at the tricky Chester course. On pedigree should be suited by conditions today and has a good low draw which is a massive positive at Chester in the shorter races. Drop to 5f does have a question mark over it considering this youngster hasnt managed to start well yet. However, practice makes perfect and if handily away could be very tough to peg back. From a top yard who’ve already enjoyed success at this Chester festival so far as has Billy Loughnane who’s aboard. Could improve beyond the rivals today and looks a very likely winner.

Three year old Caraway has form of 7764 from first four starts and whilst not overly impressive from the bare results, has been improving and this is a very weak looking race. This 1m4f trip looks favourable and has a good draw from stall 3. From a major stable who are very much in form at the moment and solid booking in Fallon. Previously worn hood is now removed and this youngster is more than capable of having a say in this race. Likely to be going very close today and a win looks a likely outcome.

Bradbury was largely underwhelming in novices and has looked a bit better since handicapping with a fifth and then a fourth lto at Wolverhampton. Didn’t have the cleanest of runs lto and met plenty of trouble before finishing strongly and so the run was better than the bare form. Still open to progress and this drop in trip is arguably a positive on pedigree. From a shrewd yard and they seem to have found an ideal race for Bradbury here. Rodriguez is a good booking at this track, he has a very good record here and knows how to get the job done. Bradbury likely to make the most of a good draw and cleaner run today and has a good chance at grabbing the win.

Chester Cup time in the 3.05 and its an exciting looking renewal. This is a race where plenty of winners have come from outside the head of the market and with the bookies paying around 5 places, its ideal for our dark horse selection. Maxi King is a solid contender at a big price. Stall 8 would often not be ideal at Chester but as this is a longer race, the low draw stall bias thats so common at this course is null and the race history proves that with winners from all across the stalls. Maxi King is a reliable type and fits the bill for a Chester Cup which is nearly always won by an inform horse. Maxi King will stay the trip and enjoy the conditions and hes from a yard enjoying a decent time of things at the moment. The jockey booking is where it gets interesting, Toby Moore is booked and he rides at Chester for the first time today. Firstly his 7lb allowance is very valuable in this for Maxi King and hes the son of world class Ryan Moore who has a scintillating Chester record. Toby is a raw talent with similarities in style to his father and theres no doubt there will have been some words of advice from his old man. Would be a cracking story and Maxi King has a genuine chance at a nice price. Should go well.

Plenty of highly unexposed youngsters here but the form pick and one whos likely to step up and win today on second start is three year old Gone By from the Beckett yard. Ran a very decent debut in a warm race at Newbury last October and makes seasonal return today in ideal conditions. Likely to come on a great deal and had the scope and likeness of a horse that would thrive as a 3yo. From a yard who knows how to ready them so the break is no great concern and has a top jockey aboard in Rossa. Gone By has the plum draw, likely to be ridden prominently and is going to be a tough nut to crack for the rest of the field here. Yard might not be firing on all cylinders but they tend to start too around this time of year. Gone By looks set to win this and could do so handily if coming on like she should.
