Arsenal return to the Emirates with a slender advantage over Sporting CP after a dramatic 1-0 first-leg victory in Lisbon.

David Raya was outstanding in Portugal, keeping Sporting at bay before super-subs Gabriel Martinelli and Kai Havertz combined for a late winner. That goal could prove priceless, as Arsenal now require only a draw to reach back-to-back Champions League semi-finals for the first time in their history.

History is firmly on the Gunners’ side. They have progressed from 17 of their last 18 European ties after winning the first leg away from home, while they are unbeaten in their last eight home games against Portuguese opposition in Europe (W6 D2).

However, momentum is not entirely with Mikel Arteta’s men. A 2-1 weekend defeat to Bournemouth in the Premier League has reopened the domestic title race, and Arsenal have now lost three of their last four matches in all competitions.

Sporting arrive with belief despite the first-leg defeat. Rui Borges’s side tested Raya repeatedly and will take encouragement from Arsenal’s recent vulnerability. Weak looking race here in the 3.55 and one who looks set to take advantage of that is Catchim from the Pogson yard. Largely consistent type and returned to action after 3 months off with a decent third placed finish at Southwell last month. Should strip fitter for that and looks to be on a workable mark. Should appreciate both trip and ground today and has a top class jockey aboard in James Bowen and hes not a stranger to course success. Won’t take a great deal to win this and Catchim has a real chance of doing so.

No Panic had struggled to string together performances and was evidently not breathing as easily at Taunton two starts ago. Undergone a wind operation which has helped, evident in the returning run lto at Wincanton when fourth. Likely to come on for that run and after mark has dropped again following that is looking pretty well handicapped. From a yard with a good record here and stable jockey Lorcan Williams aboard is no negative. Steps up slightly in trip which is fine and looks set for a big run today.

Fair form in first three starts and nearly made a perfect handicap debut when second behind a big improver at Newcastle. Wasn’t disgraced lto when fifth, was from a terrible draw and never got the running of the race but remains very capable and another chance is given today from the plum draw in stall 1. Remains unexposed and open to further progress and this youngsters form is better than it reads on result. Good jockey aboard in Luke Morris who knows how to get the job done here at this track and Okiru looks likely to be heavily involved today.

Three poor efforts in first three starts. Was gelded prior to lto and whilst it helped a little, still below par but now goes handicapping off a basement initial mark and should be capable of being much more involved today. Steps up in trip to a mile today which on pedigree is a positive change. Well drawn today and this really isnt a warm race. Decent booking in Voikhansky and Lightening Hooves looks capable of being a big improver now handicapping. Decent chance.

Five year old Lord Chamberlain switched to obstacles from the flat and has been progressive since doing so. Culminated in a dominant win lto on handicap debut at Hereford and whilst the handicapper has put 7lb on for that win, still looks well treated on that handicap debut performance. Goes 2f further here which should be more of a positive than negative and the forecasted good ground is ideal. This isnt a tough race and talented apprentice Toby aboard for the run is a positive. Very likely winner and looks the one to beat.

RC Celta de Vigo have been notably stronger at Balaídos, picking up the majority of their points at home while averaging ~1.5 goals per game in that stretch. Their attacking play, particularly through central areas, has improved in recent weeks. SC Freiburg remain competitive but have shown inconsistency away from home, especially against technically strong sides. With home advantage and slightly better attacking momentum, Celta are a marginal but justified selection.
